Completing Double Head and Solving the Sindar Ruins in Suikoden 2 HD

As you dive into the worlds of Highland and Jowston in the HD Remaster of Suikoden II, you’ll come across various intriguing locations packed with fierce monsters. One of the spots that will likely capture players’ attention first is the Sindar Ruins, marking the game’s initial significant dungeon.

Navigating the Sindar Ruins can be tricky due to its intricate puzzles and the random assignment of your party members before you enter. This guide aims to help you get ready for your journey through the Sindar Ruins and offer tips for successfully making your way through.

    Preparation

Since the Sindar Ruins are the first major dungeon, you won’t need to do too much to gear up. However, it’s wise to fit out your party members since you might not have your preferred team.

To the southwest of Muse City lies Coronet Town, where you can replenish your supplies and visit a blacksmith who can enhance your weapons to level five.

Keep in mind that the team you have might not be your long-term lineup. It’s advisable to focus your upgrades on your main character and Jowy first.

Achieving a balanced team level can be challenging since you’re not choosing your companions for this part of the journey. Still, maintaining an average level of about 10 ensures that your lower-level characters gain valuable experience while your stronger team members provide support.

Make sure your party is equipped with proper defense gear and is organized in a suitable formation before entering the Sindar Ruins for your first major dungeon experience.

    The Sindar Ruins

The save point just before the end of the Sindar Ruins dungeon in Suikoden II HD Remaster.

To access the Sindar Ruins, navigate to the White Deer Inn area and take the northern path. When the story allows, Alex will open the ruins for you, granting access to the dungeon.

Inside the first room, simply interact with the small pedestal to the right of the door to proceed through the newly unlocked door.

This leads you to an outdoor passage that eventually splits. Follow the left path to uncover two chests: the left one containing three Mega Medicines, and the right one housing a Stone of Magic. After collecting those items, return to the fork and head down the alternate path. The southern route is a dead end, so continue heading north.

Go further north and cross the bridge on your right. Once across, head up to find a chest filled with Gauntlets. After securing that, descend and turn left toward the center river, moving north until you reach the next screen.

An area with six statues, one of which needs to be pushed, inside the Sindar Ruins in Suikoden II HD Remaster.

On the following screen, you’ll spot a closed door and a bridge. Cross the bridge and make your way to an area with six statues. One of the statues is next to a button, which you should push back onto it to open the nearby door.

Once inside the opened room, you’ll find two more statues and a treasure chest containing a pair of Shoulder Pads. Around the corner, there’s a Round Plate on a pedestal, which you can interact with to collect.

The door that can be opened using the Round Plate in Suikoden II HD Remaster.

Having collected the Round Plate, retrace your steps back to the bridge near the sealed door. You should find a round indent where you can place the Round Plate to open the sealed door.

A four-way fork in the road that acts as the center of the Sindar Ruins in Suikoden II HD Remaster.

Once you pass through the newly opened door, you’ll encounter a four-way intersection. Start by going left across the bridge, then upward to obtain the Triangle Plate, which will help you lower the water in the area. Continue further left to discover a chest containing a Fire Lizard Orb.

With the Triangle Plate now in your possession, return to the fork and head north, taking the first right. Follow this path until you reach the top of a long staircase where you can insert the Triangle Plate to halt the water flow.

A chest containing a Water Orb in the Sindar Ruins in Suikoden II HD Remaster.

Now that the water has drained, further exploration becomes possible. Head back to the previous screen, then continue north to enter the area that was once underwater. Go further north to find a treasure chest containing Chain Mail, then head to the main river and go south to access a previously unreachable chest with a Water Orb inside.

The pedestal which contains the Square Plate in the Sindar Ruins in Suikoden II HD Remaster.

From where you collected the Water Orb, move north and then take your first left to find the Square Plate. To use it, return to the original four-way fork and head right. Continue along this path until you reach a sealed door with a square indent suitable for inserting the Square Plate.

Opening this door reveals two chests: one holding a Magic Drain Orb, and the other containing an Old Book Vol. 2. These are the final significant finds in this dungeon before facing the boss.

Once you’ve gathered all the items in the dungeon, head back to the original fork, then proceed north and take your first left. Here, you’ll find a sealed door with a square indent, alongside a journeyman orb. Save with the orb, heal your party, then use the Square Plate to open the door leading to the boss of this area: Double Head.

    Boss Fight: Double Head

The party facing off against Double Head, the boss of the Sinder Ruins, in Suikoden II HD Remaster.

Your prize for pushing through this dungeon is a colossal two-headed snake known as Double Head. This battle shouldn’t pose much of a challenge if you’ve been engaging in regular encounters within the dungeon to bolster your team’s strength.

As with many fights so far, your key players will likely be your main character and Jowy, especially since they’ve recently acquired their signature runes.

Your main character can provide healing for the entire party if needed, while Jowy’s rune delivers high damage at this stage of the game.

While your team may differ from the recommended setup, it’s worthwhile to use any unite attacks available (aside from the main character and Jowy’s Buddy Attack, which is less effective here). Specifically, the unite attack between your main character and Nanami, known as Family Attack, can inflict substantial damage against the boss.

If you happen to have Zamza in your party for this battle, his Fire Dragon Rune can inflict serious damage on Double Head, usable infinitely at the cost of dealing minor self-damage. Thankfully, this can be countered using healing items or your main character’s healing rune.

Double Head’s attacks are not overly damaging, so as long as you maintain a steady damage output and keep your team healed, you should prevail without much trouble. Once you defeat the boss, continue forward to claim your reward, and then exit the dungeon to carry on with your adventure.

  • Completing Mukumuku and Solving Flying Squirrels in Suikoden II HD

Completing Mukumuku and Solving Flying Squirrels in Suikoden II HD

Finding all five flying squirrels in Suikoden 2 HD Remaster isn’t overly difficult, but it can be quite time-consuming. If you’re unsure where to look, it can feel a bit challenging. Each flying squirrel has a specific location in the game world, apart from the first one, which can be found in two different spots.

This simple guide will assist you in tracking down each of Suikoden 2’s flying squirrels. The first squirrel is a key character known as a Star of Destiny, while the others serve as valuable party members, and they’re undeniably adorable. Here’s how to bring Mukumuku and his friends into your team.

Where to Locate Each Flying Squirrel

    Mukumuku

The very first squirrel you can recruit is also the only Star of Destiny, meaning he counts towards the 108 Stars of Destiny you need to recruit for the best ending in Suikoden 2.

Keep in mind that “best” is subjective. This ending is definitely the happiest, but some players may prefer a darker narrative. However, it’s worth aiming for!

Your target here is Mukumuku, and you can find him quite early in the game. How early? Once you’re back in Kyaro Town, before meeting up with Nanami. Head to Genkaku’s Dojo and look for a distinctive tree to the north.

This tree is different from others and is not a part of any path guidance, making it easy to spot. Just in case, it’s featured in our main image for reference.

To attract Mukumuku, you need to examine the tree three times. This step is crucial; otherwise, Mukumuku won’t appear. After you’ve done this, Mukumuku will drop down and join your party at level 2, although he doesn’t have much to say about it.

If you miss this opportunity, travel the world map between the Greenhill settlement and the Greenhill/Muse Border with an open party slot, and Mukumuku will eventually show up.

    The Other Squirrels

The rest of the squirrels need to be recruited in a specific order, and you must acquire them after Mukumuku. To simplify things, bring Stallion with you during your search, as he increases your movement speed on the world map.

Here’s the order and where to find each one. Just remember to keep at least one open slot in your party for them to show up!

    1. Makumaku can be found randomly during battles on the path between Greenhill and Two River City.
    2. Once you have Makumaku, Mikumiku will appear randomly during battles on the path between Greenhill and Forest Village.
    3. After recruiting Mikumiku, Mekumeku will also appear randomly during battles on the path between Greenhill and the Forest Path to Matilda.
    4. For the last flying squirrel, Mokumoku, find Mekumeku first, then explore the forest area south of Forest Village.

If a flying squirrel takes too long to appear in battle, try entering a settlement, then returning to the world map to refresh the random number generator. While we didn’t face significant issues with this, it may help if you encounter delays!

  • What Transfers from Suikoden 1 to 2 in the HD Remaster?

What Transfers from Suikoden 1 to 2 in the HD Remaster?

The Suikoden series offers a fascinating feature that allows players to carry over save files from one game to another. This is a key aspect of the Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster. Some elements, like character names, transfer smoothly, while others are more complex.

One of the less straightforward features is how character levels and items are shared between games. While it is true that these aspects do make the jump, it’s not as simple as a direct one-for-one exchange. This guide will clarify how the data transfer operates and highlight the changes.

    Save Transfer Fundamentals

To successfully transfer your save from Suikoden 1 to 2, you need to have completed the first game. The primary advantage of this transfer is that it permits players to recruit McDohl in Suikoden 2, assuming you collected all 108 Stars of Destiny in the first installment. Additionally, players gain a unique recipe for the cooking battle mini-game. Even if you miss that goal, there are still various benefits to look forward to:

    • Your protagonist’s name and castle name will be preserved.
    • Returning characters will have adjusted levels.
    • The weapon levels of returning characters will also be modified.

There is a very limited selection of items that can be transferred, with one notable case being Humphrey, who can carry over the Windspun Armor if he has it equipped by the end of the game.

    Character Level Transfer

In the original Suikoden, successfully transferring your data meant a boost in levels for characters who were above level 60. This system appears to remain unchanged in the remaster. If you finish Suikoden 1 with a character above level 60, they will be a bit stronger when you recruit them in Suikoden 2. For every ten levels above level 60, these characters gain additional levels, though the specifics depend on the character.

However, this level gain for characters beyond 60 is somewhat trivial since reaching level 70 by the end of Suikoden 1 is unlikely. Most players will find their characters around the low 60s by the conclusion of the game unless they spend an excessive amount of time grinding.

Here’s an interesting note: Tai Ho’s level will now transfer in the HD Remaster, which wasn’t possible in the original Suikoden 2.

    Character 60+ Level Increase
    Clive 16 > 17
    Flik 20 > 22
    Futch 34 > 37
    Hix 27 > 29
    Humphrey 34 > 37
    Kasumi 38 > 41
    Lorelai 38 > 41
    Luc 27 > 29
    McDohl 38 > 41
    Meg 31 > 34
    Pesmerga 50 > 55
    Sheena 38 > 41
    Stallion 31 > 34
    Tai Ho 27 > 29
    Tengaar 27 > 29
    Valeria 38 > 41
    Viktor 20 > 22

    Weapon Level Transfer

Transferring weapon levels is much less complicated, as players can easily reach maximum weapon levels by the end of Suikoden 1. Recruiting Mace and using Chinchirorin will help you gather the necessary currency for upgrades. As with character levels, data transfers ensure characters start with better weapons.

Another note: Tai Ho’s weapon level will also transfer over in the HD Remaster.

    Character Lvl 12-13 Lvl 14-15 Lvl 16
    Clive 8 9 10
    Flik 8 9 10
    Futch 8 9 10
    Hix 6 7 8
    Humphrey 10 11 12
    Kasumi 8 9 10
    Lorelai 7 8 9
    Luc 5 6 7
    McDohl 12 13 14
    Meg 6 7 8
    Pesmerga 15 16 16
    Sheena 9 10 11
    Stallion 8 9 10
    Tai Ho 8 9 10
    Tengaar 9 10 11
    Valeria 7 8 9
    Viktor 7 8 9

    Armor Transfer

In the HD Remaster, McDohl will be able to carry over all the best late-game armor. However, if you haven’t collected the 108 Stars of Destiny, this may not be very beneficial. If you equip Humphrey with the Windspun Armor obtained in Greigminister, he can carry that over to Suikoden 2. While players might have hoped for a more extensive transfer of armor, it seems things have stayed the same.

  • Defeating General Sonya Shulen in Suikoden 1 HD Remaster

Defeating General Sonya Shulen in Suikoden 1 HD Remaster

Preparing for the Shasarazade Base in Suikoden 1 HD Remaster

The Shasarazade base is the second-to-last dungeon in Suikoden 1 HD Remaster. While it’s not an extensive dungeon, it features two formidable boss battles, which can catch unprepared players off guard.

Getting ready is crucial here. If you don’t come prepared, you might face a game over. Fortunately, we’ve got the tips to help you succeed.

Getting Ready for the Shasarazade Base

There are a couple of key points to keep in mind. First, you’ll encounter two bosses, and you won’t have the opportunity to rest between these battles. Therefore, stock up on Mega Medicine before diving into the action. Both bosses unleash a magic attack that affects the entire party, so consider assembling a team that can endure these magical onslaughts.

Including party members with Lightning or Thunder runes can be advantageous for the fight against the Venus Shell boss. Characters like Luc, Crowley, and Tengaar boast high MAG stats, which enhance their magic defense, making them solid choices for this dungeon. Moreover, any character equipped with a lightning rune can withstand attacks from the Venus Clam, while those with a water rune can handle Sonya’s magic assaults.

Tip: Equipping a Flowing Rune on a character with decent magical skills is a smart move, as it features a spell that can revive fallen teammates. You should have obtained this rune from the Qlon Temple Cavern.

    Exploring the Shasarazade Dungeon

The Shasarazade dungeon is rather short and straightforward. You’ll descend a staircase and find a Chaos Shield in a chest. Continue down the path, tackle another set of stairs, and you’ll reach a section containing a treasure chest with a Guard Ring and another with the Master’s Garb. All these items are easy to spot and not hidden away.

Note: The Master’s Garb is one of the best armor pieces available, so make sure to equip it on McDohl.

Proceed down another set of stairs, where you’ll encounter a fork in the path. Choose the western route to find more Mega Medicine in a chest. Backtrack and head down the southern path to reach the final room of the dungeon, which is guarded by a giant clam boss called the Venus Shell.

    Boss Fight: The Venus Shell

This boss battle is manageable, but treating it like a typical fight can lead to wasted resources and make the true challenge in the Shasarazade dungeon significantly harder. For this encounter, it’s best to hold back on using your most powerful spells. Instead, rely on unite attacks, skill runes, and regular attacks to whittle down the Venus Shell’s health.

The Venus Shell has two types of attacks: a single-target pearl shot and a lightning spell that hits all party members. Thus, loading up on Mega Medicine is essential. You need to inflict around 15,000 damage to defeat the Venus Shell, so select members capable of delivering strong unite attacks.

Some excellent candidates are Ronnie Bell and Pahn or Tai Ho and Yamkoo, who both have powerful unite attacks. While using these unite attacks may leave your characters momentarily unbalanced, this can work to your advantage since they can serve as healers during that time. Also, Tengaar and Hix make good choices as well, with their unite attack capabilities and Tengaar’s strong magic.

Bonus Tip: McDohl has an exceptional magic resistance, so you won’t need to prioritize healing him as much when dealing with magic attacks.

After defeating the Venus Shell, you’ll move on to the dam, where you can close it and collect a Thunder Rune from a chest. Then, backtrack through the Shasarazade dungeon before encountering General Sonya Shulen at the exit. This battle can be quite challenging, especially if the Venus Shell has used its lightning spell frequently, leaving your party drained.

Important Reminder: If you don’t step forward after defeating the Venus Shell, you can run back to heal before returning. This option can help you conserve resources for the upcoming fight with Sonya.

    Boss Fight: Sonya Shulen

Similar to the Venus Shell, Sonya has two types of attacks. One is a physical strike that deals significant damage to a single target, while the other is a water magic attack that affects the whole party. She is also quite adept at dodging and counter-attacking regular hits.

Therefore, avoid using regular attacks against her. Luckily, she only has about 8,000 HP, so powerful spells, especially McDohl’s Final Judgment, can deal heavy damage despite her resistance to many other magic types.

In this battle, focus on strikes using Runes and Unite Attacks. Refrain from using basic attacks; you want to maximize your chances of winning. If your resources are low going into the fight, you’ll want to rely on the hope that Sonya won’t frequently unleash her magic attacks. A party member equipped with a Flowing Rune, capable of healing, can also provide a buffer against her strong magic attacks.

  • All Unite Attacks in Suikoden 1 HD Remaster Explained

All Unite Attacks in Suikoden 1 HD Remaster Explained

One of the standout features in Suikoden 1 HD Remaster and throughout the series is the combination attacks referred to as "Unite" attacks. Similar to the concept found in Chrono Trigger, certain teammates can collaborate to unleash special moves that deal significant damage to enemies.

For the most part, these Unite attacks involve two characters, although some combinations allow for three characters to team up as well. Intriguingly, there is only one Unite attack that includes four characters in the game. This guide aims to provide all the details you need about these attacks in one place. Enjoy!

    Understanding Unite Attack Damage

To calculate the damage dealt by a Unite attack, simply add up the attack power of the participating characters and multiply it by the damage multiplier. It’s important to note that a critical hit will triple a character’s damage, so in cases where two characters regularly score critical hits, they might be better off attacking individually rather than performing a Unite attack. Additionally, it’s essential to remember that Rune Pieces do not affect Unite attacks in any way.

    Two-Character Unite Attacks

Most Unite attacks will deal double damage to a single opponent. There are exceptions where certain attacks prioritize damage over balance for a character. Notable Unite attacks include the Bandit Attack, which delivers higher damage without drawbacks, and the Master Pupil Attack, featuring McDohl, who is a consistent member of your party.

    Example of Two-Character Unite Attacks:

Unite Attack Name Character 1 Character 2 Number of Targets Damage Multiplier Additional Effects
Bandit Attack Varkas Sydonia 1 Enemy 2x Damage –
Beat ‘Em Up Attack Pahn Ronnie Bell 1 Enemy 3x Damage Pahn unbalanced
Bumpy Attack Krin Humphrey 1 Enemy 1.5x Damage –
Dragon Knight Attack Futch Milia 1 Enemy 1.5x Damage –
Master Pupil Attack McDohl Kai All Enemies 1x Damage –

    Three-Character Unite Attacks

The three-character Unite attacks offer a bit more variety, with many doing double damage to a single target. Among these, the Martial Arts Attack stands out as it inflicts massive damage across all enemies.

Unite Attack Name Character 1 Character 2 Character 3 Number of Targets Damage Multiplier Additional Effects
Elf Attack Kirkis Sylvina Stallion 1 Enemy 2x Damage –
Family Attack Eileen Lepant Sheena 1 Enemy 2x Damage –
Flash Attack Fukien Kai Liukan 1 Enemy 3x Damage Characters unbalanced
Martial Arts Attack Pahn Morgan Eikei All Enemies 2x Damage –

The Only Four-Character Unite Attack: The Blacksmith Attack

The Blacksmith Attack is unique as it’s the sole Unite attack involving four characters, specifically blacksmiths: Maas, Meese, Moose, or Mace. Unfortunately, you can’t use this attack as soon as you reach the Warriors’ Village to recruit Moose. Conditions for accessing it only emerge after you’ve defeated Neclord.

Attack Name Character 1 Character 2 Character 3 Character 4 Number of Targets Damage Multiplier
Blacksmith Attack Maas Meese Moose Mose 1 Enemy 3x Damage

Unite attacks add an exciting layer to battles in Suikoden 1 HD Remaster, allowing players to combine their might for impactful results.

  • Unlocking Fast Travel in Suikoden I & II HD Remaster Explained

Unlocking Fast Travel in Suikoden I & II HD Remaster Explained

In the Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remasters, you’ll be traveling from one place to another, hunting for new allies, collecting items to distribute, trading goods, and making a profit. It can be quite the hassle to do all that on foot. Luckily, there’s a special character named Viki, and she possesses the magic you’ll need.

Once you recruit this enigmatic character, you’ll gain the ability to teleport anywhere in the world. We’ll guide you on how to recruit her quickly in both Suikoden 1 and 2. Additionally, we’ll direct you to Hellion, another character essential for teleportation in the first Suikoden game.

How To Unlock Fast Travel In Suikoden 1

As mentioned earlier, to unlock fast travel in Suikoden 1, you’ll need to recruit two characters. Below, we’ll guide you through the locations to recruit both Viki and Hellion.

    Where To Recruit Viki

Viki appearing in the Suikoden 1 HD Remaster.

In both Suikoden 1 and 2, you’ll need to recruit Viki to enable teleportation. In Suikoden 1, you’ll find Viki when heading to the Great Forest. You can’t miss her; she shows up while you’re crossing a bridge. Keep in mind that Viki only allows you to teleport to other locations, not back to your castle. So even after recruiting her, you’ll only have part of the fast travel feature.

Where To Recruit Hellion And Acquire The Blinking Mirror

After you navigate through the elves and dwarves section and defeat General Kawanda, the world map’s region west of Castle Toran will be accessible. Once you cross the Fortress of Garen bridge, you can reach Teien. There, go to the inn and talk to the woman standing between two treasure chests, who is Hellion.

To recruit her, simply ask her to join. After she leaves for your castle, you can open both chests. The left chest contains medicine, while the one on the right has the Blinking Mirror. You can use this Mirror whenever to return to your castle on the world map.

How To Unlock Fast Travel In Suikoden 2

Running into Viki on the Path to Matilda in Suikoden 2

In Suikoden 2, unlocking fast travel is a bit more straightforward compared to the original game. Much like the first installment, Viki will join you as you progress. However, this time she’ll also give you the Blinking Mirror. Unfortunately, you’ll encounter her later in the game, specifically on the Path To Matilda after you’ve gone through Two Rivers and completed the events in Greenhill. So, you won’t have her on board until you’re well into the game.

Similar to the first game, Viki will appear right in front of you. All you need to do is agree to let her stay in your fortress. After she joins, she’ll give you the Blinking Mirror, and you’ll be all set!

  • Ultimate Guide to the Big Wheel in Suikoden 1 HD Remaster

Ultimate Guide to the Big Wheel in Suikoden 1 HD Remaster

Once you’ve set up your base, it’s time to recruit some soldiers. Lepant’s Mansion is one of the more unusual dungeons you’ll encounter in Suikoden 1 HD Remaster. While it’s relatively short, it features some challenging enemies and a bizarre trap that works like a mini-game.

This guide will outline the various treasures in Lepant’s mansion and explain the traps along with strategies for dealing with the formidable robot sentries found throughout the dungeon.

    Entering Lepant’s Mansion

Once you reach town, go to the large mansion. You’ll find out that you can’t meet Lepant. Instead, make your way to the inn where you’ll meet Kirin. He’ll share a plan for getting in touch with Lepant, which involves a bit of breaking and entering.

After climbing down from the roof, you’ll start by moving around the rafters. There’s a treasure chest up here containing shoulder pads. After descending the ladder and entering the main building, head into the room south of the one you just left (the one with the ladder). Talk to Roc, and he will join your army. The two chests next to him hold 700 Potch and some medicine.

Roc allows you to store any unused equipment and items at your castle.

Fighting the robot soldiers in Lepant's mansion in the Suikoden 1 HD Remaster.

In Lepant’s Mansion, you’ll face off against Robot Soldiers. These foes can be quite tough, especially the sword-wielding ones. To enhance your combat effectiveness, equipping the Lightning Rune Piece that you obtained on Mt. Seifu to your hero’s staff would be wise, as these enemies are vulnerable to lightning damage.

The path around the robot sentries in Lepant's mansion in the Suikoden 1 HD Remaster.

Proceed into the room on your right, where you’ll encounter several sentries. You must navigate around them without crossing their line of sight. If you accidentally break their focus, you’ll have to fight. The chest in the bottom right corner contains a counter orb. After leaving the sentry room, check the northeast room for a treasure chest that holds a SPD Rune Piece.

SPD Rune Pieces can be utilized to permanently boost the speed attribute of one character.

The four treasure chests in Lepant's Mansion in the Suikoden 1 HD Remaster.

Next, move south and descend the stairs. In this new area, you’ll find four treasure chests. The one in the easternmost room contains a Fire Rune Piece. To the left is a chest with leather armor, then medicine to the left of that, and finally a can of white paint in the leftmost room (this will be useful for recruiting a character later).

You’ll also come across a man named Juppo. Speaking with him will disable some traps, though he can’t handle the giant wheel in the next room.

You can actually recruit Juppo simply by talking to him. After this quest, he will be a part of your army.

    The Giant Wheel

The giant wheel in Lepant's mansion in the Suikoden 1 HD Remaster.

Upon entering the final room, you’ll see a massive wheel. Standing on the arrow at the bottom will set it spinning. There are five tile types you might land on…

    Monster Tile

You’ll face off against four robot soldiers.

    Treasure Tile

    This gives you some medicine.

    -10 EXP

This deducts 10 experience points from every party member.

    +10 EXP

This grants 10 experience points to each party member.

    ? Tiles

This could result in either a Dragon Incense or a Fortune Rune Piece.

You can also land on the exit, allowing you to proceed and obtain Lepant’s prized sword: Kirinji. The outcome of the wheel is entirely based on luck; you might land on the exit on your first spin or it could take several tries.

After the first time you land on the ‘? tile’, you will receive a Fortune Rune Piece every time you hit it afterward. This will permanently boost your luck stat, but only the most dedicated players should go after this.

    Rescuing Eileen

Confronting Kraze with Lepant in the Suikoden 1 HD Remaster.

After obtaining the sword, Lepant will confront you at the inn. However, he soon runs off to rescue his wife. Follow Lepant to the commander’s house. After helping him eliminate a few soldiers, he’ll join your party. In the room to the south, there’s a treasure chest that contains a Water Rune Piece.

Move forward, and you will encounter two rooms. The left room has an antique in a treasure chest, while the right room leads you to an old acquaintance: Kraze. This encounter doesn’t involve a boss fight; you simply need to deal with six soldiers, after which you ‘defeat’ him and recruit Lepant, Eileen, and Pahn.

You have the option to either execute Kraze or let him go. Your choice here does not affect anything else in the game.

  • Unlocking Treasure Chests at Toran Lake Castle in Suikoden 1 HD

Unlocking Treasure Chests at Toran Lake Castle in Suikoden 1 HD

The Toran Lake area in Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remasters is one of the trickiest dungeons you’ll face. Being one of the first dungeons, your party is set, and you’ll have limited choices regarding weapons and gear.

Adding to the challenge, the boss can quickly deplete your whole party’s health if you’re not vigilant. However, if you dare to conquer this dungeon, you’ll be rewarded with some exciting treasures along the way. This guide will help you collect all the loot and detail the boss battle for you.

    Getting to Toran Castle

After you pass through Kwaba while seeking a new base, head to Kaku, located southwest of Seika. Once in Kaku, go to the building marked with the sign featuring a wine bottle and glass. Speak with the red-haired woman named Camille, and she will join your team.

To recruit Tai Ho, you’ll need to go into the basement, but first, save your game at the Inn. After that, return to the bar, enter the basement, and try your hand at gambling with Tai Ho. Since this game relies on chance, don’t hesitate to reload from your save if luck isn’t on your side.

You will then be taken to Toran Castle, where Tai Ho will officially join your party. However, both he and Camille come with subpar equipment—Tai Ho has a level 3 weapon and Camille has a level 4 weapon. So, hop back in the boat and return to Kaku to enhance their gear. Make sure you stock up on better armor and sharpen their weapons. Also, each party member should carry their own supply of medicine for the upcoming boss fight, so buy extra if needed.

Don’t forget to equip as many party members as you can with Guard Robes from the Kaku armor shop, place the Clone Orb on Viktor, and the Fire Rune on Cleo.

    Exploring the Toran Lake Dungeon

Once you complete this dungeon, any treasure chests you missed will be inaccessible, so be sure to loot everything the first time through.

Before entering the castle, make sure to grab the Mega Medicine from the chest located south of the entrance. In the southern area of the first room, you’ll find Toe Shoes in another chest. Stick close to the south edge of the pool of water to access it.

In the second room, there are two chests: the one to the north contains antitoxin, while the southern chest holds 2,000 Potch. Next, head up the stairs to a small hallway and into another room with three chests. The southwest chest contains a STR Rune Piece, the northern chest has a Pointy Hat, and the southeastern chest has medicine.

At the top floor, you’ll have a chance to save your game. There’s also an antitoxin in a chest nearby. Proceed through the hallway, ascend the stairs, then turn right to enter a room with two chests that may look unreachable—don’t be deceived.

To access the chest in the southwest corner, move into the segment of the wall above and below the chest. Follow the path—go down, then left, down again, right, up, right, down, and finally left. You’ll emerge on the right side of the clearing to claim the Fuzzy Rune.

The Fuzzy Rune significantly enhances the wearer’s evasion, making it ideal for a character like Gremio who isn’t magical.

To get to the northeast chest, just walk through the wall; it contains a Wind Orb. Exit this room through the southeastern door to enter the castle itself. Follow the stairs down, but don’t forget to heal up—you’ll encounter a boss on the ground floor.

It’s also wise to distribute items effectively. Ensure each member has medicine on hand. If you gave Viktor the Clone Orb, equipping him with two sets of medicine can be quite beneficial, as he can heal when unbalanced.

    Boss: Zombie Dragon

This boss can be both straightforward and potentially brutal. The Zombie Dragon has two main attacks: a lunging strike that targets a single character and a fiery breath that hits the entire team. Which attack comes next seems random. Equipping Guard Robes will minimize damage from the fire attack by boosting your magic defense.

The key strategy here is to heal often. If a character’s health drops below half, have them heal immediately. If the fire breath assaults your team consistently, this encounter can become extremely tough, especially if you’re running low on healing items. Hopefully, you’ve equipped Cleo with the Fire Rune and Viktor with the Clone Rune.

If you didn’t enhance your weapons, are poorly equipped, and find yourself out of medicine, you can always retreat to the entrance, chat with Yam Koo, and head back to Kaku to gear up. It will save time compared to grinding aimlessly against the Dragon. Remember, while the Zombie Dragon seems simple, it becomes a nightmare with a lack of preparation.
