    How to Unlock Fishing

    You can unlock fishing by making a Simple Fishing Rod. This becomes available after you find the Foothills biome, where new resources like Hardwood and Iron are found. To craft the rod, you’ll need 5 Hardwood, 3 Rope, and 2 Iron Ingots at a level 2 workbench. Once you build the rod, head to a body of water, cast your line, and start fishing.

    Fishing in Windrose is straightforward—there’s no mini-game. Simply click to cast your line, then click again when you hear the splash to reel in a fish.

    When you catch a fish, right-click it in your inventory to turn it into a fillet. This fish fillet can be cooked over a fire to make meals that improve your stats and health.

    Catching fish can also earn you the Fisherman Ring. After catching one fish or finding ten in chests, you unlock this ring. Wearing it gives you a fishing bonus, increasing your chance to catch more fish by 15%. Upgrading the ring boosts this bonus to 30%.

    There are currently 10 fish available in Windrose, though more may be added later.

    Here’s a quick tip: keep enough space in your inventory. Large or epic fish take up a whole slot, while common ones can stack up to 10.

    What Is The Claw?

    It automates the final step of catching fish—reeling them in.

    Reeling in fish can be frustrating if you fail after all the effort, so this rod acts as a helpful safety net. It makes fishing much more efficient and more successful than doing everything manually.

    How to Find & Get The Claw Fishing Rod

    There are two main trustworthy ways to get The Claw:

    1. From Patrigo, a hidden merchant.
    2. From a specific fisherman west of the Steel Mountains.

    If you want to find Patrigo, you need to progress to Chapter 3 and unlock The Greymane Camp on Howling Hill. Patrigo roams around and usually appears at your camp between 10 PM and 7 AM. However, he does not sell The Claw directly. You must first raise his trust level to 100.

    To do this, give him 20 small copper pouches. Once his trust reaches 100, he will reward you with The Claw.

    The second, more reliable way is traveling south of Hernand to a fishing village just west of the Steel Mountains.

    Important: You will need a mask for this. Masks can be looted from Bleed Bandits or bought from Grimrak at the Back Alley Shop near the church in Hernand.
    Enter the village and follow the coastline along the rocky cliffs. Eventually, you’ll find a small inlet in the wall of the cliffs, with a waterfall and a small pier where two or three people are fishing.

    Near the village, the fisher on the pier will hold The Claw. You can get him to drop it by scaring him with your own fishing rod.

    How to scare the fisherman and steal The Claw

    First, put on your mask, then cast your fishing line near where he stands. You may need to try a few times. Casting closer to him increases the chances he’ll get scared and drop his rod.

    When he’s frightened, he’ll drop The Claw for a few seconds, giving you a window to steal it. Hold LB/L1 (or CTRL), then choose the option to steal The Claw from the ground. After grabbing it, swim away quickly to avoid paying a fine or bounty.

    Note: Sometimes, the fisherman might drop his rod into the water, making it hard to pick up. If this happens repeatedly, walk into him and push him further onto the pier and away from the water. Eventually, he’ll drop it on the pier, and you’ll be able to pick it up.

    Once you have The Claw, you’ll enjoy a much more efficient fishing experience than before.

    ### Where to Find Every Fishing Spot

    With Rod in hand, the game opens up with eight different fishing spots across the three main areas.

    #### Circuit Arcadia

    This area has only two fishing spots—the fewest among the three maps:
    – One on the far west side of the map, southwest of the Movie Theatre fast travel point.
    – The other on the far east side, northeast of the Circuit Arcadia Mall, right next to the fast travel point.

    #### Circuit Arcadia Zoo

    The zoo features three fishing spots, two of which are very close:
    – One in the upper central part of the map, near a Wanted Poster.
    – A second in the southeastern corner, close to a large aquarium.
    – The third, also in the southeastern corner, near a skating area.

    #### Pinkline Harbor

    Pinkline Harbor has three fishing spots mainly along the northern coast:
    – One on the eastern island within the cluster at the top of the map.
    – A second along the western side of the pier—head toward the buildings jutting out to find it.
    – The third near the fisherman’s boat on the beach.

    Make sure to catch each unique fish at every location before moving on to unlock achievements with less effort. This way, you can earn the “Tanks For The Memories” trophy by catching all the different fish from each spot.

    What You Need To Fish

    Instead of a fishing rod, Hytale uses Fishing Traps to catch fish.

    To craft a Fishing Trap, you first need a Farmer’s Workbench. Oddly, even though fishing isn’t really a farmer’s task, you build the workbench from a regular one using:

    • 6 logs of any type of tree
    • 20 plant fibers

    Once you have the Farmer’s Workbench, you must upgrade it to Tier 2 to craft the Fishing Trap. Upgrading requires:

    • 50 Essence of Life
    • 5 Wheat
    • 5 Lettuce
    • 5 softwood logs (like Beech, Aspen, or Banyan)

    Building a Fishing Trap

    After upgrading your Farmer’s Workbench, you can make a Fishing Trap with these materials:

    • 10 pieces of any wood
    • 50 Essence of Life
    • 20 plant fibers
    • 1 iron ingot

    Making Fish Bait

    Another tool to help catch fish is fish bait, which you can craft at the Tier 2 Farmer’s Workbench. To make bait, need:

    • 3 pieces of any fruit
    • 5 Essence of Life

    How To Catch a Fish

    With your Fishing Trap and bait ready, follow these steps:

    1. Find a pond or ocean nearby.
    2. Place the trap on top of the water by right-clicking.
    3. Hold the bait in your hand and right-click the trap to insert it.
    4. Wait for the trap to catch a fish. Using bait speeds up this process.
    5. When a fish is caught, walk up to the trap and press ‘F’ to harvest it, retrieving the fish.

    Using the Fish

    To utilize your catch, you’ll need a Chef’s Stove. You can craft one at the Workbench using:

    • 2 copper ingots
    • 10 logs of any tree
    • 5 stones

    Once you have the stove and fish, you can cook your fish into Raw Fish:

    • Place the Raw Fish on the stove to cook.
    • The number of Raw Fish produced depends on the fish’s rarity:

    Every day, there’s a chance the fish will produce an item, which gets stored in the bin located at the bottom right of the pond. Some ponds produce items regularly, while others do not. You can have between one and three fish in each pond initially. Over time, the fish will multiply, but there’s a cap on how many fish each pond can hold. You can increase this limit by completing specific quests for the fish.

    In total, you can have up to ten fish per pond. Some fish will produce more goods if multiple are kept together, so keep an eye on your pond’s residents.

    Most fish that generate roe (fish eggs) can be placed in a pond to make products like aged roe, which sells for twice the raw roe price. The value of unprocessed roe depends on the fish, calculated as half the fish’s base price plus 30. For example, if a fish has a base price of 30g, its roe will sell for 45g unaged, and once aged, it can fetch 90g. Certain legendary fish cannot be placed in ponds and won’t produce roe. Fish like squid, midnight squid, and coral are also incompatible with roe production.

    Building a Fish Pond costs 5,000 gold, five stones, five seaweed, and five green algae. Speak with Robin to start construction, which takes two days. Once finished, you can begin stocking it.

    Best Fish for Fish Ponds in Pelican Town:

    • Blobfish: Only available at Night Market on the submarine. Base price of 500g, with roe and pearls being valuable byproducts. Pearls sell for 2,500g and are popular gifts. Raising a blobfish can also give you pearls, which are rare and lucrative.

    • Super Cucumber: Found in ocean waters early in summer. Produces roe, and at larger populations, has a 5% chance to produce iridium ore. Base price of 434g.

    • Rainbow Trout: Common fish found in rivers, lakes, and on Trout Derby days at Cindersap Lake. Sells for a modest amount, but can produce rainbow shells and prismatic shards. Roe sells around 62g.

    • Spook Fish: Caught at the Night Market in winter. While their roe isn’t valuable, they have a chance to produce treasure chests that sell for 5,000g. A pond filled with nine or more spook fish gives a small chance to find a treasure chest.

    • Squid: Found at the ocean during winter and special events like Squidfest. Their roe isn’t valuable, but they can produce rare items in the pond, and they are abundant on Ginger Island all year round. They spawn at the ocean from 6pm to 2am and in various locations.

    • Octopus: Found mainly on Ginger Island or during specific times at the ocean or Night Market. They only appear in the mines Level 60 or below. An octopus pond can be very profitable, especially if it produces caviar, which is used to complete bundles and sells for 500g or 700g if processed as artisan goods.

    Other notable fish:

    • Lava Eel: Found at Level 100 of the mines. Produces valuable roe, especially with the Artisan profession, which sells for over 1,000g.

    • Ice Pip: Found in the mines at Level 60. Produces roe, iron ore, and frozen geodes, and sells well once aged.

    • Sturgeon: Only in the mountain lake, produces caviar used in bundles and recipes, selling for hundreds of gold.

    • Blue Discus: Available on Ginger Island, in waters that are accessible after completing the main game. They are easy to maintain and offer rewards like treasure and resources, and are found in many bodies of water around the island.

    Using multiple ponds filled with a variety of these fish, especially sturgeon for caviar and blobfish for pearls, can turn your farm into a lucrative caviar empire.

    You can:

Talking to her will invite you to join the angler club, which gives you a free fishing pole, bait, and a fishing guide with helpful tips.
    • Or, simply go to a fishing spot on the map and start fishing right away. If you have no gear, you’ll be directed to the in-game Fishing Store to buy what you need. You can buy new fishing poles here as you rank up your Fishing skill, with prices in Luno (Bound). It’s useful to know where to restock gear.

    Even if you buy a fishing pole, visiting the Guild Member is recommended because it starts the “Invitation from the Fishing Guild” quest. This quest involves catching an Astercad at the yacht harbor fishing spot. Completing it rewards you with different bait, experience points, and some Luno (Bound).

    How to Fish

    Fishing is straightforward in Blue Protocol: Star Resonance. Find a glowing white dot marked as a fishing spot near water—often on docks, beaches, or spots marked with fish icons on your map.

    Equip your fishing pole and bait, then cast your line into the water. Watch for your bobber to waver, indicating a bite. After a few bobs, an exclamation point will appear—click the reel-in button.

    The minigame is divided into three parts. Be attentive to the position of the fish and your bobber. You need to keep the line tight without letting it slack, or the fish could escape. Once the fish enters the same zone as your pole, hold down the reel-in button to pull it closer, moving the fish icon left on the progress bar. When it’s fully to the left, you’ve successfully caught your fish.

    What to Do with Your Fish

    The fish you catch can be used in many ways. You can sell them for Luno or use them to progress in certain life skills. Catching fish is beneficial for earning Fishing Milestone Rewards, so check in each time you level up to claim prizes.

    Boosting Your Skills

    Fishing also helps develop other skills:

    • Alchemy: Catching scallops is good for gathering materials like Chitin Fiber, useful for crafting at your homestead. You can buy scallops, but catching them yourself is cheaper and raises your fishing level.
    • Botany: With enough practice, you’ll catch rarer fish without needing Focus at higher levels. Raw Fish Meat from Pale Blue Fish and Tris Sea Fish can be used for cooking recipes that give powerful combat boosts.
    • Cooking: Many recipes require fish or scallops. Catching your ingredients is a cost-effective way to level up cooking while getting better gear and boosts.

    Selling Your Catch

    If you have more fish than you can use or want to earn some extra Luno, there are options:

    • Sell your ingredients like Raw Fish Meat or Scallops to other players via the Trading Center.
    • Use your fish for Guild Cargo if available—loading them into the Guild Freight can earn you rewards.
    • Return ocean garbage to the Ocean Garbage Recycler in Asterleeds. Contributing trash can earn you Luno (Bound).

    Fishing Abilities

    As you catch fish, you gain experience points towards your Fishing Rank. Reaching certain ranks grants Fishing Ability Points, which can be spent to unlock passive upgrades that improve your fishing success rate over time. These upgrades include:

    • Reducing the chance of bait being consumed if you fail.

    The key to fishing is to keep the circle (your cursor or joystick) in the “sweet spot” — the center of the blue arc. Hold the input while reeling in the fish. Watch the color of the circle; if it turns red, stop reeling and relax the line for a moment before continuing. If the tension gets too high, the line will break, so be careful.

    Where To Find New Fish

    New fish can be found all over Bywater. The best way to find out where is to open your journal and go to the encyclopedia. Select the fish tab to see all 31 types of fish and get tips on what seasons and weather conditions they appear in.

The number of each fish you catch is tracked at the top of the entries, along with your biggest catch so far. Nevertheless, you can still capture one live tuna, a larger fish, or a ray up to twice daily.

    Where to Find Tuna

    The Blue Hole is always changing, but certain locations remain consistent for finding larger fish like tuna. You’ll usually spot them near the surface of the water, at depths between 0 and 50 meters. Look for them in the middle to right parts of the Blue Hole. Dive in and swim towards the right to start your search.

    Keep an ear out—you can often hear the fast-swimming tuna as you approach. These fish tend to swim in fast, straight lines and might even bump into you, causing injury if you’re in their path.

    Methods for Catching Tuna

    Using Steel Net Traps

    As demonstrated in the tutorial, Steel Net Traps are effective for capturing one or two tuna at a time. Once purchased, you usually get two traps to use, allowing you to catch up to four tuna in a single dive, which is a great haul, especially once you’ve set up the Fish Farm.

    However, do note that these traps can only be utilized for the dive you acquired them for, meaning if you buy them for a morning session, they won’t carry over to your next dive.

    Killing Tuna

    Sometimes, you might find yourself running out of traps and needing to rely on killing a tuna as it swims by to collect its meat. You can use any damaging weapon you have, but be prepared for the possibility of needing several shots to bring the fish down. Make sure to position yourself wisely to avoid damage from the tuna’s swift movements.

    Alternatively, you can use bombs found in the Blue Hole or buy them from Cobra. Trigger Bomb Traps can be found in supply crates and cost ten gold each if you purchase them. Another option is the Sensor Bomb Trap, which will explode upon fish contact, damaging the tuna.

    If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also try slashing or hitting the tuna with your melee weapon, but do so with caution, as they can quickly retaliate.

    How to Obtain Every Rod That Requires a Quest

    Three fishing rods in Fisch are obtained through specific quests. The Haunted Rod is available only during the Fisch Halloween 2024 event, while the Magma Rod and Fungal Rod can be acquired at any time.

    How to Get the Magma Rod

    Travel to Roslit Bay and head to the volcano entrance. Instead of entering, take the path to the right, which leads you around the volcano. Drop down to a ledge where you’ll find a green character beside a gray tent; this is the Orc.

    The Orc will ask you to bring him a Pufferfish, which you can catch near Roslit Bay during the summer months. You will need Seaweed as bait, which can be easily found in Bait Crates sold by the Scoreboards on Moosewood.

    Once you fish up a Pufferfish, return it to the Orc, and he’ll reward you with the Magma Rod. This rod allows you to fish in lava, perfect for utilizing the volcanic areas you’ve seen.

    How to Get the Fungal Rod

    For the Fungal Rod, head over to Mushgrove Swamp. You’ll find Agaric beneath a red-capped mushroom in the center. Agaric will ask you to catch an Alligator, which can be found in the lake directly behind him. Note that Alligators only spawn at night in foggy or rainy conditions.

    To manipulate the weather, you can use a Tempest Totem for rain and a Sundial Totem for changing day to night. Once you’ve caught an Alligator, bring it back to Agaric for your reward: the Fungal Rod, which increases your luck by 70% after each catch.

    How to Get the Haunted Rod

    The Haunted Rod was introduced with the 2024 Halloween event featuring Beatrix the Witch. To obtain this rod, players must help Beatrix retrieve her stolen ingredients. Return the ingredients to her cauldron (the one she is stirring) to earn various rewards, including the Haunted Rod.

    To find the ingredients, pay attention to notifications that appear every 15 to 20 minutes indicating which island they can be found on. The best locations to search are mostly Moosewood and Roslit Bay. Once you gather all five ingredients, return to Beatrix to complete the quest.

    For newcomers, the Carbon Rod is the best choice. Priced at just 2,000C$, it boosts your luck for your next catch by 25%. While it might seem costly, you can easily earn that amount by fishing.
