New Natural Spray Promises to Freshen Dogs’ Breath

Many dog owners cherish their pets but often struggle with one common issue: bad breath. While unpleasant, foul dog breath can also signal underlying oral health problems and the presence of harmful bacteria in the mouth. Veterinarians typically recommend daily brushing, antibiotics, or chemical mouth rinses to tackle the issue, but solutions can sometimes be invasive or chemical-based.

Recently, scientists may have identified a more natural and straightforward alternative that involves an unexpected ingredient: sugarcane molasses. A new study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry describes a plant-based mouth spray made from polyphenols extracted from molasses, the thick syrup remaining after sugar extraction. The researchers discovered that this spray significantly diminished bad breath and suppressed harmful bacteria in a dog’s mouth.

Led by Hongye Li, the research team aimed to determine if an agricultural by-product could be transformed into a safe, sustainable oral health treatment for pets. Prior studies by the group showed that sugarcane molasses contains polyphenols—compounds capable of curbing harmful bacteria growth in laboratory settings.

To test its effectiveness in real animals, the researchers recruited ten healthy dogs with noticeable bad breath. With owners’ consent, they applied the molasses-based spray into each dog’s mouth and collected saliva samples to observe changes in breath odor.

The results were impressive. Just one hour after application, trained evaluators reported that the dogs’ bad breath had nearly disappeared. Laboratory analyses confirmed that several foul-smelling chemicals—esters, amines, and aldehydes—became undetectable in the saliva, compounds often associated with unpleasant odors.

Importantly, the spray didn’t just mask odors with artificial scents. According to Li, the spray has a mild, natural aroma reminiscent of plants and molasses that is not unpleasant. Scientific testing revealed it actually reduced the levels of odor-causing chemicals inside the mouth.

Further testing involved daily use of the spray over 30 days. By the end of the trial, dogs’ saliva showed a marked reduction in odor-producing compounds. Their oral microbiomes—the bacterial communities living in the mouth—also underwent significant shifts. Notably, bacteria associated with bad breath, such as Porphyromonas and Fusobacterium, decreased substantially.

The team believes the spray operates through multiple mechanisms. Li compared it to a sponge, a switch, and a gardener. Polyphenols absorb and neutralize odorous molecules like a sponge, block bacterial activities that generate foul smells, and gradually diminish populations of harmful bacteria, much like a gardener removing weeds.

With hopes of becoming a natural, safe, and eco-friendly option, the scientists envision this spray improving pet oral health and making cuddling dogs a more pleasant experience for families.

You will also need to exchange a Hobby Expansion Ticket to unlock the Dog Caring hobby. Keep in mind, you must have unlocked all other hobbies, including Cat Caring, first.

    How to Adopt a Dog
At the adoption center, you’ll see three dogs and three cats available each day. The selection refreshes daily, so if you don’t find a dog you like, you can come back later.

When you see a dog you want, approach them and offer to adopt. You will pay 500 gold to cover a health check. After the exam, you can name your new pet and take them home! Be sure to visit Mrs. Joan regularly to buy food and accessories for your dog.

    • Energetic: Very active and loves to play.
    • Indifferent: No strong preferences.

Each breed also has its own look, with various fur patterns and mudding eyes, making every dog unique.

Building a Bond with Your Dog
Once your dog is home, you can play with them frequently. Your watch’s Pet app lets you monitor each dog’s hunger and energy levels. To feed them, tap on the food bowl icon and use dog food or snacks from your inventory to keep their hunger up.

Training is another key part of bonding. Select the train option and teach your dog tricks like “Seek Treasure,” “Shake Head,” or “Give Paw.” As you level up, you’ll unlock more commands.

To earn stars in the Doggie Time Collection, watch your dog perform tricks and praise or reprimand their actions accordingly. Taking good care of your dog will unlock new rewards such as costumes and currency. Snap a picture of your dog in the pose to add to your journal.

When your dog gets dirty, you can give them a bath using the Pet Wash feature. This involves pressing the tub at each cleaning stage—wash, rinse, dry—to clean your dog safely. When they’re clean, you’ll get a notification.

You can also take your dog out in the town by choosing the “Go Out” option. Keep in mind, dogs can only walk so fast, and if you get too far away, they’ll return home, ending the walk. Use this feature to explore or visit friends with your pet.

As your bond grows, your dogs are more likely to bring you gifts.

    Dog Caring Hobby Skills
Raising your skill level in Dog Caring is simple: just feed, play with, and care for your dog daily. You’ll earn points for your interactions and can use Hobby Upgrade Tickets to level up.

    Important Note:
Currently, there’s no option to return a dog to the shelter or trade it for another breed, so choose carefully when adopting.

  • How To Free The Dog in Jova in Hell by Completing and Solving

How To Free The Dog in Jova in Hell by Completing and Solving

Refugees are everywhere in Hell Is Us. With religious conflicts turning into a full-blown civil war, most people in Hadea have lost their homes and comfort. From towns occupied by enemies and cities under attack, to remote camps and families forced to leave loved ones behind, the situation is brutal.

In the Vyssa Hills, you’ll find a refugee camp where an elderly couple is especially upset about leaving their dog behind when they fled from Jova. They can’t go back, and they’ll never see their dog again. Luckily, returning to Jova isn’t difficult, so it’s best for you to head back there.

How to Start The Man’s Best Friend Good Deed

While meeting the dog Max for the first time at the Vyssa Hills camp, this isn’t where the good deed begins. If you learn about Max from the Vosh couple before, it’s just background info. You probably can’t do anything about it.

However, in Jova, you can find Max yourself. He’s tied to a post near a house with a fence, past the well that goes beneath the town. A Sabinian soldier is watching him, complaining about Palomists for leaving their dog behind. When you approach Max, you can choose to free him. But the soldier will insist the dog is hers now and won’t let you free him.

This is where the good deed starts—you just need to figure out how to free Max.

    Finding the Dog’s Owners

Before freeing Max, it’s helpful to find his owners, Alban and Esther Vosh, since you’ll need to talk to them eventually. They’re in Vyssa Hills. From Vitalis’ grave, go up the hill by the timeloop, then continue along the path until you find a ladder. Climb it to reach a small camp with five people, including a baby.

There’s not much to do here except talk to Esther and Alban Vosh. They tell you Max is their dog, but you can’t say anything to them directly, and they don’t give you any hints on how to free Max. What’s next?

Note: You can help Atticus move the refugees from Vyssa Hills to Caddell Farm, but Alban and Esther Vosh will stay regardless. This gives you plenty of time to complete this good deed.

Free Max and Return His Collar

Freeing Max is pretty simple—it mostly involves timing. While the soldier is watching over Max, you can’t free him. You have to wait until after Act 1 ends, which happens at Lake Cynon. Once that’s done, the story opens up, and many events in the world change.

For example, Captain Vaas and many soldiers will leave for Patham Abbey to loot it and investigate Palomist secrets. With them gone, the soldier guarding Max also leaves. Now, you can approach Max, free him, and take his collar as proof.

Note: If you haven’t finished the Performance Of A Lifetime Good Deed yet, the musician may have already been killed by Captain Vaas.

After freeing Max, take his collar back to the Vosh camp in Vyssa Hills and give it to Alban Vosh. He’ll be happy to have his dog back and hopes Max finds safety away from Jova. Whether you see Max or the Vosh couple again remains a mystery, but at least you’ve completed this good deed.

Note: If you’ve already met Gildas, you can return to him for a reward for finishing The Man’s Best Friend Good Deed.

How to Feed Your Dog in Tiny Bookshop: Completing and Solving

In Tiny Bookshop, it’s not just customers who might come into your life—sometimes, it’s a dog in need. You may notice a scruffy stray dog hanging around, seemingly waiting for someone to notice. Gaining the trust of this local dog isn’t just about petting him; you’ll need to build a connection and time your actions just right.

This guide will help you through each step of the “Feed the Stray” quest, from spotting the dog for the first time to giving him a permanent home in your small shop. Think of it as the perfect recipe for making a canine friend.

    ### How To Find The Dog
To start the “Feed the Stray” quest in Tiny Bookshop, first, set up your shop at the Waterfront location. Once you’re settled, direct your attention all the way to the far right side of the screen. There, you’ll see the stray dog lingering near the edge of the area. Talk to the dog to begin your first interaction.

At this point, you can’t feed or adopt him yet; it’s just about getting to know him. This sets the stage for what’s to come.

    ### How To Feed The Dog
Building a relationship with the local fisherman at the Waterfront is key to feeding the dog. This takes multiple in-game days, so visit him often and speak with him regularly. Each conversation helps you progress toward unlocking a special quest.

When you’ve talked to him enough, he’ll give you a task to complete. Finish this task by selling books to the fishermen, which will unlock the recurring Fish Market event at the Waterfront.

Keep an eye on your journal or newspaper to see when the Fish Market is scheduled. It only happens after you’ve completed your first month in the game.

When the fish market is open, buy a fish from the fisherman. Keep the fish in your inventory, then go back to the stray dog and interact with him. Now, you’ll be able to feed him.

    ### How To Adopt The Dog
After feeding the dog, a prompt will ask if you want to adopt him. Select “Yes,” and the dog will be added to your inventory. From there, navigate to the decor options and place your new pet inside or outside your shop.

Whenever you put him down, he’ll be there to greet you each time you open your shop, ready for some interaction and companionship.

  • Oscar Winner Gene Hackman, Wife Betsy Arakawa, Dog Found Dead

Oscar Winner Gene Hackman, Wife Betsy Arakawa, Dog Found Dead

Santa Fe: An investigation into the deaths of Gene Hackman, his wife, and their dog has revealed no evidence of foul play, gunshot wounds, or other injuries. Authorities have enlisted the help of a gas company, suggesting they may suspect carbon monoxide poisoning as the cause.

The couple and their dog were discovered deceased during a wellness check on Wednesday at their home in New Mexico, as reported by law enforcement officials on Thursday. While no indications of foul play have surfaced, the exact circumstances of their deaths remain undisclosed as the inquiry continues.

Gene Hackman, aged 95, along with his wife Betsy Arakawa, 63, and their dog, were found lifeless when deputies entered their residence on Wednesday afternoon. Denise Avila, a spokesperson for the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed that there were no signs of shootings or other kinds of injuries.

Regarded as one of the finest actors of his era, Hackman was celebrated for his performances across various genres from the 1960s until his retirement in the early 2000s. He frequently appeared on Hollywood’s lists of the greatest American actors of the 20th century, showcasing his versatility in roles from the iconic villain Lex Luthor in “Superman” to the redemptive coach in the beloved film “Hoosiers.”

A five-time Oscar nominee, Hackman won Academy Awards for his roles in “The French Connection” in 1972 and “Unforgiven” two decades later. His passing comes just days before this year’s Academy Awards ceremony, prompting an outpouring of tributes from colleagues in Hollywood.

Director Francis Ford Coppola expressed his condolences on Instagram, remarking, “The loss of a great artist is always a moment for both sorrow and celebration: Gene Hackman was a magnificent actor, inspiring in his work and rich in complexity.”

Hackman met Arakawa, a pianist trained in classical music who hails from Hawaii, while she was working part-time at a gym in California during the mid-1980s. They soon began living together, relocating to Santa Fe by the end of the decade.

Their home, a Southwestern-style ranch located on Old Sunset Trail, is nestled in a gated community with picturesque views of the Rocky Mountains. Constructed in 2000, the 2,300-square-foot house sits on an acre of land and was valued at slightly over $1 million, according to local property tax records. This is relatively modest compared to the adjacent estate, valued at approximately $7.9 million.

In addition to his acting career, Hackman co-authored three novels, beginning with “Wake of the Perdido Star” in 1999, a collaboration with Daniel Lenihan. He later published two solo works, concluding with “Pursuit” in 2013, which centers around a female police officer chasing a predator.

Throughout his first few decades in New Mexico, Hackman was a familiar sight in the historic capital, a known artist haven and tourist hotspot. He served on the board of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum during the 1990s, as noted by local newspaper, The New Mexican.

In more recent years, his public appearances dwindled, although even his routine outings drew media attention. Reports indicated he attended a performance at the Lensic Performing Arts Center in 2018 and was seen engaging in regular activities like fueling his car, tending to his yard, and enjoying a meal at Wendy’s in 2023.

Despite limited participation in Hollywood’s social scene, Hackman’s retirement from acting around 20 years ago was one of the few in the industry that remained intact.

He had three children from a previous marriage, while he and Arakawa did not have children together but shared a love for German shepherds. In a 2020 interview with Empire magazine, Hackman shared that he and Arakawa enjoyed watching DVDs of low-budget films, appreciating their simple storytelling.

An email sent to his publicist for comment was not returned as of Thursday morning.
