All Poachable Items in FFT: The Ivalice Chronicles – Completing & Solving

While mastering combat and job skills are crucial in Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, some of the most valuable items aren’t dropped by enemies—these rare treasures are hidden in the wild monsters of Ivalice. Poaching is a special ability that some squires can learn, allowing you to collect these secret items.

This skill can help you acquire powerful gear, rare materials, and legendary weapons, which are essential for improving your team and gaining an advantage. Mastering poaching involves understanding the process and knowing what loot is available.

Updated on February 3, 2026, this guide now includes a reliable way to ensure you only get rare items when poaching targets.

    How to Poach

Poaching is simple but important. Here’s how it works:

    1. Pick up the Poach Support ability from the Thief job and equip it to your chosen Poacher.
    2. When a unit with Poach lands the killing hit on a monster, you’ll automatically collect that monster’s carcass. The monster can’t be revived afterward.
    3. The carcass can be either common or rare, with rare ones marked by a small icon.

Should You Poach Wild or Bred Monsters?

You have two main sources for monsters:

    • Wild Monsters: These are enemies you fight during random or story battles. Poaching them is quick and effective for immediate rewards.
    • Bred Monsters: These are monsters you raise by breeding them through the Orator job. Although it takes more time, this method allows you to farm specific, strong monsters repeatedly.

    How to Guarantee Rare Poaches

To increase your chances of getting rare items, it’s best to bring bred monsters into battles and poach them yourself. This method offers complete control over your targets, and you can attempt to get rare drops without hunting for new monsters in the wild.

Once you’ve bred your target monster, deploy it in an easy battle, such as on Mandalia Plains, along with a unit equipped with Poach. Your goal is to kill your own monster quickly—preferably on the first turn—to avoid interference from other enemies.

    Pro Tips:

    • Ninja characters are excellent for poaching thanks to their high Speed and Dual Wield, allowing for large damage output.
    • Dragoons with strong spears can often take down monsters from two spaces away, avoiding counters.
    • Monks and Knights who have been your main damage sources throughout the game also work well.

Rare drops have about a 12.5% chance to be obtained. When poaching, check the text box for a ✨ icon—this indicates you’ve secured the rare carcass. If a common item drops instead, don’t end the battle. The game autosaves each turn, so you can reload that save and retry. Adjust your actions slightly—such as moving to a different tile or attacking from another angle—and try again to increase your chances of success without restarting the entire battle.

    All Poachable Items

Some items can’t be purchased at Outfitters and are only obtainable through poaching, making them vital for the Rare Wares achievement. Below is a list of every poachable item and the monsters they come from, with each monster having a common and a rare drop. The chance of getting the rare item is approximately ten percent.

Tip: For easy rare drops, especially when trying on monsters you breed yourself, you can reload from autosaves if you don’t get the desired result.

  • Top Unique Characters in FFT: The Ivalice Chronicles, Completing & Solving

Top Unique Characters in FFT: The Ivalice Chronicles, Completing & Solving

The vast and detailed world of Ivalice has fascinated turn-based RPG fans for years. The reason why this game remains popular is largely because of its diverse cast of characters. While common soldiers and mages lay the groundwork, it’s the special characters—like Ramza, Agrias, Orlandeau, and others—who have game-changing abilities that truly stand out and define the experience.

This ranking ranks every unique character based on how powerful they are, how useful their special Job commands are, and how available they are throughout your journey in Ivalice. The goal is to help you assemble the strongest team for your battles.

    Tier List Structure

[Image of Rionvaes Castle with Ramza]

This list sorts characters into tiers, from most powerful to less useful, based on their capabilities in normal gameplay, considering their Job commands, stats, gear, and when you can recruit them.

    S-Tier – Game-Breakers
[Image of Ramza at Riovanes Castle]

Characters here are the most powerful and useful, often breaking the game with their damage and support. They need little effort to be effective and can turn any battle in your favor. Ramza and Orlandeau fit into this category, known for causing chaos with their unique skills.

    A-Tier – Powerhouses
[Image of Agrias leaving the church]

These characters are dependable and versatile. They perform well in their roles and are excellent choices for late-game squads. Their high stats and effective abilities make them reliable from early on through to the end.

    B-Tier – Solid Specialists
[Image of Lionel aiming with an arrow]

These units are strong but tend to fill specific roles. They often need some training or particular team setups to perform at their best. While not universal, their niche skills make them valuable in certain situations.

    C-Tier – Situational

Characters in this group have abilities that tend to be inconsistent or too slow. They often can’t keep up with higher-tier units and are best used only in specific cases or with significant effort. For example, Marach’s attacks are too dependent on having very low Faith, making him unreliable.

    Ramza
    Job: Gallant Knight
Ramza’s stats show high, well-rounded physical and magical growth. His support moves are some of the best, and since he’s easily available early on, he can supplement his skills easily with minimal effort. He’s a nearly perfect all-rounder.

    Orlandeau
    Job: Sword Saint
Orlandeau combines the strongest traits of Holy Knight, Templar, and Fell Knight classes. He deals ranged, high damage with PA-based attacks and can inflict status effects easily. His power can trivialize the toughest endgame content.

Characters in this tier are exceptionally strong and useful, instantly making them some of the best units in the game. Ramza and Orlandeau are famous for their destructive potential, thanks to their unique skills.

  • How To Complete Every Monster in FFT: The Ivalice Chronicles

How To Complete Every Monster in FFT: The Ivalice Chronicles

In Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, monsters play a vital role beyond just battling; they are essential for recruiting new allies and earning valuable items. Whether you want to strengthen your team with rare creatures using the Entice or Tame skills from the Orator class, or you’re after special gear and trade goods through Poach, it’s important to know where these monsters can be found.

This guide includes a complete list of monster types and their common starting locations on the map and during story battles. Use it to find the monsters you need quickly, whether for completing your party, obtaining rare poachable items, or acquiring powerful equipment for your main characters.

While most monsters can be recruited by finding them in specific battles and using the Entice skill, there’s one exception. It’s much easier to recruit early versions of monsters as they appear in the story, since monsters lay eggs as you explore. These eggs may contain monsters of the same tier or a tier apart. For example, a Chocobo can hatch into a Chocobo or Black Chocobo, and a Black Chocobo can lay eggs of various Chocobo types.

Since traveling the world map without fighting random battles is simple, you can easily recruit a monster and walk around until you find the specific species you need. Below, we’ve listed the best early locations to find one member of each monster family.

Tier 1 Monsters Tier 2 Monsters Tier 3 Monsters
    Chocobos Black Chocobo Red Chocobo
Available from Mandalia Plain early on. Found as soon as Mandalia Plain is unlocked. Same as Black Chocobos; often found in the same areas.
    Goblins Black Goblin Gobbledygook
Easily found in Mandalia Plain and Siedge Weald once available. Same locations as Goblins. Occasionally appear in higher-level areas.
    Bombs Grenade Exploder
Plentiful in Siedge Weald battles. Found among Bombs in Siedge Weald. Rare but can appear in advanced zones.
    Big Cats Coeurl Vampire Cat
Red Panthers appear in Mandalia Plain. Locations include Mandalia Plain encounters. Higher-tier Big Cats may be seen in later areas.
    Mindflayers Squidkrakin Mindflayer
Found at Fovoham Windflats after certain story battles, also Zierchele Falls. Common at Zierchele Falls. Same areas.
    Skeletons Bonesnatch Skeletal Fiend

    Ghosts Ghoul Ghast
From Chapter 2 onward, Araguay Woods is a good spot. Same region. Similar locations.
    Ahriman Floating Eye Plague Horror
Usually found in Fovoham Windflats and Zierchele Falls. Common in these areas. Same.
    Birds Jura Aevis Steelhawk
Early in Zeklaus Desert and Zierchele Falls. Available in the desert. Found in the same regions.
    Pigs Swine Wild Boar
First guaranteed in Chapter 4 during a side story at Colliery Ridge. Various rare encounters in Finnath Creek or Midlight’s Deep. Mostly through eggs; less common.
    Treants Dyad Elder Treant
Frequent in Araguay Woods. Same locations. Later areas.
    Minotaurs Wisenkin Sekhret
From Chapter 1, found in Siedge Weald. More reliably in Fovoham Windflats from Chapter 2. Available in later zones.
    Malboros Ochu Great Malboro
Possible in Araguay Woods from Chapter 2. Same. Throughout later game.
    Behemoths Behemoth King Dark Behemoth
Very rare until Daguera Pass unlocks. Available later. Rare.
    Hydras Greater Hydra Tiamat
Balias Swale and Mount Germinas are good spots. Same. Later map locations.

  • Should You Play the Classic or Enhanced Version of FFT: The Ivalice Solving?

Should You Play the Classic or Enhanced Version of FFT: The Ivalice Solving?

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles tells a story set in a politically intense medieval fantasy world, featuring rich and strategic combat. This game is a remake of a classic that’s a fundamental part of the tactical role-playing genre and a major reason many players fell in love with Ivalice. Even years after its original release, new players must choose: do you start with the time-honored Classic Version or go for the more recent Enhanced Version?

Both versions tell the same compelling story of Ramza Beoulve and a war-torn kingdom. However, they differ in how they are presented and the wording of their scripts. Picking which version to play first can be tricky, so let’s look at what makes them different and help decide the best starting point.

    ### The Differences Between Classic and Enhanced

The biggest difference between the two comes down to the script and translation. The Classic version uses the script from the War of the Lions re-release, which is known for its elaborate and sometimes confusing English translation. While it has nostalgia value for longtime fans, it sometimes makes it hard to understand the story’s political details and depth. The original PlayStation version’s awkward localization version is not included.

The Enhanced version features a new, polished script that’s viewed as the definitive version of the story. It’s similar to the Classic script but includes tweaks and new parts that clarify events, characters’ motivations, and key moments. This makes the story easier to follow and, many believe, improves the overall flow of the game.

It’s also worth noting that only the Enhanced version includes voice acting, which is a matter of personal preference.

    ### Visual Presentation Differences

The visual style is the second key difference. The Classic version maintains the original pixel art and interface from its PlayStation days. Many players love this retro look for its nostalgic charm.

The Enhanced version updates graphics but keeps the original isometric style. It features higher-resolution sprites, better portraits, and a wider screen format. These updates make everything look clearer and sharper, although some long-time fans feel the newer visuals lose some of the original’s gritty feel. Still, modern gamers tend to find the updated look more accessible.

Despite the visual changes, the core gameplay remains exactly the same in both versions. The tactical battles, difficulty, and game mechanics are identical.

    ### Which Version Should You Play?

If you’re new to Ivalice and Ramza’s story, we strongly suggest starting with the Enhanced Version. Its improved, cohesive script makes the story easier to enjoy and understand. The updated visuals also help make the game more visually appealing without sacrificing the core style. Overall, this version offers the best experience for getting into the story.

That said, the Classic version is worth playing later on. Its original script is a fascinating part of localization history, and its pixel art has a nostalgic pull. Playing it after the Enhanced Version can give you a deeper appreciation for the game’s roots, but your first playthrough should be with the upgraded version to enjoy the story as it’s best told today.

  • What Replaced the Materia Blade at Mount Bervenia in FFT: The Ivalice Chronicles?

What Replaced the Materia Blade at Mount Bervenia in FFT: The Ivalice Chronicles?

One of the best parts of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles is creating a team of specialized characters who excel in specific areas. In Chapter 4, you have a great opportunity to recruit many strong characters to help you achieve your goals.

One character that stands out is Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy 7. Recruiting him is the highlight of the side story in this chapter, and he’s a valuable addition. While bringing him into your team can be challenging, it’s definitely worth the effort.

    How to Get Cloud

Getting Cloud requires completing all the side quests available in the game. These include:

    • Defeating the Monk in Kenjutsu Road
    • Defeating the Dancer at the Sal Ghidos Gate
    • Defeating the Mirage at the Abbey
    • Winning the Duel at the Jylland House
    • Clearing the Hidden Path at the Archades Expedition

After finishing these tasks, you can visit the Clockwork City of Goug for a cutscene where Cloud is summoned to the FFT world. However, he will run away immediately after appearing.

Next, go back to the Trade City of Sal Ghidos. If you’ve completed everything correctly, you will participate in a battle where your goal is to save Cloud from a group of brigands.

The fight is straightforward. Cloud will stay out of the enemy’s reach, keeping himself safe. You’ll start close enough to attack the brigands, making it easy to distract them from Cloud. It’s helpful to take along several healing characters—preferably ones with at least five movement, the Item skill, and Throw Items support—to keep everyone alive.

Unlike story battles, the enemies scale to your party’s average level. Because of this, it’s wise to bring your strongest units with high damage and durability to make sure the fight is quick and easy.

Once you’ve defeated the brigands, you’ll be able to recruit Cloud into your team.

How to Get the Materia Blade

Cloud begins the game with the Materia Blade, a sword necessary for using Cloud’s special SOLDIER abilities. In earlier versions of this game, players had to go to Mount Bervenia and search the volcano’s top with a Treasure Hunt skill to find it. Luckily, in this version, Cloud starts equipped with it right away.

Mount Bervenia is located southeast of Riovanes Castle. Don’t worry if you think you’ve missed something — this area doesn’t feature any story battles.

However, if you enter a random fight at Mount Bervenia and search the tile where the weapon was previously located, you will instead find the Materia Blade+, a stronger version of the original. This upgraded weapon has six extra attack points and increases Magic Attack by four points, making it one of the best weapons in the game for classes that rely on magic damage, including Cloud.

To find this, your Treasure Hunter must be able to Jump at least four times to reach the top corner of Mount Bervenia. The exact tile is at the mountain’s summit, in its northeastern corner.

  • Nelveska Temple Battle Guide – FFT: The Ivalice Chronicles on Completing and Solving

Nelveska Temple Battle Guide – FFT: The Ivalice Chronicles on Completing and Solving

Chapter 4 is when Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles really opens up, allowing you to explore the world for errands, specialty shops, and random battles to strengthen your team. One very effective way to boost your power is through a side story that becomes available during this chapter.

In this side story, you’ll recruit special characters and sometimes upgrade them without even realizing it! One of the quests involves turning Reis, a Holy Dragon, back into her original human form. She is recruited along with helpful Templar Beowulf, and once transformed, she becomes even more useful.

    How to Turn Reis Human

Turning Reis into a human happens as part of this side story you can start in Chapter 4. You need to meet certain requirements:

    • Recruited both Beowulf and Reis after finishing their quests.
    • Completed the chapter’s main story battles and reached the Trade City of Sal Ghidos. There, you’ll see a cutscene with a flower girl—buying her flower is necessary if you want to recruit Cloud.

Following this, a cutscene in the Clockwork City of Goug will unlock. Watch the scene to gain a new rumor, which can be read at Zeltennia Castle. Reading this rumor opens access to Nelveska Temple, linked to Zeltennia Castle.

Traveling to Nelveska Temple will trigger a battle. Complete this battle to transform Reis into a human and continue with the next part of Chapter 4’s side story.

    How to Defeat Construct 7

The Nelveska Temple battle features Construct 7, two Hydras, and three Cockatrices. The main threat is Construct 7—similar to Construct 8—so if you’re familiar with that fight, you’re halfway there. Unlike some enemies, Construct 7 doesn’t die instantly when its health drops to zero; it revives with minimal health, so focus on defeating it strategically.

Magic attacks are mostly ineffective as Construct 7 is immune to them. Physical attackers are your best bet. Units like Orlandeau and Agrias are ideal, especially with their Hallowed Bolts attack that hits multiple enemies. It’s best to eliminate the Hydras and Cockatrices first because they are easier to kill and can interfere with healing.

Once you isolate Construct 7, keep reviving any allies it kills while whittling down its health. Use units equipped with revival abilities—like Phoenix Down, Raise, or Revive—to keep your team alive.

How to Get the Escutcheon and Javelin

Nelveska Temple’s battlefield contains valuable, powerful equipment you can obtain with the Treasure Hunter ability, learned by Chemists. Focus on the tops of the two tall pillars near your starting area, which initially hold Hydras.

The desired items are the Javelin and Escutcheon, which, despite sharing names with weaker versions, are the strongest and most powerful. Make sure your Treasure Hunter units are equipped to recognize and pick up these elite items; you’ll see special icons over their heads when they’re on the right tiles.

To reach the top of these tall pillars, you’ll need:

    • A monster unit capable of being stepped upon (like Construct 8 or Reis in her Holy Dragon form) standing next to the pillar.
    • A Treasure Hunter with at least 4 Jump points, possibly equipped with Spiked Shoes to increase reach.

During this process, beware that Treasure Hunt mechanics depend on your unit’s Bravery stat:

    • When ending a turn on a treasure tile, the game calculates whether you get the common or rare item.
    • Higher Bravery increases the chance of finding the rare, better item.
    • Units taking the Chemist job have an increased chance of obtaining rare items.
    • Rapha is a popular Treasure Hunter due to her starting Bravery of only 32, which makes her over 70% likely to get the rare weapons from the pillars.

Using these strategies, you’ll be able to unlock some of the most powerful weapons in the game and successfully complete the chapter’s side missions.

  • Top Ramza Build in FFT: The Ivalice Chronicles for Completing and Solving

Top Ramza Build in FFT: The Ivalice Chronicles for Completing and Solving

Ramza is the central figure in Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, and he’s essential to every story battle. If he dies and turns to crystal for too long, the game ends. Therefore, it’s important to build him into the strongest possible unit.

This suggested build focuses on making Ramza’s signature skills the main tools for boosting his allies, while also giving him powerful offensive options when he can reach enemies. Equipped properly, he becomes an outstanding leader on the battlefield.

    Best Ramza Build

Ramza’s unique Mettle techniques make him the perfect support character who can also hold his own in combat. This setup emphasizes utilizing his key skills to strengthen the team, along with emphasizing high damage output when he can engage enemies directly.

    Equipment and Job Setup

    Ability/Job Details Equipment
Job Gallant Knight Main Hand: 2 Knight Swords
    Secondary Iaido Off-Hand: (not specified)
    Reaction Shirahadorai Headgear: Thief’s Cap
Support Dual Wield Body: Crystal Mail
    Movement Movement +2 Accessory: Bracers

Ramza’s weapon choices should be different Knight Swords so he can benefit from multiple effects—Excalibur paired with Save the Queen, for example. For increased mobility, options like Teleport or Movement +3 would be ideal, but obtaining them requires significant time in magic classes, which can slow down his physical development and may harm his stats due to unnecessary levels.

Since Ramza starts early, leveling in all physical jobs is manageable, especially if you aim for high-tier skills. Focus on progressing toward jobs like Samurai and Ninja early on. A typical leveling route is to first aim for Ninja, acquiring Dual Wield and boosting his speed for tough battles, such as the duel against Wiegraf. Once Dual Wield is obtained, switch to Samurai to unlock Shirahadorai and the Iaido skillset.

    Additional Options

    • Consider using Martial Arts as a secondary job until you gather strong Katanas.
    • Use Counter as his Reaction ability before unlocking Shirahadorai, or after if Ramza’s durability is high enough to withstand hits.
    • While Dual Wield improves attack speed and damage by wielding two Knight Swords simultaneously, choosing Doublehand from Samurai means he won’t need to unlock Ninja, simplifying his build but sacrificing some offensive versatility.
  • Top Careers in FFT: The Ivalice Chronicles — Solving and Completing

Top Careers in FFT: The Ivalice Chronicles — Solving and Completing

The rich and rewarding Job system in Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles makes gameplay exciting. It allows you to turn basic units into powerful fighters capable of matching the game’s unique heroes. Building a strong generic unit is essential, and knowing which Jobs provide the best skills, stats, and versatility is key to winning.

This tier list ranks all the standard, non-unique Job classes available to your generic human units. It focuses on how effective they are overall in a normal playthrough, considering their Action, Reaction, Support, and Movement skills. The list assumes a balanced approach to grinding but recognizes the strength of late-game combos.

Our tier list is divided into five categories—from essential to niche or underwhelming options. Rankings are based mainly on each Job’s skills, usefulness, and stat growth for developing units over time.

    | Tier | Description |
    |———|————————————————————————————————————–|
    | S-Tier | Strategy cores: These Jobs are game-changing or essential, offering powerful abilities or core stats vital for end-game setups. Prioritize mastering these. |
    | A-Tier | Powerhouses: Excellent Jobs that provide high utility, strong damage, or support skills. Using them significantly boosts your team’s effectiveness. |
    | B-Tier | Solid Picks: Useful for specific roles or with powerful abilities, but less versatile overall. Often important early on or as stepping stones. |
    | C-Tier | Situational Picks: These Jobs are effective only in certain situations or easily outperformed by others. Best for specific scenarios or as temporary options. |
    | D-Tier | Underwhelming: Niche Jobs that have limited utility, difficult to justify, or require effort that isn’t rewarded by their payoff. |

Final Fantasy Tactics excels at combining skills. A Job’s rank may be high even if its main skill set isn’t outstanding if it unlocks key Support or Reaction abilities that define the meta (like the Samurai).

    ### S-Tier: Strategy Cores
These Jobs are fundamental or overpowered, providing abilities that can completely change the game. Focus on mastering these.

    | Job | Reasoning |
    |————–|——————————————————————————————————————————|
    | Arithmetician | The most broken ability set—casts most magic instantly and at no cost through simple calculations. It’s complex to use but trivializes nearly all content. When AI-controlled, it’s even more effective. |
    | Samurai | Excellent Iaido skills; especially Shirahadori for dodge tanks. Doublehand offers a great alternative to Dual Wield for physical units. |
    | Ninja | High Speed growth and Dual Wield support. Their ability to attack twice with any weapon allows for massive damage, especially when paired with strong physical Jobs like Monks or Knights wielding Excalibur. |
    | Chemist | Unmatched utility and resurrection powers. Items can be used instantly for healing, and Auto-Potion makes support very reliable, especially if you focus on top-tier Potions. |

The Arithmetician is the ultimate late-game goal for spellcasters, enabling instant, map-wide magic attacks that bypass normal balance. Its weak stats are irrelevant compared to its overwhelming power. The Ninja’s key strength is its high Speed and Dual Wield support, making it a top damage dealer when paired with the right Jobs.

    ### A-Tier: Powerhouses
Strong Jobs that excel in damage output, utility, or support, greatly improving your team’s strength.

    | Job | Reasoning |
    |—————|———————————————————————————————————-|
    | Monk | Offers high damage, excellent utility, and strong growth. Martial Arts provides instant, MP-free attacks, including healing and revival. Brawler support skill is also valuable. |
    | Geomancer | A flexible hybrid that combines physical and magical attacks. Geomancy is a fast, mid-range attack that can inflict status effects, and it boasts good all-around stats. |
    | Black Mage | Pure magic damage job with high Magic Attack. It’s vital for unlocking other magic jobs and learning Magic Attack Up. Reliable from start to finish. |
    | White Mage | The main healer, providing powerful healing and buffs. Always useful, and combining White Mage with Chemist offers ultimate support. |
    | Time Mage | Provides key utility like Haste, Slow, and Teleport. Short Charge support is vital for casters and summoners alike. |

Monks are quick to unlock and excel with high HP and attack growth, while Geomancers serve as versatile hybrids. Magic Jobs like Black Mage and Time Mage are essential for magical offense and utility, respectively.

    ### B-Tier: Solid Picks
Useful but less central Jobs that can fill specific roles.

    | Job | Reasoning |
    |————–|———————————————————————————————————————————–|
    | Orator | Useful for support with Invite and Bravery/Faith tuning. Can equip guns for ranged attacks. Effective in niche battles. |
    | Squire | Great for early game, offering useful transitional skills like JP-Up and Move+1. Not for late game but excellent for support or as a backup. |
    | Dragoons | Strong single-target damage with Jump, making units untargetable during charge. Good physical growth, especially with Javelin. |
    | Summoner | Powerful AoE magic and support abilities, especially Golem. MP costs and long charge times limit use, but can be effective with gear setups. |
    | Knight | Early-game tank that can wear Heavy Armor. Arts of War can disable enemies’ equipment but is more niche in persistence. |
    | Orator | Useful for its support capabilities, especially in setups that rely on its long-range skills. |

These Jobs excel in key roles but rely heavily on specific conditions, terrain, or enemy behaviors to be most effective. They are critical in certain fights but aren’t as generally reliable.

    ### C-Tier: Situational Picks
Jobs with limited usefulness or for specific niche uses.

    | Job | Reasoning |
    |————|————————————————————————-|
    | Thief | Stealing can disable enemies or grab rare equipment, but on the battlefield, the utility is limited. Move +2 is useful, though. |
    | Mystic | Inflicts various status effects; can be powerful but unreliable. Also a prerequisite for Arithmetician. Mostly useful for offense with Poles at high risk due to fragility. |
    | Archer | Good for early safety and ranged damage, but its usefulness drops later. Aim commands are luck-dependent, and growth is mediocre. |

While these Jobs have their moments, they are often outclassed by more reliable options and tend to be situational or only useful in specific contexts.

    ### D-Tier: Underwhelming
Jobs generally considered to have limited value.

    | Job | Reasoning |
    |———–|———————————————————————————————————————|
    | Dancer | Slower, unreliable enemy debuffing. Its dances have inconsistent effects, and it’s hard to use in most battles. Its mobility is good, though. |
    | Bard | Party buffing is slow, often luck-reliant, and benefits take too long to manifest. Movement abilities are excellent, but overall, it’s less effective. |
    | Mime | High investment with unpredictable returns. Copies other actions but isn’t flexible or powerful enough to justify the effort. High unlock threshold and limited utility make it less worth it overall. |

These Jobs are mainly for novelty or fun but are generally outperformed by other choices. They can be fun to experiment with but rarely form the core of a winning strategy.

In summary, combining skills is what makes FFT’s Job system shine. Even Jobs ranked lower can be valuable if their unique abilities complement your strategy. Focus on mastering Strategy Cores first, then build around solid powerhouses, and use situational or niche Jobs when appropriate.

  • Solving Wiegraf at Windflat Mill in FFT: The Ivalice Chronicles

Solving Wiegraf at Windflat Mill in FFT: The Ivalice Chronicles

The battle at Fovoham Windflats takes place on a small, raised land around a windmill. This fight requires a different approach than previous battles.

The main challenge is Wiegraf, a White Knight who hits extremely hard. He is supported by melee units that can easily overwhelm a poorly positioned team. The limited terrain means close-range combat, so managing your units’ placement is essential.

    Enemy List

    • Wiegraf: The main threat. He uses Holy Sword abilities that are powerful, ranged, and ignore evasion. His damage is high, and the fight ends when his health drops to critical.
    • Monks: Two quick and somewhat fragile but dangerous melee fighters. They can heal themselves and pose a threat if ignored.
    • Knight: One bulky melee fighter who can dish out strong attacks but isn’t the biggest danger here.
    • Yellow Chocobo: One fast, high-hitpoint enemy that acts as the healer, using Choco Cure to heal allies quickly. Eliminating Wiegraf’s health is enough to win; killing other enemies isn’t necessary but can make the fight easier.

    Party Setup Recommendations

    • Ramza: Make him a Knight with the best heavy armor and a shield. Set his secondary ability to items and keep High Potion and Phoenix Down ready. His role is to be a tough, self-sustaining melee attacker who draws Wiegraf’s attention or fights the Monks.
    • Knight/Squire: Another well-armored unit, preferably with a shield. Use the Parry ability and consider an evasion-enhancing item like a Shoulder Cape.
    • Chemist: Vital for quick healing and reviving. They should know Potion, High Potion, and Phoenix Down. Keep them near the back to support while avoiding Wiegraf’s Holy Sword range.
    • Black Mage: The key to ending the fight fast. Use elemental rods matching their spells (like Flame Rod for Fira) and take support abilities like Arcane Strength if available. Casting a high-damage spell at Wiegraf can lead to an immediate victory.
    • Delita: Usually rushes forward. Equip him with strong Knight gear to act as a distraction and buffer. Use him as a tank, making sure he survives to divert enemies’ attention.

    Battle Strategy
The main plan is to contain Wiegraf and focus all your efforts on him. Proper initial placement is crucial:

    • Position your toughest units (Ramza and the Knight) close to the enemy.
    • Keep your Black Mage and Chemist slightly back, within range to heal or attack Wiegraf, but out of his Holy Sword reach.
    • Don’t rush prematurely. Move Ramza and the Knight just enough to attract Wiegraf and the Monks to approach you.
    • Use Delita as a meat shield. If he gets hit by Wiegraf’s Holy Sword, it saves one of your key units some damage—the turns spent healing him are better used elsewhere.

Since the fight ends when Wiegraf’s HP is critical, your primary goal is to land a powerful spell on him immediately. If Wiegraf is out of reach, focus physical damage on the Yellow Chocobo, which is fast and can heal allies, potentially prolonging the battle unnecessarily.

The core tactic is to use your Black Mage to unleash a high-level, elemental spell that can substantially damage or nearly kill Wiegraf in one hit. Multiple units should focus on him quickly to prevent him from retaliating with a deadly Holy Sword counter before he falls.

    Key Points

    • Use magic to take Wiegraf down swiftly.
    • Position your tanks to block the monks and protect your healers.
    • Heal aggressively with items, especially Phoenix Downs, to prevent unit deaths.
    • Focus solely on Wiegraf’s health; defeating other enemies isn’t the main goal.
  • Winning the Dorter Slums Battle in FFT: The Ivalice Chronicles by Completing and Solving

Winning the Dorter Slums Battle in FFT: The Ivalice Chronicles by Completing and Solving

The first major challenge in Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles often comes during the battle in Dorter’s busy, yet dangerous, Merchant City. The Dorter Slums fight is well-known for being tough, especially because of its powerful ranged enemies and confusing terrain.

In this section, we’ll look at the enemy types, suggest the best team setup—particularly considering Delita’s and Argath’s unpredictable movements—and outline a winning plan to break through the enemy’s strong ranged attacks. Get your best gear ready, prepare your secondary skills, and let’s turn this tough fight into a clear victory.

    ### Dorter Slums Overview

The Dorter Slums battle tends to be the first real test against strong ranged enemies. Many players find it challenging because Delita and Argath often act in unpredictable ways, making them hard to anticipate. The enemies can also surprise you with how much damage they deal.

    ### Enemy List

    | Enemy | Number | Notes |
    |—————–|———|——————————————————————————————-|
    | Knight | 1 | A bulky foe, but not as dangerous as some others on the field. |
    | Archers | 3 | One uses a Longbow and is positioned high up, making it easy to attack your weaker units. It targets the most vulnerable. One uses a Crossbow, which is less threatening but still dangerous. The last has no weapon, so it’s less of a threat. |
    | Black Mages | 2 | They are dangerous thanks to their damage spells, but can be defeated relatively easily. |

    ### Recommended Party Setup

    | Party Member | Tips |
    |—————–|—————————————————————————————————————-|
    | Ramza | Use Ramza as a Squire or Knight, equipped with the best armor available. He should lead, taking out the Black Mage behind the Knight early, but don’t charge ahead blindly. |
    | Knight | Place a well-armored Knight with a shield at the front. He distracts the Archers and Black Mages, supported by healers. Equip secondary items like Potions or High Potions. |
    | Chemist | Ranged healing is crucial here. Keep units spread out to avoid enemy spells and bombs from Black Mages. Prepare at least one Chemist with Potion and Phoenix Down. |
    | Black Mage | Wield a Rod and elemental spells to target the Knight and grouped enemies. Be cautious; they are prime targets for enemy ranged attacks. Keep them healed, especially from enemies with long-range weapons. |
    | Delita & Argath | They’ll likely rush the Archer on the rooftops early on. Equip them with Battle Boots to improve mobility. Once the Archer is handled, you can make one of them a Chemist temporarily to assist with healing from afar. |

    ### Battle Strategy

This fight is about understanding enemy strengths and planning your moves carefully. The bulky Knight stands firm, while Archers stay safely away from melee combat. Black Mages tend to cluster, making them vulnerable to spells.

Focus on healing secondary abilities and keep your units healthy. First, aim to eliminate the Black Mages, as their spells pose the biggest threat. Next, take out the Knight before it causes too much damage. Finish with the Archers, who are easier to handle once the more dangerous enemies are gone.

Avoid rushing forward too much. Ramza tends to start ahead, making him vulnerable early on. Instead, move him carefully, so enemies approach you, allowing your team to swarm and focus fire effectively.

    ### Key Tips:
    – Always keep units spaced at least one tile apart to minimize damage from enemy spells and area attacks.
    – Don’t rely solely on your Chemist or a single unit for healing; spread out healing abilities across multiple units.
    – Use one of your guest units as a Chemist, ensuring they know Potion and Phoenix Down.
    – Prioritize taking out the Black Mages first, then the Knight, and finally the Archers to streamline your victory.
