Completing Marco Rodrigues in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

Marco Rodrigues embodies the quintessential fighter in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. While Terry also fits this mold, Marco stands out with a moveset reminiscent of Ryo from Art of Fighting— a nod to Street Fighter’s Ryu. He features classic abilities like a fireball, an uppercut, and a rapid series of kicks that can traverse the arena.

Even though he shares similarities with familiar characters, Marco brings unique traits and original moves to the table, ensuring he’s a distinct character in the game. This guide aims to help you harness the techniques of Kyokushin Karate to dominate your opponents.

    Marco Rodrigues Overview

As a typical game protagonist, Marco comes equipped with a fireball, a dragon punch, and a flying kick that closes distance quickly. His dragon punch (Kouhou) is entirely invincible at the start, making it an excellent move against aerial attacks and a powerful option on wake-up.

Yet, Marco offers more than just the standard shoto toolkit. He can also cancel his Kouhou, making it significantly safer. He has moves similar to Ken’s step-kicks from Street Fighter 6, and he can deceive opponents by feigning his fireball, which encourages them to jump.

Marco excels at pressuring opponents, making it easy to connect multiple hits for substantial damage. One of his standout moves is his crouching heavy punch (c.HP), which hits twice, allowing for easy confirmation into special attacks. If you cancel a Kouhou, you can follow it up with a super attack.

Additionally, Marco has two types of dashes. His Harai Uke (⬇️↙️⬅️ + LP/HP) serves as both a dash and a counter. Use it to capitalize when opponents throw out normals. The real star of the show, however, is his universal forward dash, ➡️+REV. This dash is incredibly fast and lets Marco exert intense pressure. Utilize it by grabbing opponents, backing off to make their grab miss, and then punishing them.

    Marco Rodrigues Command List

Marco performing the Haou Shoukou Ken in Fatal Fury City of the Wolves.

Marco’s move list is diverse, featuring numerous techniques (though he lacks a command grab). Notably, he has hold moves. Both his Ryuusen Ken and Kosen Kyaku require you to hold a button and release to execute. You’ll also find that Marco can cancel many of his special moves.

Importantly, both versions of his Haou Shoukou Ken super can cut through most of your opponent’s attacks, making it an effective way to catch enemies who commit to moves. Refer to this guide whenever you need some quick refreshers on Marco’s techniques. It can really help if you’re struggling to remember a move input between rounds!

    Marco Rodrigues Combos

One of Marco’s more complex combo options is his Feint Fireball (➡️LK+HP). With this feint, he can cancel his c.HK and follow up with a crouching heavy punch (c.HP), leading to various combo possibilities.

It’s crucial to break his Kouhou (⬇️↘️➡️ HP) and Hien Shippuu Kyaku (⬇️↘️➡️ HK) whenever you can, as this will maximize your damage output. Practicing these moves is essential, as they play a significant role in Marco’s gameplay.

    Combos For Marco Rodrigues

    • Marco performing his c.HP in Fatal Fury City of the Wolves.

    • c.HP > ⬇️↘️➡️ LP+HP > ➡️⬇️↘️ LP+HP > REV > ⬇️↘️➡️,⬇️↘️➡️ LP

This beginner-friendly combo requires you to execute the Ko’ou Ken (⬇️↘️➡️ LP+HP) precisely when the second hit of the c.HP connects. You can combo from a j.HP or j.HK, but aim for a deep connection.

    • [crossup] j.LK > c.LP > c.LK > ➡️⬇️↘️ + HP > REV > ⬇️↘️➡️ LK+HK

This cross-up combo can knock about 25% off your opponent’s health without using any meter. It’s an effective option!

While you can combine this with higher-damage options later on, keep in mind that starting with three light hits may lower the damage output of subsequent super moves. It might be wise to keep this combo intact.

    • Marco performing his crouch HP in Fatal Fury City of the Wolves.

    • c.HK > ➡️LK+HP > ↘️HP > ➡️⬇️↘️ + HP > REV > ⬇️↘️➡️ + HK > REV > ⬇️↘️➡️,⬇️↘️➡️ LP or HP

This sequence can deal significant damage. While it requires a feint cancel, mastering it is crucial for executing big combos with Marco. If your S.P.G. is active, substitute the combo’s super with his Hidden Gear (⬇️↘️➡️,⬇️↘️➡️ REV).

    Marco Rodrigues Tips And Tricks

In your matches, you’ll primarily be poking with normals while controlling Marco. The standing forward light kick is a solid poke, though it doesn’t combo. His forward heavy kick is more effective and can link into his Kyohou (➡️⬇️↘️ + HP) on counter hit, but remember it won’t connect against crouching opponents if they are too far. Use both moves, but prioritize the heavy kick to set up for big damage. You can also mix in the feint version of the f.HK (f.HK > LK+HP) to throw your opponents off.

Leverage Marco’s excellent REV Dash (REV+➡️) often. When exchanging attacks, try sneaking in a dash to close the gap and grab quickly. Integrating the crouching heavy kick (c.HK) after a dash can lead to major damage. This speedy dash will keep opponents alert and encourage them to throw out normals to counter a dash, making them vulnerable to Marco’s Harai Uke (⬇️↙️⬅️ + LP/HP) counterattack.

Once an opponent is down, use that opportunity to mix things up. Start with a dash in and throw them again, or execute a meaty c.HK. Even simply dashing in and blocking can catch opponents off guard, especially when they attempt a reversal.

While attacking at close range, focus on using Marco’s hover-heavy kick (c.HK). Always transition into this string from the crouching heavy kick…

    HK > ➡️LK+HP > ↘️HP > ➡️⬇️↘️ + HP > REV

If this string connects, you can continue with specials and supers to deliver severe damage. (Refer to the first two combos for some suggestions.) If blocked, you’ll only face slight disadvantage. You’ll be safe from punishment, so there’s no need for concern. You can try to regain your turn with jab attacks. If you suspect your opponent will retaliate with jabs, use your Harai Uke (⬇️↙️⬅️ + LP/HP) to take control.

Overall, play Marco as a more aggressive version of Ryu. Challenge your opponents with fireballs. During fireball duels, deploy your Haou Shoukou Ken (⬇️↘️➡️, ⬇️↘️➡️ LP) to decisively win the exchange. Stay alert for jumping opponents, countering them with Kouhou (➡️⬇️↘️ HP), then REV cancel into a powerful combo. Use the REV dash and apply pressure with your normals to quickly rise through the ranks.

    A solid follow-up after an anti-air DP could be something like… ➡️⬇️↘️ + HP > REV > ⬇️↘️➡️ + HK > REV > ⬇️↘️➡️,⬇️↘️➡️ LP or HP

  • Completing Kevin Rian in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

Completing Kevin Rian in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

Kevin Rian stands out as one of the heavy hitters in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. He may resemble a grappler, but this big guy has a diverse set of moves that go beyond just powerful punches and kicks. Notably, he excels at chaining combos, especially since his light kick can link directly to his heavy punch. Even more impressively, he can follow up after hitting his super moves.

This guide is designed to help you make the most of Kevin’s abilities, providing insights into his attack patterns and effective combo strategies. While he may not be the easiest character to master, we’ll guide you in delivering those powerful strikes and using his unique skill set to your advantage.

    Kevin Rian Overview

In the neutral game, Kevin shines with his long-reaching normal attacks that effectively control mid-range combat. These moves are not only effective but also create opportunities for frame traps, especially when combined with his Hell Rotor (⬇️↙️⬅️ + LP/HP) attack.

He also has chargeable special moves, which, while trickier to integrate into combos, deal substantial damage when charged and can lead to advantageous combos.

Kevin features a command grab, ramping up his pressure when he’s close to the opponent. His light attacks can chain into heavy-damage moves, and he has an excellent overhead attack that can create meaty setups on wake-up. This makes him particularly menacing in close quarters.

While he’s formidable at medium to close range, he does struggle at long distances due to the lack of a projectile. However, he has the Avoid Mine (⬇️↙️⬅️ + LK/HK) command roll that grants projectile invincibility, allowing him to dodge fireballs and close the gap effectively.

Be cautious with the timing of the roll move; inputting it too late risks getting hit since the invincibility is not active on the first frame, unless you use the REV version of the roll.

This section highlights Kevin’s powerful special moves. He has various unique attacks, some filling the space in front of him, while others are effective for aerial approaches.

    Kevin Rian Combos

Kevin is equipped with a range of robust combos, primarily due to his ability to chain moves after his super attacks. His light kick naturally links into his heavy punch, opening up various impactful combo paths, especially following cross-ups. Furthermore, his heavy kick plays a significant role in several combos as it can be canceled to extend attacks. Practicing how to cancel that kick will be beneficial.

Also, practice transitioning from his c.HK into his heavy punch. Use LK + HP to execute this combination.

    Combos For Kevin Rian

    • c.HK > LK + HP > HP > ⬇️↘️➡️ HK > REV > ⬇️↘️➡️, ⬇️↘️➡️ LK > ⬇️↘️➡️ LP

This combo doesn’t require REV meter, although you can change out these specials to make it longer.

    • [Counter Hit] ⬇️⬇️ + HK > HK > Cr.LP > LK > ⬇️↘️➡️, ⬇️↘️➡️ HK > ⬇️↙️⬅️ LP + HP > ➡️⬇️↘️ LP + HP > ⬇️↘️➡️ LK + HK > LK + HP > ⬇️↘️➡️ HK

This is a substantial combo. Note that most of the damage occurs once you hit the Hell Rotor (⬇️↙️⬅️ LP + HP), so feel free to end it early if your REV meter gets low.

    Kevin Rian Tips And Tricks

Kevin landing his heavy punch in Fatal Fury City of the Wolves.

Start by poking with Kevin’s HP and HK. If you score a hit, follow up with a light Hell Rotor (⬇️↙️⬅️ + LP). While this won’t combo, it can lead to a counter hit if your opponent presses a button. When in close, cancel his c.HP into a heavy Hell Rotor for a powerful overhead move.

Moreover, when Kevin is close to his opponent, his LK can transition into his HP, leading to special moves. Alternatively, utilize his command grab, Hell Arrest (➡️⬇️↘️ + LK/HK), for additional combo opportunities. In close-range situations, Kevin can easily go from light attacks to high-damage combos.

Using his Creeper Kick (⬇️⬇️ + HK > HK) can secure an overhead against opponents who are too focused on crouch-blocking. This can also yield significant damage if it lands as a counter, especially when timed as they get up.

Overall, Kevin Rian is highly effective in applying pressure with a solid range of overhead attacks and evasive moves, perfect for punishing opponents on wake-up.

This captures the essence of Kevin Rian’s playstyle: controlling the battlefield with normals and specials while fishing for counter hits. If your opponent becomes defensive, shift to command grabs or overheads, and set up meaty attacks when they are down. Mastering Kevin means keeping your opponent on their toes, often forcing them to remain guarded.

  • Completing Every Mechanic in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

Completing Every Mechanic in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

This guide serves as a comprehensive resource for mastering every mechanic in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. While the game does offer a legend for its mechanics and includes a demonstration mode, it often falls short in presenting a clear overview for players.

My aim with this guide is to break down each mechanic for you, enabling quick reference while you explore other guides, and to clarify their contexts, as it can be easy to get confused and forget the specific roles of each mechanic.

    S.P.G.

Before entering a match, you can choose the S.P.G section of your health bar. This unlocks the use of REV Blows and Hidden Gear super attacks. Additionally, when in S.P.G. mode, your damage output increases.

Selecting Tizoc's S.P.G. in Fatal Fury City of the Wolves.

Starting with the REV Art can often give you an advantage in early exchanges. However, it can make utilizing Hidden Gear more challenging. If you reserve it for the back third of your health, it acts as a comeback mechanic, but this might allow your opponent to gain momentum. Placing it in the middle is essentially a balanced option.

Keep in mind that every character can execute combos that can deplete more than a third of your health, so if you position S.P.G anywhere but the front, you might miss out on its benefits.

    REV Blow

Tizoc performing his REV Blow in Fatal Fury City of the Wolves.

To execute a REV Blow, press the heavy punch and heavy kick buttons at the same time. Every REV Blow offers some level of invincibility, making it a powerful option against opponents using pokes. You can only use this attack while your health is in the S.P.G section and can even perform it in the air.

    Hidden Gear

Salvatore Ganacci striking Terry in Fatal Fury City of the Wolves.

The S.P.G. mode grants access to your Hidden Gear super attack, which is the most visually impressive and powerful super in your repertoire. Though it requires both super meters, landing this attack can completely refresh your REV gauge, offering a significant shift in momentum if you’re nearing limit.

    REV Guard

Rock utilizing a REV Guard in Fatal Fury City of the Wolves.

A REV Guard works similarly to a Push-Block, a concept familiar to players of Marvel Vs Capcom. It creates distance while defending, nullifying any chip damage. You can hold the REV Guard, and the longer you do so, the more your REV Meter increases.

    REV Accel

Salvatore Ganacci performing the REV version of his running attack.

REV Accel allows you to cancel one REV Art into another. For example, Terry can cancel the REV version of his Buster Wolf into the REV version of his Power Wave. The timing must be precise; input the command for the second REV Art the moment the first one lands. REV Arts that hit multiple times can cancel at any point.

To perform a REV Accel, a valid move must be available. For instance, Salvatore cannot execute a REV Accel after his Sky’s Beat as he will be airborne without any special moves possible in that state. In contrast, Tizoc can perform a REV Accel by canceling his Olympus Over flying elbow into his Icarus Crash aerial grab.

    Breaks

HP + LK or REV during selected Special Attacks

Breaks are a way to cut select Special Attacks short. This can make unsafe moves harder to punish or open up new combo routes. Breaks must be performed early; once you pass a certain point in the special, the option to break vanishes.

    Feints

Marco executing a feint in Fatal Fury City of the Wolves.

A Feint causes your character to perform just the initial part of an attack without completing it. The goal is to confuse your opponent, making them more likely to commit to a counter or jump, leaving them open to follow-up attacks.

Certain Breaks can serve as Feints, like Tizoc’s Poseidon Wave Break.

    Just Defense

Rock executing a Just Defense in Fatal Fury City of the Wolves.

Press ⬅️ or ↙️ just before impact

Just Defense is executed just before an attack lands. If successful, your character will be surrounded by a green aura, resulting in a small health recovery, no chip damage, and a faster recovery from the block. You can chain multiple Just Defenses to completely stop multi-hitting attacks. While there’s no air guard in City of the Wolves, you can perform Just Defense in the air.

If this resembles a Third Strike parry, that’s because it functions in a similar manner.

    Hyper Defense

Press ➡️ or ↘️ just before impact

A Hyper Defense follows a normal block

The Hyper Defense operates like the Just Defense, but it occurs after a normal block, performed by directing towards your opponent. After blocking the initial hit of a multi-hitting attack, you can perform Hyper Defenses by pushing forward as subsequent hits land or down-forward for low attacks.

    Guard Cancel

Tizoc in close-up during his SPD attack in Fatal Fury City of the Wolves.

A Guard Cancel is an attack that you can execute right after a Just Defense. The timing is extremely tight, but it allows you to counter with an attack. You can Guard Cancel any of the following:

    • Special Move
    • REV Blow
    • Redline Gear
    • Hidden Gear

It’s crucial to be quick in executing the attack after the Just Defense, especially for Redline or Hidden Gear. The easiest option to use during a Guard Cancel is a REV Blow, but it requires that you have S.P.G. mode active.

    Counter Hit Vs. Wild Punish

Tizoc using his REV Poseidon Wave attack in Fatal Fury City of the Wolves.

Interestingly, City of the Wolves features two types of counter-hit mechanics. The standard Counter, found in most fighting games, allows you to score a “counter hit” if you hit your opponent as they’re committing to an attack. Counter-attacks hit faster, enabling specific combos that wouldn’t normally work.

On the other hand, a Wild Punish occurs when you land an attack during your opponent’s recovery frames. Each attack has three phases: startup, active, and recovery. The startup phase occurs before the damage is inflicted, the active phase is when the attack can damage, and recovery follows the attack’s damage phase.

For instance, Marco’s Kouhou uppercut is in its startup when he kneels down, active during his upward punch, and in recovery as he falls back to the ground.

Successfully achieving a Wild Punish requires precise timing. When executed correctly, it not only allows for faster recovery but also launches your opponent high into the air. The Wild Punish is a more powerful counter and facilitates the most damaging combos in the game.

  • Completing Tizoc’s Journey in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

Completing Tizoc’s Journey in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

Tizoc is the standout grappler in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. While he embodies the typical wrestling archetype, this quirky fighter brings far more to the table than just bulk. With a variety of moves ranging from full-screen lariats to powerful anti-airs, this feathered fighter is a force to be reckoned with!

This guide will introduce you to all of Tizoc’s moves and offer useful tips on when to use them. Additionally, we’ll include some beginner-friendly combos to help increase your damage output. Soon enough, you’ll be soaring through the air and slamming your opponents down!

    Tizoc Overview

As the grappler in City of the Wolves, Tizoc boasts an array of throws. Grabbing opponents is key to maximizing his potential. He has a powerful 360-degree throw (➡️↘️⬇️↙️⬅️↖️⬆️ + LP/HP) for dealing heavy damage at close range. Additionally, his Hercules Throw (⬇️↘️➡️ + LP/HP) sends enemies into the corner, while the Artemis Rex (⬇️↘️➡️ + LK/HK) allows him to rush forward and grab opponents.

Tizoc also features the Active Typhoon (➡️⬇️↘️ LK/HK), which can grab standing foes. The REV version of this move is quick, while the LK variant is great for countering aggressive opponents. His Icarus Crash (⬇️↘️➡️ + LP/HP) snatches opponents out of the air. Moreover, his regular throw has a follow-up option for added damage (⬅️ or ➡️ + LP/HP).

But Tizoc’s game isn’t just about grappling. He also has some powerful strikes for engaging with opponents at mid-range. Moves like the ⬅️+HP Grif-Chop and the ⬅️+HK Grif-Kick are lengthy, impactful attacks that allow him to trade blows effectively. His Cr. HP serves as a fantastic anti-air against most angles.

On top of that, Tizoc possesses the Poseidon Wave close line (⬇️↙️⬅️ LP/HP) to move across the screen elegantly, and the Olympus Over elbow strike (⬇️↙️⬅️ LK/HK) works as an effective anti-air while also helping him close the gap. Tizoc’s speed is somewhat lacking, making these tools essential for maintaining offensive pressure.

When using S.P.G., you gain access to Tizoc’s REV Blow, a powerful leaping kick that covers a lot of ground. The aerial version features a diagonal dive attack. While neither is particularly fast, both deal significant damage and control space well.

    Tizoc Combos

Tizoc posing with his arms open in Fatal Fury City of the Wolves.

One of Tizoc’s standout features is his ability to create combos. Impressively, you can link many of his grapples directly. Furthermore, Tizoc currently has an OTG (On The Ground) grapple, allowing you to follow up a knockdown with a strong grab. To execute this OTG, backdash, then immediately perform his Icarus Crash (⬇️↘️➡️ HP) while airborne from the backdash.

OTG means “On The Ground.” This type of attack can hit a downed opponent. OTG moves are relatively rare in 2D fighting games, although titles like Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 are well-known for them.

    Combos For Tizoc

    • ⬇️↙️⬅️ LK+HK > ⬇️↘️➡️ LP+HP [in the air]

Using the REV version of Olympus Over as an anti-air will allow you to cancel into the REV version of Icarus Crash. Make sure to cancel on the second hit of Olympus Over for maximum damage.

You can also land a non-REV version of Icarus Crash after a jump following Olympus Over, though the timing is quite challenging.

    • ⬅️+HP [fully charged] > LP > ⬇️↘️➡️ LK+HK > ⬇️↙️⬅️ LK+HK

This combo is a fantastic way to extend a charged chop into substantial damage. You can even skip the chop altogether, resulting in a loss of 25% of your opponent’s health with just one jab.

    Tizoc Tips And Tricks

Tizoc using his big boot attack in Fatal Fury City of the Wolves.

Ultimately, Tizoc is a pretty straightforward character. Your main objective is to get up close to grab your opponents. When you’re right next to them, feel free to use your Justice Hurricane (➡️↘️⬇️↙️⬅️↖️⬆️ LP/HP). The challenge, however, is closing that distance. You can launch yourself forward using Poseidon Wave (⬇️↙️⬅️ LP/HP), but be cautious not to be too predictable. Fortunately, if you hit the enemy, you can cancel it to lessen the risk if they block it, and you can also feint to bait a reversal attack.

In mid-range, Tizoc’s Artemis Rex (⬇️↘️➡️ + LK/HK) is your go-to grab. While the LK and HK versions aren’t particularly fast, the REV version can be a real headache for opponents to deal with.

Once you get close, be prepared for opponents to jump to avoid being thrown. Tizoc excels at punishing aerial opponents with the REV version of Olympus Over (⬇️↙️⬅️ LK/HK). Cancel the second hit into Icarus Crash (⬇️↘️➡️LP/HP) to inflict a significant chunk of health with a single anti-air move. It’s extremely effective!

If you’re feeling overwhelmed and can’t pull off the Olympus Over in time, Tizoc’s Cr. HP is a solid anti-air option.

After landing his LP Icarus Crash, Tizoc can always set up a Safe Jump. So, if you want to play mind games, you can trade a bit of damage for a safe jump setup by opting for the LP version instead of the HP.

  • Fury Unleashed: The Howling City Saga

Fury Unleashed: The Howling City Saga

The complete launch of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves conceals numerous hidden bosses, including Fallen Rock, a sinister version of Rock Howard. This iteration of Rock has been tainted by his overheated blood and the Jin scrolls, causing him to morph into a shadow of his father, Geese. With a combination of Geese’s might and Rock’s agility, this boss is not only challenging to find but even tougher to defeat.

Fans of SNK games know that tough bosses are a staple, as anyone who has squared off against Omega Rugal in the arcade King of Fighters titles can attest. While Fallen Rock might not be as prohibitively difficult as some past SNK adversaries, he still offers a demanding challenge compared to many characters. You will likely need to to maximize your skills and be prepared to take down Fallen Rock.

    Where to Locate Fallen Rock

Explore Arcade Mode or Episodes of South Town

You can discover Fallen Rock as a boss in two specific locations:

    • In East Island while exploring South Town during Episodes of South Town mode.
    • As a boss for certain characters in the final battle of Arcade mode.

Episodes of South Town is a solo RPG mode that allows you to gain XP for a character while investigating different regions of the notorious City of the Wolves. Within this mode, you face off against various fighters under unique conditions, working towards exploration goals across city sections. Occasionally, the last encounter in an area will be against a boss, often with mechanics that differ from what you might be accustomed to.

The Episodes of South Town mode in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is reminiscent of Street Fighter 6‘s World Tour mode, functioning as single-player content where you grow your character’s level by defeating rival fighters.

Fallen Rock, along with a resurrected form of his father called Nightmare Geese, is among the secret bosses lurking in the South Town area. Fallen Rock appears as a Level 80 adversary in the East Island section of Episodes of South Town, making him one of the most formidable opponents you can encounter.

In addition, Fallen Rock is a boss you may encounter at the conclusion of certain Arcade mode character paths. For specific characters, Fallen Rock serves as the final obstacle, but this isn’t the case for everyone. To face Fallen Rock at the end, you must select one of the following characters:

    • Rock Howard
    • Terry Bogard
    • Preecha
    • Mai Shiranui
    • Kevin Rian
    • Billy Kane

Other characters will conclude their journeys against different opponents in Arcade mode, meaning the Episodes of South Town is your best shot if you want to battle the boss. For instance, B. Jenet’s Arcade mode quest culminates with her fighting Kain rather than Fallen Rock or Nightmare Geese.

    Strategies to Defeat Fallen Rock

Expect Variable Difficulty Based on the Mode

Fallen Rock’s difficulty can change significantly depending on the mode you face him in. In Episodes of South Town, he has a noticeably stronger variant than in the Arcade mode, so you should aim to be at least Level 90 before challenging him.

Fallen Rock is distinct in the Episodes of South Town mode since his entire health bar is built around S.P.G. This grants him access to special moves, including a Hidden Gear attack, throughout rounds rather than just at lower vitality levels.

Regardless of where you confront Fallen Rock, his move set largely mirrors that of Geese Howard from earlier games. Some of his maneuvers derive from Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters, such as Geese’s powerful Reppu Ken projectile. Fallen Rock has parries to thwart your physical strikes, aerial projectiles, a command grab, and even a move that yanks your character closer to him.

Fallen Rock doesn’t possess a complete moveset, resulting in limited combo potential. This makes finding openings easier, as the secret boss doesn’t defend as frequently as a human player. Whether you’re playing as Terry or Ronaldo in Fatal Fury: CotW, one effective tactic against Fallen Rock is to jump towards him; the boss lacks robust anti-air options.

Eventually, you will conquer Fallen Rock through practice and a bit of luck. Doing so rewards you with plenty of XP for your character in Episodes of South Town. Additionally, defeating him in Arcade mode concludes the story arcs for certain characters, wrapping up narratives that have spanned over 25 years.

  • Completing Salvatore Ganacci in Fatal Fury: City of Wolves

Completing Salvatore Ganacci in Fatal Fury: City of Wolves

With the launch of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, players can bring their fantasies to life by battling as their favorite DJ, Salvatore Ganacci. I definitely recognized his name before he was announced for the game, I assure you! Despite being a notably unusual addition to the roster, Salvatore brings a distinctive flair to the fighting scene.

Ganacci not only boasts some impressive aerial attacks, but his unique set of moves makes him an unpredictable opponent. In this guide, we’ll break down his skills and help you master this eccentric character. Soon enough, you’ll be outmaneuvering your foes!

    Overview of Salvatore Ganacci

Salvatore Ganacci stands out as the quirkiest character in the City of the Wolves lineup. His unconventional attacks make him a tougher opponent to predict. While he has some interesting grounded moves, his aerial abilities are where he really shines.

His j.LK floats him slightly and hits multiple times, which is great for disrupting your opponent’s rhythm and dodging projectiles. His j.HP, on the other hand, is a spinning move that brings him down quickly. If you time Salvatore’s j.HP just right, by executing it half a character’s width away from your foe, it can serve as an effective cross-up. This can lead to some high-damage opportunities if you catch your opponent off guard.

Furthermore, Salvatore has solid anti-air moves. His f.HP is especially effective at knocking opponents from the air, and will typically strike twice. His special move, Sky’s Beat (⬇️↘️➡️ LP/HP), functions well as an anti-air as well, allowing for follow-ups.

Salvatore features three unique moves that allow for several follow-ups. His Amazing Run (⬇️↙️⬅️ LP/HP) can lead into quick overhead or trip attacks. The follow-up, You Can’t Stop Me! (HK while the Amazing Run special is active), is a swift sweep that can catch opponents by surprise; just remember it’s very punishable if blocked, so use it wisely.

Make sure to utilize Salvatore’s f.HP and f.HK normals effectively. His f.HP deals two hits and sets up significant damage potential, while his f.HK serves as a solid poke option.

In summation, Ganacci excels by keeping his opponents guessing with a diverse assortment of unconventional moves. Although he might be one of the trickier characters to master, he has many effective tools at his disposal, particularly in the air, allowing him to close the distance with ease.

    Salvatore Ganacci Combos

Salvatore Ganacci employing the REV version of his run attack in Fatal Fury City of the Wolves.

When it comes to combos, Salvatore has several powerful techniques at his disposal. For example, his standing f.HP hits twice, with the second hit capable of canceling into his BFAF super (⬇️↘️➡️, ⬇️↘️➡️ LK) or his Hidden Gear super, Ultimate Beat: II Salvatore (⬇️↘️➡️, ⬇️↘️➡️ REV). Additionally, if you score a counter hit with his HP or HK aerial attacks, you can directly link into his Cr. HP, which can be canceled into almost any of his special moves.

Keep in mind that his Sky’s Beat special (⬇️↘️➡️ LP/HP) can seamlessly connect into either of his supers if you use the REV version and immediately follow it up with the Descend action (LK after Sky Beat). With these strategies in your toolkit, you’ll be optimizing Salvatore Ganacci’s combos in no time!

    Combos for Salvatore Ganacci

This combo is simple yet effective, chipping away more than a third of your opponent’s health.

    Salvatore Ganacci Tips and Tricks

Salvatore Ganacci staring at the player while punching Terry in Fatal Fury City of the Wolves.

First, you’ll want to utilize Ganacci’s j.HP and j.HK consistently. Aim to execute them close to the ground. Use j.HK from a distance and j.HP up close, focusing on landing cross-ups. Look for counter hits; successfully landing one allows you to combo into Cr.HP, which can initiate any of your special attacks.

If you notice your opponent frequently jumping, try to land Sky’s Beat (⬇️↘️➡️ LP/HP). If successful, drop to the ground by pressing LK and follow up with a kick super or your Hidden Gear super (when in S.P.G mode).

The true strength of Salvatore lies in his Oki mix-ups. Specifically, you can use Magical Step (➡️ LP + HP) to transition into an overhead attack, For You! (➡️HP from Magical Step). Delivering this move against a downed opponent will put you in a dominating position, especially if your foe is already wary of low attacks after landing his Amazing Run (⬇️↙️⬅️ LP/HP) followed by You Can’t Stop Me! (HK while using the Amazing Run attack).

Maintain pressure, control your ground using his aerial attacks, and apply his potent Oki tactics, and you should find yourself raising your arm in victory more often than not!

  • Completing More Patterns in Fatal Fury: City Of The Wolves

Completing More Patterns in Fatal Fury: City Of The Wolves

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves has finally arrived, marking the first sequel to Mark of the Wolves in 26 years. Despite the long break, this series continues to excel in character and player expression, offering a range of defensive options that enhance the game’s balance and excitement in every match.

One of the standout new features is the Color Edit mode. This allows players to customize the look of each character by changing colors, designs, and more, giving players a chance to personalize their gameplay like never before!

    What Is Color Edit?

In Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, the Color Edit mode gives you the ability to modify the color of your fighters’ hair, outfits, and accessories, and to add unique design patterns to specific clothing items. This opens up even more creative possibilities for expressing yourself in battles.

You start with access to 40 design patterns, each of which comes with a variety of color options. While 40 patterns is substantial, you can actually increase this by an additional 32 patterns, bringing the total up to 72. However, unlocking these additional patterns will require a significant time commitment on your part. It may not be particularly difficult, but it will be very time-intensive. The most sought-after patterns are those you need to unlock, which adds to the excitement for players who love customization.

How to Unlock More Design Patterns

To unlock extra design patterns, you’ll need to play through the single-player mode known as Episodes of South Town in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. While this might sound simple, certain aspects make it more challenging and time-consuming than you might think.

Firstly, each character can unlock two additional design patterns. However, these won’t be available until you advance to the South Town+ Map. This map essentially serves as a new game plus version, meaning you have to complete the normal mode first to access these unique patterns.

Moreover, these patterns can only be unlocked in the last two regions of South Town+, requiring considerable gameplay to obtain them, specifically through levels 69 and 90!

    Design Pattern Unlock Guide

Here’s a quick overview of how the design patterns are unlocked based on character progress:

    Pattern Unlock Region Requirements
Additional Design Pattern #1 Second South During South Town+
Additional Design Pattern #2 East Island During South Town+

As you can see, gaining these unique design patterns means you’ll need to put in some serious work. But there’s good news: if you unlock a design pattern with one character, it can be used with any other character in the game. This makes it worthwhile to pursue unlocking all the patterns.

You might wonder why there appear to be two design patterns missing from the total since there are 17 characters available at launch. The reason is that Christiano Ronaldo does not have access to the Episodes of South Town mode, so his patterns cannot be unlocked.

Here’s a list of characters and their corresponding unlockable design patterns:

  • Completing Kain R. Heinlein’s Journey in Fatal Fury: City of Wolves

Completing Kain R. Heinlein’s Journey in Fatal Fury: City of Wolves

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves has finally arrived, and it picks up two years after the events of Mark of the Wolves. This new installment brings a host of exciting updates, including fresh system mechanics and new characters. You’ll also encounter some familiar faces, like Kain R. Heinlein, who you might recall as the final boss from MotW.

Kain is an incredibly strong character who harnesses Dark Void Arts to dominate his rivals. His abilities make him quite versatile, allowing him to control space and punish opponents when they make mistakes, resulting in significant damage. If you’re searching for a character that excels in zoning, Kain is arguably your best option!

    Overview of Kain R. Heinlein

Kain R. Heinlein stands out as one of the premier zoners in this game. His projectiles can effectively keep enemies at a distance and create set-ups for okizeme—situations designed to pressure opponents as they recover, making escape difficult. In close quarters, he also has powerful options that lead into devastating combos.

A notable aspect of Kain’s gameplay is his streamlined Command List. This makes him relatively simple to pick up and play, especially for newcomers, as long as you’re comfortable with charge inputs. His ability to control the flow of battle and keep opponents at bay is both satisfying and rewarding, although mastering it can be tricky due to the strong emphasis on movement and defense in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.

Though Kain’s kit is beginner-friendly, his playstyle might be challenging if you aren’t accustomed to zoning. He can play aggressively as well, but he really shines when using projectiles to command space. This sets the stage for punishing your opponent for their mistakes and transitioning into pressure with effective okizeme options!

    Kain R. Heinlein Command List

Now that we’ve covered Kain’s playstyle, let’s take a look at his Command List, highlighting the essential moves that enable his formidable offensive capabilities. While he may not have as many moves as other characters, the ones he does possess are powerful and comprehensive. Kain tends to focus on zoning, but he can hold his own in any situation, making him a well-rounded fighter.

Kain has an arsenal of devastating combos that can open up enemies, making sense of his limited move list. Here are some sample combos to get you started, but feel free to explore and create your own combinations!

Tips and Tricks for Kain R. Heinlein

Finally, here are some strategies for mastering Kain’s gameplay. His ability to apply pressure on wake-up—known as okizeme—truly showcases his strength. After knocking an opponent down, he can trap them as they recover, allowing him to take control of the match.

For instance, after throwing your opponent, you might use Schwarzes Rondo (⬇️↙️⬅️ LP/HP) to place an orb behind them, then dash forward to initiate pressure. With the orb behind them, their options become limited, letting you choose from various attacks, leading to possible combos with Schwarze Flamme (⬇️↘️➡️ LP/HP) for significant damage.

This strategy can also apply after successful combos, reinforcing Kain’s reputation as a master of okizeme. By placing orbs strategically, he can control the battlefield and create overwhelming pressure. Once you find your rhythm with Kain, you’ll see his capabilities as a fighter shine through, making him a character worth exploring in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.

  • Completing Mai Shiranui in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

Completing Mai Shiranui in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves has finally dropped, marking the return of the series after a lengthy 26-year break. The game introduces numerous systems, yet its fundamental gameplay remains familiar to fans of earlier titles. Character designs are improved, making them more exciting to play.

Take Mai Shiranui, for example. Leveraging her family’s Shiranui-style Ninjutsu, she skillfully gains the upper hand in battles, fully utilizing the unique systems and mechanics in City of the Wolves to unleash impressive and devastating combos!

    Overview of Mai Shiranui

Mai Shiranui stands out as a formidable fighter in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. She possesses multiple tactics to control the space around her, enabling her to keep opponents at bay while she prepares her attacks. Although mastering her can be challenging—especially for newcomers—she truly shines once you get used to her play style.

Like all characters in the game, Mai showcases a wealth of player and character expression, evident in the intricate combos she can perform. However, her effectiveness relies on precise timing during those combos, making her a bit tricky for those who are not yet familiar with the game’s Brake and Feint systems.

With various techniques at her disposal, she can set frame traps and consistently place herself in advantageous positions with proper spacing and timing. Additionally, Mai boasts excellent anti-air abilities and can string together combos from counter hits, making her incredibly capable at virtually any range.

In summary, if you seek a character with a high skill ceiling and a plethora of complex combos, Mai is an ideal choice. While she may demand some dedication to understand, the sense of satisfaction and improvement you gain from playing her is well worth it.

    Mai Shiranui’s Command List

Now, let’s take a look at Mai’s Command List, which highlights her extensive combat capabilities. She has numerous unique moves that, when used effectively in conjunction with each other, can turn the tide of battle. Tips and Tricks for Playing as Mai

Mai Shiranui’s array of moves and combos may seem daunting but can be incredibly rewarding with dedication. She requires a solid understanding of frame traps, allowing her to trigger massive combos when she strikes an opponent. Her c.HK (FE) > c.HP combination often serves as an ideal frame trap since c.HP is a two-hit attack, giving players a chance to launch a special move to initiate a combo.

Moreover, she has multiple ways to knock opponents into the air, setting them up for further combinations. For instance, landing a Counter Hit with her Light Ryuuenbu will send opponents soaring, providing opportunities for follow-up hits. Similarly, her Heavy Hana Arashi can be utilized effectively against opponents leaping in, enabling her to capitalize on their attacks and execute combos after a successful hit.

In conclusion, Mai Shiranui is not only a complex yet rewarding character in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, but she also presents a host of opportunities for players willing to invest the time to learn her skills!
