I’ve lost track of how many times I had to pause a game, open a browser tab, and watch tutorial videos just to get past a tough level. It turns out I’m not alone—many others face the same challenge. Soon, Google’s Gemini AI will provide real-time assistance during gameplay, offering guidance right when you need it most.
What’s the major update?
Google is introducing a new feature called Sidekick, which is basically a gaming-enhanced version of Gemini. When you start a game, the AI kicks into action. As you progress, you can ask it for winning strategies, tips on escaping tricky spots, and other instant advice.

According to Google, “Sidekick leverages Gemini Live’s screen-sharing features to understand your game situation and deliver AI-powered, in-game guidance through voice tips, tricks, and support during your play sessions.”
This approach aims to provide all necessary help in real-time, eliminating the need for watching lengthy walkthroughs or switching between multiple apps. The feature will begin rolling out to a limited number of users across select games in the coming months.
Additional improvements for Google Play
Beyond gameplay assistance with Gemini, Google is launching a new overlay called Play Games Sidekick. Accessible by swiping from the right edge of your screen, it offers quick access to the AI coach and notifications about your game progress.

Google is also updating user profiles on the platform, making it easier for players to track their stats, monitor achievements across various games, and quickly create new avatars with AI help.
Furthermore, a new Play Games Leagues system is emerging, allowing players to challenge friends and earn Google Play points. The first event, focused on Subway Surfers, runs from October 10 to 23, giving players a fresh way to compete and connect within the gaming community.
