  • Samsung Launches One UI 7 Beta For Foldables And Stable Release Soon

Samsung Launches One UI 7 Beta For Foldables And Stable Release Soon

Samsung launched its beta test program for One UI 7, based on Android 15, back in December. Until now, it has only been available on a select number of devices, and a final release date seemed elusive. However, today’s announcement has changed that situation.

The company has revealed that the stable version of One UI 7 is set to launch in April. Additionally, starting tomorrow, more devices will be welcomed into the beta testing phase for users located in India, South Korea, the UK, and the US.

Initially, testing began exclusively with the Galaxy S24 series, and since then, several incremental software builds have been released. Now, Samsung is finally bringing its latest foldable devices—the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6—into the testing lineup.

Furthermore, the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Tab S10 tablets, and the Galaxy A55 will also join the One UI 7 beta testing program within the next month.

One UI 7 serves as Samsung’s platform for integrating its Galaxy AI features into smartphones. It introduces various new capabilities, such as Writing Assist, which is akin to Apple’s Writing Tools. This feature operates at a system level, facilitating text summarization, format changes, proofreading, and more.

Another exciting addition is the call transcript feature that automatically records and transcribes conversations. The Now Bar provides a quick glance at relevant activities like music playback and recording, available directly from the Lock Screen.

Samsung has also revamped the Home Screen, enhanced the Lock Screen experience, and updated widgets and the camera application’s interface. A new zoom speed control feature for the Pro mode in the camera app ensures smoother transitions when zooming.

A newly designed security dashboard allows users to monitor the safety status of their connected devices, offering actionable tips and relevant alerts. Additionally, when the device is locked, USB access is blocked, and unknown locations can trigger a biometric lock.

In terms of device compatibility, Galaxy S21 and newer models will receive the update, including foldable phones dating back to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. A selection of devices from the Galaxy-A, Galaxy-M, and Galaxy-F series will also be included in the upgrade schedule.

  • No Major Upgrades Expected for Samsung’s Next Foldables

No Major Upgrades Expected for Samsung’s Next Foldables

It appears that Samsung is taking its time in reevaluating its approach to foldable devices. This, however, means allowing rival Chinese brands to take the lead in innovative developments.

An interview with one of Samsung’s manufacturing partners has indicated that the upcoming line of foldable smartphones from the company may not feature significant upgrades. Enthusiasts might have to hold off until the 2026 model to witness any major enhancements.

According to a representative from China’s FastPrint speaking with the Korean news source The Elec, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 series is unlikely to see meaningful improvements, with important updates likely being saved for the 2026 Galaxy Z Fold 8 series. FastPrint has a solid background in the smartphone sector, which adds weight to this information.

This company recently provided the vital HDI (High-Density Interconnector) for the sleek Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. This model is thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6 but boasts a larger display and upgrades its camera system to a 200-megapixel sensor.

FastPrint has also received Samsung’s approval to deliver the same component for the forthcoming Galaxy S25 series smartphones. While this recent information from Samsung’s partner is not entirely unexpected, it’s worth noting that plans at the Korean tech giant could evolve in the future.

“If we focus solely on the foldable phone format from Samsung Electronics, we can expect noticeable changes starting with the Z8 series scheduled for release in 2026, in contrast to the Galaxy Z7 series next year,” stated the FastPrint executive.

The spokesperson also mentioned that Samsung aims to tackle competition from Chinese foldable phones, as well as prepare for Apple’s eventual entry into this market. Despite these ambitions, the internal momentum for innovation appears to have slowed.

Fold 7 should have the same display sizes as Fold 6 SE. So, Fold 6 SE will basically become the Fold 7.
Flip 7 should grow from 6.7” to 6.85” and cover display should be around 4”.

Supply chain analyst Ross Young recently shared insights on X, indicating that the design of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition will influence the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7. However, the overall aesthetics and camera technology are expected to remain largely unchanged without significant advancements.

In contrast, competitors like Honor, Vivo, and Xiaomi have consistently pushed the boundaries of foldable phone technology, offering slimmer designs and more impressive camera setups.

It will be fascinating to see how Samsung remains competitive in this rapidly evolving landscape, especially while commanding a premium price for foldable devices that no longer stand out as the best options in the market. Unfortunately, I am skeptical about any swift revitalization on Samsung’s part.

  • Apple Foldable iPad To Be Launched in 2024, According To Experts

According to analysts at CCS Insight, Apple intends to enter the foldable market with a foldable iPad in 2024 before creating a foldable iPhone.

Analysts predict that Apple will adopt foldable technology on its iPhone in 2024 after testing it on an iPad in 2024‌. During an interview with CNBC, Ben Wood, chief of research at CCS Insight, explained that it “doesn’t make sense” for Apple to produce a foldable iPhone at this time. It is likely that they will stay away from that trend and instead dip a toe into the water with a foldable iPad,” he concluded.

According to reliable display analyst Ross Young, Apple is testing a foldable iPad display that is approximately 20 inches in size. The device is expected to be available in 2026 or 2027. Companies like Samsung have released multiple versions of foldable devices over the past few years, demonstrating the growing popularity of foldable devices.

The company is reportedly working with LG to create an ultra-thin cover glass for its foldable products. Uncertainty persists regarding the precise form factor of a foldable iPad, including whether it would be a hybrid between an iPhone and an iPad.

Foldable iPads Are Expected Before Foldable iPhones

According to CCS Insight’s latest report, Apple is more likely to launch a foldable iPad in two years than a foldable iPhone in the near future.

The company’s move contrasts with that of other smartphone manufacturers, such as Samsung, which has launched foldable smartphones rather than tablets.

    Cost

A foldable iPhone is likely to cost around $2,500, according to the analyst. The most expensive iPhone 14 Pro Max model, which has the largest storage capacity, costs approximately $1,599.

According to Wood, if Apple has any technical difficulties with the foldable phone, critics will attack Apple as a result.

The company, however, has “no choice but to react since the trend toward foldable devices is gaining traction,” Wood said, and has decided to begin with an iPad.

For displays with a size of approximately 20 inches, Apple is exploring the use of foldable technology. According to the company, this could be related to a new foldable notebook product.
