Highguard Team Faces Large-Scale Layoffs, Designer Claims

Just weeks after its launch, Highguard reportedly lost the majority of its staff as it struggled to build a significant playerbase.

Level designer Alex Graner took to LinkedIn to share that he was laid off alongside most of the team at Wildlight Entertainment. He expressed, “This really hurts because I was excited about a lot of unreleased content I and others had designed for Highguard.”

Initially, the free-to-play shooter debuted with a solid peak of 97,000 players on Steam. However, the following day, the player count plummeted, losing around 90% of its audience. Currently, SteamDB shows only about 1,895 players actively playing, with a 24-hour peak of 3,580.

Unlike single-player games, a sharp decline in players just weeks after release is a concerning sign for a free-to-play hero shooter reliant on its community for revenue.

Before entering Steam, Highguard received minimal marketing, with the notable exception of Geoff Keighley. Many argue that Keighley’s involvement—giving the game a final slot at the Game Awards—may have done more harm than good.

Keighley was one of the few gaming journalists actively promoting Highguard on X (formerly Twitter), where he also shared memes joking about accepting “everyone’s apologies” once the game launches. However, after the announcement at the Game Awards, the game’s marketing team fell silent, only resuming the sharing of gameplay videos related to weapons, modes, maps, and heroes just a day before release.

A Reddit reviewer criticized, “I blame Geoff for the pile-on this game is experiencing. It’s fun, but I probably won’t keep playing it. That said, since it’s free, I might get a few more hours out of it.”

Many players have expressed fatigue with the hero shooter genre, noting they’re reluctant to give Highguard a chance given the market’s saturation.

Actress Hande Erçel will be attending multiple shows as a special guest, marking another milestone in her international journey within the fashion industry.

Two of the most esteemed brands, Elie Saab and Valentino, have extended official invitations to her. Her association with Elie Saab has been well recognized for years through red carpet appearances, advertisements, and exclusive fittings. Valentino’s invitation is particularly noteworthy, as it indicates growing confidence from European high-end fashion houses in Erçel. Both brands are staples of Paris Fashion Week, renowned for attracting buyers, celebrities, and media from around the globe.

The star is also planning additional appearances on January 28, which will keep her schedule packed during her stay in Paris. Her team has been organizing meetings, media engagements, and behind-the-scenes preparations throughout the week. While her wardrobe choices remain undisclosed, stylists close to her suggest she is preparing a refined and sophisticated look.

Erçel remains a notable name in the fashion scene, but her acting career is currently on pause. She has yet to secure a confirmed TV show or film project. Recently, rumors linked her to OGM Pictures, but negotiations have not resulted in any final agreements. Over the past few years, she has been selective about her projects, seeking scripts that align with her artistic ambitions and her aim to connect with an international audience.

Recently, she gained widespread attention outside Turkey with her self-written film, İki Dünya Bir Dilek, which she premiered last year. The project not only showcased her acting talents but also sparked interest in her potential future as a writer and director.

For now, Hande Erçel continues to build a career that merges entertainment and fashion on a global scale. Her trip to Paris clarifies that her fame extends beyond television, establishing her as one of the few Turkish celebrities gaining recognition in the cultural arena worldwide.

Digital Phablet – Renowned Italian fashion icon Giorgio Armani, who also led the luxury lifestyle industry, passed away Thursday at the age of 91, peacefully surrounded by loved ones.

“With profound sadness, the Armani Group announces the passing of its founder, creator, and relentless visionary: Giorgio Armani,” they issued in a statement.

Giorgio Armani is widely regarded as one of the most influential designers of our era. He launched his fashion label in Milan in 1975, swiftly establishing himself as a leader in the industry and dressing numerous celebrities.

“Mr. Armani, as he was always respectfully and affectionately called by employees and colleagues, departed peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones,” the statement added.

“He was tireless until the very end, working diligently on his company, collections, and numerous ongoing and upcoming projects,” it continued.

Due to illness, Armani had to cancel this year’s fashion show in Milan and also missed the Paris Armani Privé presentation upon his physician’s advice.

In July, he shared with AFP, “After 20 years of Armani Privé, this is the first time I’ve missed Paris.”

“My doctors recommended more rest, even though I felt prepared,” he explained.

Besides that, he stated, “I observed and approved every detail of the show from afar,” ensuring everyone was aligned with his vision.

He was credited with designing red carpet fashion and creating more affordable clothing lines for younger audiences through Emporio Armani, in addition to launching luxury hotels.

His passing occurred just weeks ahead of a celebration honoring the 50th anniversary of his own record label.

Italy’s Culture Minister, Alessandro Giuli, honored him as “a pivotal figure in Italian culture, who transformed elegance into a universal language.”

“His subtle yet innovative style reshaped the interplay between fashion, film, and society, leaving an enduring mark on contemporary culture,” Giuli remarked.

“He was not only a fashion master but also an ambassador of Italian identity globally.”
