Death Stranding 2 Fans Want Filters for Completing Player Structures

Death Stranding 2 is one of the most visually impressive games out there. The graphics are breathtaking, and many screenshots look like real-life photos. However, one telltale sign you’re looking at a screenshot from Death Stranding 2 is the many ramps and generators in the background.

Since its release, players have raised some concerns about the game. Issues range from vehicle handling to grinding for five-star ratings. A major point of discussion is the increased presence of player-built structures this time. While this could enhance gameplay, it somewhat diminishes the feeling of solitude that many enjoyed in the first game.

Death Stranding 2 Players Are Calling For Filters To Remove Excessive Player Structures

A Reddit user called Mithmorthmin shared on the Death Stranding 2 subreddit (- thanks GamesRadar) an example showing just how cluttered player structures can get. They posted a photo featuring four player structures, a monorail, seven footprints, and two unattended vehicles in one small area. This can be overwhelming for players seeking a more isolated experience.

Mithmorthmin noted they have encountered even worse situations, prompting fans to call for options to limit what appears on screen. User FlibbertyGibberts0 suggested adding a Supply Request toggle in the next update, with others expressing that there are simply too many structures throughout the game.

There is an existing option to reduce the number of structures and signs from other players, but some want signs removed entirely. Playing offline removes these elements completely, but players would prefer more flexible options. A few additional settings might help enhance the visual appeal of Death Stranding 2. Or perhaps we are all simply falling into Kojima’s intended experience of questioning our connections?

Completing Strategies for Surviving Natural Disasters in Death Stranding 2

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is all about exploration, and there’s a lot to explore. However, constant travel can get dull without a bit of excitement, which is where natural disasters come into play.

Natural disasters are impossible to overlook and turn even the most familiar routes into unpredictable challenges. Understanding how these disasters happen and their impacts can help you navigate them, as there’s no way to completely prevent them.

    How Do Natural Disasters Happen?

In the game, natural disasters, as the name suggests, are neither controllable by Sam nor anyone else. They happen randomly, with some exceptions for certain set events. This unpredictability means you must adapt as you go along.

That said, you can prepare yourself somewhat. For instance, Plate Quakes can be particularly destructive if you’re carrying a heavy load, so having a vehicle or a Floating Carrier on standby can help distribute the weight more evenly. Always keep some Container Repair Spray for Timefall, and pack Ladders and Climbing Anchors in case of flooding.

While storms and quakes are mostly random, flooding typically results from other natural events. After a heavy period of Timefall, rivers might overflow based on where and when the rain occurred, so checking the weather can give you a heads-up on potential flooding areas.

Plate Quakes can also cause rivers to overflow, but since predicting a quake is nearly impossible, you won’t be able to anticipate which rivers will flood afterward. Because of this, it’s wise to be as prepared as you can be.

    Types of Natural Disasters

There are several natural disasters you may encounter in the game. Though the list isn’t extensive, each disaster offers unique challenges based on its strength and location.

    Natural Disaster What It Does
Plate Quakes Cause shaking that can knock over small items, dislodge boulders, trigger tar currents, and lead to avalanches.
Flooding Widen rivers and flood other low areas, also making surrounding land slippery.
Wildfires Create ongoing fires in wooded areas and can drop flaming comets from the sky.
Storms Include sandstorms, electric storms, or blizzards, all of which reduce visibility and can damage cargo.

Storms can vary significantly based on the environment, while Plate Quakes affect areas differently depending on local conditions.

How to Survive Each Natural Disaster

Each type of natural disaster in the game comes with its own challenges. Here’s how to handle each one.

    Plate Quakes

Generally, you’ll receive a brief warning before a Plate Quake strikes. These quakes vary in impact based on where you are and their intensity, rated by a scale called Q-Ranks. A higher Q-Rank indicates a stronger quake.

Plate Quakes can also harm structures within their range, and there’s no way to shield against this damage.

If you’re on flat land, Plate Quakes are relatively safe. You may feel some shaking, requiring you to maintain your balance, but if you’re in a vehicle, especially an off-roader, you should be safe.

However, when you’re near hills or mountains, be cautious—boulders may fall, which could injure Sam or damage his cargo. Patience is key; sometimes it’s best to wait out the quake rather than rush ahead.

In snowy mountainous areas, Plate Quakes can trigger avalanches, which become stronger as they descend. Avoiding populated areas during quakes is critical to staying safe.

    Flooding

Flooding is the most common disaster you’ll face, often set off by other natural events. When flooding occurs, rivers become much wider, making ladders and bridges less effective. Low-lying areas previously safe for walking may become inaccessible.

When a flood is imminent, the map will show the affected river highlighted in orange. Flooding is a gradual process, starting slowly and sometimes allowing you to finish deliveries before it becomes severe.

To handle flooding effectively, avoid the bodies of water whenever possible. Flooded rivers are more turbulent, draining stamina much faster than regular ones. A Climbing Anchor can help prevent being swept away if a ladder isn’t sufficient.

    Wildfires

Although wildfires are rarer, they can be incredibly challenging to manage. They occur in dense forest areas and can produce ‘Chiral Comets’—meteors that exacerbate the spread of fire.

If caught in a wildfire, immediately create an escape route. Do not attempt to collect cargo, as you risk getting trapped by the flames. Vehicles are also vulnerable to fire; Sam jumps out if they catch fire.

Tar Cannons can help suppress fires, but only use them when absolutely necessary. Running from a wildfire is often the safest option as it will spread faster than you can extinguish it.

    Storms

Storms vary greatly and include sandstorms, lightning storms, and blizzards. All of them are characterized by strong winds, but each has its particular challenges.

Sandstorms are your first experience with storms; they produce fierce winds that push Sam but can be navigated by taking shelter behind buildings. Visibility becomes severely reduced, so it’s better to rely on markers than sight.

Lightning storms typically occur during heavy Timefall. Though they won’t drastically reduce visibility like sandstorms, they do bring lightning strikes. The safest course is to stay mobile or seek shelter.

Blizzards resemble sandstorms in that they dramatically cut visibility and feature intense winds, but they also include snowy conditions that can harm your cargo. When caught in the mountains, shelter is your best defense.

Understanding these disasters in Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is crucial for navigating the game’s dynamic world, allowing you to deliver cargo successfully while facing unexpected challenges.

  • Completing the Harmonica Puzzle in Death Stranding 2

Completing the Harmonica Puzzle in Death Stranding 2

In Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, much of the gameplay unfolds in silence. Sam often finds himself alone, accompanied only by his thoughts, the wind’s whispers, and occasional comments from Dollman. Outside the Chiral Network, the only music you’ll hear is during specific scripted moments.

However, it doesn’t have to stay that way. Sam can also create his own music using a familiar instrument—the harmonica. This item returns from the original game and lets Sam play his own tunes, albeit in a less polished manner. Here’s a guide on how to obtain the harmonica and what it can do.

When Can You Access the Harmonica?

Unlocking the harmonica is straightforward. You might even have it without realizing it. Most players stumble upon it while searching for the music player from the Musician prepper. Although he’s a key figure, he doesn’t actually hand over the harmonica.

In fact, you don’t receive it in a typical fashion; it simply appears in Sam’s inventory. The harmonica is automatically added to his headwear options after arriving in Australia post-Main Order No. 8. Dollman may mention this after some walking, especially during breaks, but since the early sections of Australia have numerous BTs, many players overlook it.

Don’t worry—you won’t have to forgo wearing a hat to use the harmonica.

    How to Use the Harmonica

Using the harmonica is as easy as in the first game. Simply access Sam’s headwear during gameplay and equip it. You can do this without removing any other headwear items.

Important to Note: You can only equip the harmonica from the menu during gameplay and not from sinks in the Magellan or Private Rooms.

Once it’s equipped, the only way to play it is by resting. While resting, press the right side of the touchpad to hear Sam play. This action replaces his ability to shout out to signs or other characters while taking a break.

Each time you press the button, Sam plays a short tune—not a curated playlist, but genuine music that comes straight from the heart.

    What Does the Harmonica Do?

So, what’s the harmonica’s purpose? In the original game, it provided music in moments when the soundtrack was otherwise sparse. With Death Stranding 2 offering a music player for custom playlists, the harmonica might seem less essential now.

In many ways, it is redundant—especially for long travels outside the Chiral Network. However, it still serves one important function that the music player lacks.

Lou loves the harmonica. Playing it while resting helps lift Lou’s spirits, earning you a few likes. Additionally, since Lou enjoys the harmonica’s sound, you’ll receive even more likes. So, if Lou needs cheering up during a tough journey, take out that harmonica and play a few tunes!

  • Completing Death Stranding 2: Players Find Solving Through Walking Beckons

Completing Death Stranding 2: Players Find Solving Through Walking Beckons

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach gives you various options for getting around and delivering important cargo. While walking is the most basic method, you can also use vehicles, ziplines, monorails, hoverboards, and fast travel with the DHV Magellan.

So, what’s the best way to navigate this world? Although Death Stranding 2’s map makes it easy to drive a trike or truck, some players choose not to use vehicles. Hardcore porters like to carry everything on their backs and traverse the land on foot, while others enjoy taking advantage of every tool available to them.

What’s The Best Way To Travel In Death Stranding 2?

While some believe that fast traveling in open-world games takes away from exploration, many prefer completing quests quickly. When MadHanini asked on Reddit if they were playing the game the right way by driving everywhere, opinions were mixed on the correct approach to Death Stranding 2.

“Am I playing wrong?” they asked. “I only travel by car. I’ve never used a zipline, never skated, never used a tractor, and rarely walk. All I do is drive.” Personally, I like to use trucks too, especially after getting the grappling hook that helps pull in stray cargo. My character doesn’t touch the ground unless delivering items to a terminal.

Although many players prefer the same style as MadHanini and me, a significant number enjoy walking. One player commented, “I noticed that walking seems to be the main gameplay style. When I took a cruiser and music started playing while the camera zoomed out towards the objective, it felt like I was doing it ‘wrong’ according to Kojima’s vision.”

Another player mentioned, “I usually drive, but I do walk during main missions because I love the atmosphere. You miss many intense moments if you just drive.” Despite this, it’s important to remember that having tools doesn’t mean you have to use them.

A top comment captured a good point: “There’s no right way to play. The question is, are you playing in a way that works for you?” So if walking feels better for you, go for it. If you prefer zooming around in a truck, that’s fine too. Hideo Kojima isn’t judging you.

  • Completing Road Repairs in Death Stranding 2: A Guide to Solving Issues

Completing Road Repairs in Death Stranding 2: A Guide to Solving Issues

In the original *Death Stranding*, one of the most significant tasks was rebuilding the various roads and highways across America. This made delivering packages much more manageable, especially when using vehicles. In *Death Stranding 2: On The Beach*, roads are making a comeback.

While not much has changed about their function, roads are still crucial for gameplay. You’ll need to keep in mind several details related to them as you embark on your journey. Here’s everything you should be aware of.

    What Do Roads Do?

Roads are meant for driving, but you can also run on them. They are particularly helpful for vehicle navigation across the landscape, especially in more accessible regions. However, they are primarily found in Australia, with Mexico serving as a tutorial area that lacks any repairable roads. You will need to rely on footpaths for those regions.

Once a road is repaired, it follows a fixed path. You won’t have the option to decide where it goes or its endpoints. You’re restoring existing roads instead of creating new ones, and these roads typically link major areas of the country, including cities and distribution hubs. They also feature a central strip that prevents battery drainage, allowing you to travel the length of the road without using any power.

    How To Repair Roads

Repairing roads is straightforward, but the process can vary depending on whether the road segment is part of the Chiral Network. To repair a road, you first need to locate its auto-paver, which are found in specific locations throughout Australia. Once you find one, locating the others becomes easier by following the trail of the roads.

Once you find an auto-paver, it will remain marked on your map permanently.

After identifying an auto-paver, simply approach it and deposit the necessary materials, which typically include varying amounts of Chiral Crystals, Metals, and Ceramics. Once you provide all the required materials, the road will be restored instantly, connecting seamlessly with nearby sections.

However, be cautious before you start the repair. Any structures in the way will be destroyed, and you will lose items within those structures. Some likes will be granted as compensation, but that’s all you will receive. Make sure there’s nothing obstructing the repair area; anything where a road would be constructed will be highlighted in orange as a warning.

Regarding the Chiral Network, auto-pavers work locally, meaning they don’t need to be connected to the network to function. You can technically build roads across Australia even before you’ve linked them with the network, although it would be costly in resources.

If you wait until your materials are deposited while the auto-paver is in the Chiral Network, other players can also contribute to the road restoration, significantly easing your resource load. This means a road might be completed even without your direct involvement. So, consider building roads only as needed—you may find them finished by the time you arrive.

Keep in mind that the amount of materials you contribute affects how many likes you receive from players using that road, helping to improve your Bridge Link Porter Grade.

Do You Need To Maintain Roads?

In short, yes, but not really. Like all constructions in *Death Stranding 2*, roads can degrade over time due to usage, environmental changes, or Timefall. Although this degradation is gradual, it still occurs. Fortunately, the road remains functional until it completely loses its durability, allowing you ample time to use and repair it.

To repair a road, just locate the appropriate auto-paver and provide the same materials used for its original construction. The amount needed for repairs reduces as the road sustains less damage. This durability system is shared across all worlds where the road appears, so you aren’t carrying the burden by yourself.

This is why you don’t need to worry about road maintenance. While many players may use the same road, it only takes one person to repair it with some Chiral Crystals. Whether that person is you or a kind stranger, road deterioration occurs slowly, making it a minor concern as long as a few players are consistently contributing materials.

If a road does become completely destroyed, it will need to be rebuilt from scratch.

    Are Roads Or Monorails Better?

Roads are a beloved feature returning from the original *Death Stranding*, but the sequel introduces a new mode of transport: monorails.

Like real-life monorails, they follow a designated path to specific destinations. While roads also have fixed routes, they offer you the flexibility to turn off and explore at any time. Monorails, on the other hand, require you to adhere strictly to their route between stations.

There are two ways to use monorails. You can either board from any station to transport cargo and vehicles, or you can jump off at any point along the route, although your cargo will continue to its destination. While faster than roads, this method doesn’t provide the same advantages if you need to get somewhere not directly along the route.

Additionally, you can access monorails from any repaired segment in the world, allowing you to connect quickly to different areas. However, you’re restricted from dropping off unless you’re very close to the ground, adding further limitations.

In summary, roads are slower and require vehicles to maximize speed, but they allow you to change directions whenever you want. Monorails are faster but come with more restrictions on where you can go. Both transport types coexist, emphasizing that multiple transport options are the future in *Death Stranding 2*.

  • Top Preppers to Complete First in Death Stranding 2

Top Preppers to Complete First in Death Stranding 2

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach – Connecting with Preppers

In Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, just like in its predecessor, you’ll encounter many Preppers. These are solitary survivors dispersed throughout the landscape, each focused on their own survival and the items they’ve gathered during their isolation. Your mission is to link them all to the Chiral Network.

You’ll meet a significant number of these Preppers during your journey, but some will require extra effort to find and connect. Prioritizing your connection with specific Preppers early on can be beneficial, as they provide Sam with valuable tools and abilities.

It’s worth noting that not every location, such as cities and distribution centers, counts as a Prepper. However, for ease of discussion, we’ll include them here.

Which Preppers Should You Connect With First?

As you progress through the game, you’ll encounter various Preppers, cities, and distribution centers across the map. Since your ultimate goal is to connect Australia to the Chiral Network, you’ll inevitably meet most of them through the storyline. However, some locations might not prompt you to visit, so it’s helpful to be aware of them.

In Mexico, every Prepper must be connected as part of the narrative, ensuring you meet them all. Australia, on the other hand, has many Preppers that might be missed unless you actively seek them out. Up until you connect with West Fort Knot, there’s just one optional Prepper available, but many more will become accessible as you head north.

Keep in mind that not all Preppers will have orders with one another to facilitate connection to the Chiral Network. You’ll often need to locate and deliver their Lost Cargo.

The Best Preppers to Level Up Early

Some crucial Preppers can be met early in the game, and most will be involved in the story. Yet, it’s easy to overlook them later and not return to boost their Connection Level. The rewards you receive at later levels are incredibly beneficial.

    La Madre/Villa Libre

La Madre is the second Prepper you encounter in the game, introduced as part of the main story. After you meet her, she will join the Chiral Network, providing you with the PCC blueprint to construct your own structures. However, the benefits don’t stop there.

    • Connection Level 1: PCC Level 1
    • Connection Level 2: Custom Electric Rod
    • Connection Level 3: Custom High-Voltage Rod
    • Connection Level 4: Custom Twin Rod
    • Connection Level 5: La Madre Hologram, Chiral Rodent Backpack Patch

The Electric Rod, given at Connection Level 2, is a potent melee weapon and ranged tool. By Connection Level 4, you unlock the Custom Twin Rod, which functions similarly but enhances melee attacks. Sam’s speed and attack options increase significantly with this upgrade.

    Old Oz/The Government

Old Oz is the first Prepper you’ll meet upon arriving in Australia, representing a fragment of the Australian government striving to rebuild. His rewards focus on arming Sam against the chaos around him.

    • Connection Level 1: Bola Gun
    • Connection Level 2: Antigravity Device
    • Connection Level 3: Large Spare Ammo Container Level 1
    • Connection Level 4: Large Spare Ammo Container Level 2
    • Connection Level 5: Old Oz Hologram, Australian Cryptobiote Backpack Patch

The Bola Gun allows you to silently restrain enemies, while the Antigravity Device lessens the weight of your overall cargo. Investing in these early rewards is advisable for better durability during dangerous encounters.

    Peter Gates/Western Environmental Observatory

Peter Gates, stationed at the Western Environmental Observatory, is the next significant character you’ll encounter. Before you can connect with him, you’ll need to clear out some enemies. Once you restore the facility, he will reward you with powerful items.

    • Connection Level 1: Battle Skeleton Level 1, MP Grenade Pistol
    • Connection Level 2: Electric Shock Absorber
    • Connection Level 3: Battle Skeleton Level 2
    • Connection Level 4: Battle Skeleton Level 3
    • Connection Level 5: Peter Gates Hologram, Pickup Off-Roader Backpack Patch

The Battle Skeleton grants Sam increased running speed and a higher carrying capacity, which is especially useful for daunting deliveries.

    The Lone Commander

The Lone Commander is the first optional Prepper you can connect with, following a Sub Order from Old Oz. After completing his Missions, he will agree to join the Chiral Network.

    • Connection Level 1: Tranquilizer Sniper Rifle
    • Connection Level 2: Smoke Grenade
    • Connection Level 3: Silent Tranquilizer Handgun
    • Connection Level 4: Lightweight Tranquilizer Sniper Rifle
    • Connection Level 5: Silent Lightweight Tranquilizer Sniper Rifle, The Lone Commander Hologram

He provides various tranquilizer weapons, which are excellent for players interested in a non-lethal approach.

Should You Max Out Every Prepper Right Away?

In short, it’s not necessary to max out every Prepper immediately. The initial levels are relatively easy, but reaching levels four and five will consume more time and effort. Focus on a few key Preppers instead of constantly traveling back and forth.

Standard Orders are the primary method to increase Connection Levels, but they come with cooldowns. Strategically planning your deliveries alongside story progression is a more efficient use of your time. Remember, Preppers aren’t going anywhere, and you’ll always have people in need of a porter.

However, there is an APAS enhancement that reduces the downtime for Standard Orders, which can help streamline the process.

  • Completing New Backpack Components in Death Stranding 2

Completing New Backpack Components in Death Stranding 2

In Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Sam’s backpack is more than just a cargo carrier; it’s his lifeline, alongside baby Lou. With various items, weapons, and tools at his disposal, the backpack remains a steadfast companion on his mission to connect Australia and Mexico to the Chiral Network. So, it’s only fitting that Sam can personalize it.

Sam’s backpack serves a purpose beyond just carrying items. You can customize it to suit your style, adding different components for new features. Here’s a straightforward guide on how to do it.

    How to Customize Your Backpack

Customizing your backpack is easy. It can only be done in Sam’s private room. Once there, just check out the backpack on the wall and press ‘Square’ to access the customization menu.

Here, you can change the color of your backpack, decide where to place various patches, and create new components. Keep in mind that your backpack has limited space, so be selective about what you add.

How to Unlock New Backpack Colors

Your first customization option is changing the backpack’s color. While this doesn’t affect visibility like Sam’s outfit camo does, having a visually appealing backpack is still worthwhile since you’ll be seeing it throughout the game.

The color change is free and doesn’t require any materials or Chiral Crystals. Initially, your choices are limited, but each new connection level you achieve with The Artist prepper will unlock additional colors.

These colors can also be used for Sam’s outfit, BB’s pod, and Dollman’s suit.

How to Unlock New Backpack Patches and Components

Beyond colors, you can also customize your backpack with Patches and Components. Patches are purely decorative and occupy minimal space, while components introduce new functions and capabilities, thus taking up more room.

    Here’s how to unlock them.

    Patches

As expected, patches are all about aesthetics. They take up just one spot on the backpack. Most patches become available as you max out your connection level with different preppers, each offering a unique patch.

When customizing your backpack, focus on Components first, as patches are mainly for filling in any leftover space.

    Components

Components shine when it comes to backpack customization. As you progress in the game and complete orders, you’ll unlock an array of components. These can take up significant space, so be sure to equip only the essential ones to avoid overloading your backpack.

Complete 10 deliveries, 10 recoveries, and 10 elimination/destruction standard orders with an S rank in Casual difficulty or higher.

You’ll need to complete 30 Standard Orders, with ten of each type. Pay attention to the mission name: if it starts with “Deliver”, you’re delivering; if it starts with “Recover”, you need to retrieve items. Elimination Orders involve neutralizing enemies.

Achieving an S Rank can be easier than it looks. Stealth is key when facing enemies, and for deliveries or recoveries, ensure your cargo remains undamaged and meets all conditions.

    Helping People to Connect

Take a photo using photo mode (press the left side of the touchpad to enter, then press X). Afterward, go to a private room at any terminal and change the background or front to one of your images (press Triangle when prompted).

    Creature Comforter

    Dig, Dig, Dig!

You need to restore two mines as part of Main Order (13) and a Sub Order (104). After that, you can restore any additional mines in Australia; however, they require various materials.

    Rail Restorer

    Emergency Worker

Deliver emergency support for the first time.

Structures in the game can get damaged over time. Check your map for any structure marked with a yellow hammer icon, go there, and repair it. You can easily do this using Chiral Crystals.

    Spring into Life

Dig a hot spring for the first time.

Utilize the Hot Spring near The Motherhood’s terminal in Episode 7, which will transport you to Heartman’s Lab. The Hydrologist will unlock the Hot Spring for your PCC Lv2, enabling you to create them in specific locations. The easiest one is found in an Aid Request from The Hydrologist.

When you’re at a Hot Spring at night, look up at the sky and follow the prompt to study the constellations.

Porters Make the World Go Round

Trade with another porter for the first time.

As you advance in the story, you’ll notice Local Porters entering and exiting various facilities. Their interactions are random; if you approach one, they might offer you a piece of cargo. Accept it and then drop off a piece you don’t want. When they take it, you’ll unlock this trophy.

    A Private Show!

Watch a live performance in your private room.

During Main Order 11, connect The Musician to the Chiral Network. This will unlock the Music Player and the song Horizon Dreamer. Return to your room in the Magellan, and Dollman will inquire about the song. Play it and then interact with Dollman again to witness one of the game’s best features.

    So YOU’RE the Pizza Chef!

Discover the truth about the Pizza Chef.

As your connection with The Pizza Chef grows, you’ll notice the stars will seem to stop growing early. When this happens, visit the nearby enemy camp and locate the Lost Cargo called Pizza Chef’s Misanga. Once you return it, a unique cutscene will play.

These golden rodent-like creatures can be found in tar pools near mines.

    A Premier Porter

Achieve a porter grade of 40 or higher across all categories.

As you complete orders, experience is earned in five categories: Porter (for deliveries), Combat (defeating foes), Stealth (remaining undetected), Servicemanship (finishing Aid Requests and repairing structures), and Bridge Link (interactions with players’ structures). These levels increase naturally throughout the main story; however, Combat and Stealth may require additional side orders to exceed level 40.

    Compulsive Cargo Carrier

Deliver a total of 500 pieces of cargo.

This trophy accumulates over time. You’ll unlock it as you progress in the story.

    Heavy Lifter

Deliver cargo with a cumulative weight of two tons.

This trophy accumulates over time. You’ll earn it during your story progression.

    Long-Distance Lugger

  • Completing Mines in Death Stranding 2: A Solving Guide

Completing Mines in Death Stranding 2: A Solving Guide

In the original *Death Stranding*, collecting materials to construct roads and other infrastructure was a key feature. In *Death Stranding 2: On The Beach*, the importance of these materials increases significantly as players work to restore even larger infrastructure systems.

While various facilities across Australia provide an abundance of materials, they will deplete rapidly once you engage in major restoration efforts. To meet the demands of these expansive projects, you’ll need to tap into mines for essential resources. However, incorporating these mines into the Chiral Network and transporting the materials involves significant challenges.

    How to Utilize Mines

Mines are introduced early in the game and come in two types: small mines and large mines. Small mines are typically isolated, yielding fewer materials but requiring fewer Chiral Crystals to operate. In contrast, large mines cover more extensive areas and provide a wealth of resources, though they require a substantial amount of Chiral Crystals to function.

Moreover, larger mines are often equipped with a monorail, facilitating quicker material transport.

Before commencing mining, you’ll need to restore the mine itself, much like upgrading a structure or repairing a road. Simply gather the necessary materials to complete the restoration. If the mine is outside the Chiral Network, you must provide all the materials yourself. If it’s within the network, it might receive assistance from other players in its restoration.

After a mine is restored, you’ll need to provide Chiral Crystals to extract materials. This extraction process happens instantly, enabling you to receive all the materials at once. You cannot make partial contributions; it’s an all-or-nothing scenario for both small and large mines.

Mines also naturally generate materials over time, and using Chiral Crystals simply speeds up this process.

What Types of Materials Can Be Found in Mines?

Each mine offers a specific resource unique to the game, such as:

    • Metals
    • Ceramics
    • Special Alloys
    • Chemicals
    • Resins

Each mine produces a designated material, and you cannot change its output. Therefore, it’s essential to locate the right mine if you want a consistent source of specific materials. In general, every material has two mines available, except for Chemicals, which only has one. For most other resources, you will find both small and large mines to choose from.

How to Transport Materials from Mines

Once you’ve collected materials from a mine, they must be transported elsewhere to be of any value. The method for doing this largely depends on your location. Despite Sam’s strength, he cannot carry an enormous amount of material on his own.

For larger mines, a nearby monorail can facilitate the rapid transport of materials directly to your private locker at any station along the track. This strategy allows for transporting heavy loads that would be nearly impossible to carry otherwise.

Monorails can also carry vehicles and regular cargo if you have deliveries to make along the route.

If a monorail isn’t available, your next best choice is a Pickup Off-Roader. While a Tri-cruiser is quick, it likely can’t handle the volume of materials from even a small mine. The Pickup Off-Roader, however, has ample cargo space and protects materials from Timefall during longer journeys.

    Additional Information on Mines

    Upgrading Mines

Mines produce substantial quantities of materials, but they can be further improved. Just like PCC structures, mines can be upgraded, allowing them to provide even more materials while still requiring the same number of Chiral Crystals. Additionally, being connected to the Chiral Network enables other players to contribute materials toward upgrades, making the process more efficient.

    Collecting Chiral Crystals

You might have noticed that mines demand a significant amount of Chiral Crystals, and obtaining enough can be challenging since you can’t gather them as easily as mine resources. Your primary sources of Chiral Crystals include defeating BTs, which drop crystals upon defeat. Additionally, tar pools around mines often house Chiral Crystals for collection.

Chiral Crystals are also more prevalent during Timefall, so keep an eye out for them while exploring to gather them more rapidly. We offer an in-depth guide on finding more if you need assistance.

  • Completing the Happy Birthday Easter Egg in Death Stranding 2

Completing the Happy Birthday Easter Egg in Death Stranding 2

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is just what you’d expect from a Hideo Kojima game—packed with hidden gems, nods to past titles, and plenty of quirky moments. Sam Bridges’ new journey is no different. Along with numerous references to the iconic Metal Gear Solid series, there’s a charming detail that makes players truly feel like part of the story.

In Death Stranding 2, you can have the entire Magellan DHV crew—plus a special guest—sing Happy Birthday to you. Here’s how to unlock this unique cutscene and what to look forward to.

How to Unlock the Happy Birthday Cutscene

At the start of any game in Death Stranding 2, once you pick your difficulty level, you’ll be prompted to enter your birthday. Shortly after, you’ll see a message suggesting that those born under specific constellations may be more prone to developing DOOMs. It’s a neat touch, and you might just move on from there.

This information becomes useful in the game when you encounter the Doctor at The Motherhood during Main Order 26. The Motherhood is a terminal that will require a code upon your first visit, and that code is your birthday.

But wait, there’s another surprise! If you access the Magellan or awaken there on your birthday, a special cutscene is activated. All the crew members gather to celebrate you. Initially, Heartman attempts to bring you a cake, only for Charlie to cause a mishap. Just when it seems like the celebration might be ruined, your favorite villain, Higgs, appears with a pizza to save the day.

Tomorrow, Rainy, Tarman, Fragile, Heartman, and Sam in the Happy Birthday scene in Death Stranding 2.

Keep in mind that you can’t change your birthday after you’ve set it. However, you can start a new game, choose a different date, unlock the Magellan in Australia, and enjoy this entertaining scene.

  • Completing the Mech Octopus Challenge in Death Stranding 2

Completing the Mech Octopus Challenge in Death Stranding 2

Sure! Here’s a rewritten version of your content in American English, keeping it unique and straightforward.

Gameplay Overview of Death Stranding 2: On The Beach

In Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, a lot of your time is spent walking, driving, constructing, and making deliveries. While you can evade most combat encounters if you want to avoid being too aggressive, there are times when violence is unavoidable.

One of these moments is during the boss fights, particularly against the Mecha Octopus, which you meet after a surprising reappearance of Higgs. This mech opponent is quite different from any previous foes, requiring you to use more than just brute strength this time.

When Do You Face the Mecha Octopus?

You encounter the Mecha Octopus in Australia, just before reaching the West Fort Knot (F1) Distribution Center. Before arrival, you’ll notice some unusual occurrences, though you won’t know the specifics until you pick up the Main Order: Number 12: Investigate The Unusual Tar Currents Near F1.

You collect this order at The Musician’s shelter, which is situated high in the mountains, making it somewhat inconvenient to revisit later. Since it’s a long trek to West Fort Knot (F1) and there’s no cargo to deliver, you might as well pick up this order now and head to your destination when you’re prepared.

Be aware, the boss fight begins as soon as you enter the tar-covered section of West Fort Knot (F1), and you won’t find nearby areas for crafting. Thus, ensure you have everything you need before heading there, and avoid carrying unnecessary cargo that could be damaged.

Tip: If you’re worried about carrying too much, you can set up a Postbox outside to safely store items.

Recommended Gear for the Boss Fight

The Mecha Octopus is a new enemy type that you’ll likely not have encountered before. Since it’s a mechanical foe, typical strategies like using Blood Grenades won’t be effective here. Instead, bring an MP Assault Rifle and an MP Shotgun for substantial damage, as tranquilizer rounds won’t work well against it. The Grenade Pistol may help if you have it, although it requires precision, which can be tricky in this fight.

Make sure to carry as many Blood Bags as you can since they are lightweight and keep Sam agile. Store MP Grenades in your dedicated pouch for a better alternative to Blood Grenades here. A Custom Electric Rod can also be effective; while not useful for melee attacks, throwing it can deal high damage, especially to mechs.

Additionally, while the Maser Handgun can inflict anti-mech damage, its short range and slow charge time make it less suitable for this fight.

Prioritize storing any excess gear before the battle to minimize damage and keep Sam nimble.

Strategies for Defeating the Mecha Octopus

The Mecha Octopus presents a formidable challenge, capable of agile movements and powerful attacks. You’ll need to stay mobile and find the right positioning to succeed, especially since its attacks can be quite frequent.

    Moveset

    • Triple Tentacle Slam: Raises three tentacles before slamming them down.
    • Body Slam: Can happen when it stands on its tentacles or slams down thrice with its body.
    • Triple Tentacle Stomp: If you’re beside the Mecha Octopus, it performs a quick stomp.
    • Wide Tentacle Swipe: Swings a tentacle in a broad arc when you’re at a distance.
    • Lunge: Charges toward you using its tentacles.
    • Backward Swipes: If you’re behind, it may walk backward and swipe tentacles.
    • Charged Corkscrew: A powerful charge followed by a spiraling attack.

This encounter is more dynamic than your previous giant boss fight. As the Mecha Octopus moves fluidly, keeping your aim precise can be a challenge. Focus on specific body parts to deal consistent damage.

While the Mecha Octopus won’t lose its attack patterns even after revealing its weaknesses, staying agile is crucial to avoid its potentially lethal strikes.

    Strengths and Weaknesses

As a mech enemy, common tactics won’t apply here. You’ll need to focus on your MP weapons, primarily the MP Assault Rifle and Shotgun.

Look for glowing orange weak points on its tentacle joints, the eye, and two points on its back. Although you can hit anywhere, targeting these weak spots is essential for significant damage. Utilize the Assault Rifle from a distance, but switch to the Shotgun when you’re close enough to attack the weak points on the tentacles. After knocking those out, you can switch back to the Assault Rifle for the remaining weak points, ensuring you can take the Mecha Octopus down efficiently.

This version is simple, reader-friendly, and ensures clarity while providing all critical details about the fight against the Mecha Octopus in Death Stranding 2.

  • Completing Bosses in Death Stranding 2: A Solving Guide

Completing Bosses in Death Stranding 2: A Solving Guide

Hideo Kojima is known for breaking the fourth wall in his games, incorporating playful references and mechanics that offer a unique experience to the player. In Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, one of these features is called “Pretend You Won.”

This option can easily be overlooked during the main storyline. However, if you miss it, there’s no need for concern! It’s designed for players who may struggle with certain parts of the game, and it’s entirely optional. Let’s explore what “Pretend You Won” entails in Death Stranding 2.

    Understanding “Pretend You Won”

In Death Stranding 2, you can skip boss battles without having to face them head-on. You’ll only see this option after losing the fight.

For instance, during my encounter with the Giant Ghost Mech in Main Order 39, when Sam’s health was depleted, he entered the Seam—the space he visits when he’s about to Repatriate. Typically, there’s only an option to press Square to return. However, I noticed a new choice: pressing Triangle to “Pretend You Won.”

When you select Triangle, a prompt appears stating that you will skip the battle as if you emerged victorious, although this will slightly impact your order results.

After using the “Pretend You Won” feature, a series of slides narrate what happened during the battle. Following that, I experienced the usual cutscene that plays when you actually win the fight.

On the Results screen, you’ll see the unique label “Imaginary Victory,” accompanied by an illustration of Sam sleeping. You still receive likes for completing the order, but it’s less than what you would earn if you had fought the battle. For example, I earned 505 likes for the Imaginary Victory and an additional 200 for “defeating” the Giant Ghost Mech.

If you encounter a boss that seems too challenging, you can always use “Pretend You Won” to move ahead in the story.

  • Completing Death Stranding 2: Urinate Inside or Outside?

Completing Death Stranding 2: Urinate Inside or Outside?

As you navigate the expansive landscapes of Mexico and Australia in Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, you’ll find yourself delivering various packages. Fortunately, after reaching Australia, the Drawbridge submarine will accompany you almost everywhere, appearing nearby once you establish a connection to the Chiral Network.

This submarine features a private room where you can recharge, take a shower, and boost your stamina. Sam can also relieve himself here whenever he needs, though you have the option to do so outdoors as well, with different rewards depending on your choice.

How to Urinate in Death Stranding 2

When you begin your deliveries, tackling challenging terrain and encountering enemies will be part of the journey. The longer you stay outside, the more you’ll feel the need to take a break, with Sam able to hold up to 1,000ml.

You have a couple of ways to relieve yourself in the game: in your private room or outside. If you choose the private room, simply enter, look at the door, and select the option to use the toilet or shower. Sam will manage the rest automatically.

While holding in your urge doesn’t severely impact the game, you might miss out on rewards if you do.

If you prefer to urinate outside, press the right arrow key on your controller and navigate to the bottom left option on the wheel (marked with a strand symbol). Here, you can see how much Sam is holding and switch mechanics, including urination. To proceed, press the option to urinate, use L2 to aim, and then R2 to begin. Keep in mind that you can’t do this near an outpost.

The Differences Between Urinating Inside and Outside

Where you decide to relieve yourself can lead to different outcomes. If you opt for a shower in your private room, the system will filter some Chiral Crystals from your urine and add them to your inventory.

Conversely, if you choose to urinate outdoors, a mushroom will sprout in that spot, which other players can see and interact with by giving it a like. So, if you’re after some social recognition for your character, relieving yourself outside might be your best bet.

  • Completing APAS Enhancements in Death Stranding 2: A Guide to Solving

Completing APAS Enhancements in Death Stranding 2: A Guide to Solving

When you begin your journey in Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, it can feel overwhelming. You’ll have to manage a hefty load of cargo while battling tough foes without many tools at your disposal. However, as you progress, you’ll unlock various upgrades that enhance Sam’s abilities permanently.

A significant portion of these enhancements comes from the APAS System. While each upgrade may seem minor on its own, they can accumulate over time, leading to a substantial improvement in your performance, especially if you focus on earning plenty of APAS memory.

How to Accumulate More APAS Memory

You’ll unlock the APAS system once you reach Australia and connect with someone from APAS. They’ll trust you to link Australia to the Chiral Network and grant you access to the APAS features. To enhance this system, however, you’ll need to gather APAS Enhancement Memory.

Fortunately, acquiring this memory is straightforward. You earn APAS memory by delivering orders to specific outposts and receiving enough likes to achieve the next star rating. Completing a star level at any terminal not only rewards you with new items but also contributes to your APAS memory.

You can view the amount of memory earned in the upgrade screen, right after you receive a new item blueprint.

The better your star rating with an outpost, the more memory you’ll accumulate. Therefore, it’s beneficial to spend some time delivering additional cargo to these locations rather than rushing through the main storyline.

    Where to Allocate APAS Memory

You have two primary ways to access the APAS Enhancement screen and utilize your memory for upgrades. The simplest method is to go through the main menu, first opening the map screen and then pressing the left arrow key on your controller. You’ll see the APAS Enhancement option here.

Alternatively, you can check your APAS Enhancements while preparing for a delivery after selecting your route. In the enhancement screen, you can choose upgrades connected to the center or other activated enhancements.

You can deactivate an upgrade by pressing the same button (X) on it at any time. If you want to respec the entire board, simply hold that button.

Since you can modify these enhancements anytime, it’s wise to adjust them based on your current situation.

  • Completing Quality vs. Performance Graphics Mode in Death Stranding 2

When diving into a grand adventure like Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, where stunning visuals and soothing music surround you, the last thing you want is for performance issues to disrupt your experience. Unfortunately, the game doesn’t offer a detailed graphics setup for you to tinker with.

Instead, you have just two options: quality mode and performance mode. While the differences might not be obvious at first, they can become crucial in certain situations.

    Understanding Quality and Performance Modes

Quality mode is all about enhanced graphics, which demands more from your system. On the other hand, performance mode reduces the graphics quality to provide a smoother frame rate and a more fluid gaming experience. For many players, enjoying a seamless gameplay is often more valuable than having the best visuals.

When switching between these two modes, the most noticeable changes include:

    • The colors in the performance mode become less vibrant, making the clouds appear yellower and the overall landscape look duller.
    • A significant change is in the foliage, where much of the grass shrinks or disappears entirely.
    • You may notice more grainy textures, especially during intense moments like boss fights, which can lead to blurriness on your screen.

However, adjusting these modes also subtly reduces graphic details that aren’t immediately visible. For an optimal experience in Death Stranding 2, playing in Quality mode is ideal. But if you’re experiencing frame drops or freezes, switching to performance mode is highly advisable.

From our observations, the game ran smoothly on quality mode on a standard PlayStation 5.

    How to Switch Graphics Modes

When you start Death Stranding 2, it defaults to quality mode. If you want to switch to performance mode or check which mode you’re in, follow these easy steps:

    • Open your map and press the left arrow button on your controller. You’ll see the System option at the bottom.
    • Navigate to the options menu.
    • In this menu, select the second tab from the right labeled Graphics Settings. Here, you can choose to prioritize either quality or performance.

Once you choose your preferred mode, hit the Back button. The game will quickly restart and apply your changes without affecting your saved progress.

Completing the Electric Rod Quest in Death Stranding 2

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is fundamentally a walking simulator. Every step counts as you meticulously manage your cargo to avoid tipping over. While there’s more to the game, the act of walking constitutes its core experience. The various tools available serve primarily to assist in this journey.

Each delivery improves your connection with the recipients, sometimes earning you new items as a thank-you. Early in the game, you encounter La Madre, a pregnant woman living with a few elderly residents in Mexico. Assisting her is rewarding both emotionally and materially.

Starting the Lost Cargo Recovery Aid Request

After connecting La Madre to the Chiral Network, she introduces a unique kind of mission: Aid Requests. These operate differently from standard orders, so you may need guidance on how to proceed. First, though, you’ll want to reach Villa Libre.

    Getting to Villa Libre

At the beginning, Sam’s goal is to visit the La Ciudad Distribution Center and link it to the Chiral Network. Once you settle in your room, you receive a new request to deliver Remote Medical Units to Villa Libre, a remote settlement with a pregnant woman and a few seniors who are in desperate need of medical supplies due to their isolation.

When planning your route to Villa Libre, you can choose between two paths. The northern route leads through a bandit camp, while the alternate route is obstacle-free but potentially treacherous due to flooding. If you opt for the safer option, be aware that rivers might overflow, complicating your navigation. However, if you’re confident in your stealth or combat skills, the bandit camp could be the faster choice.

    Tip

If you go through the bandit camp, try not to let the cargo sustain too much damage for the best ranking.

Regardless of your path, be prepared for floodwaters; it’s wise to carry two ladders to cross the river effectively. After crossing, take care to walk cautiously since the ground could be slippery from the flooding, increasing the risk of falling.

Unlocking the Lost Cargo Recovery Request

Upon reaching Villa Libre and delivering the medical supplies, La Madre will introduce the next mission leading you through a bandit camp and ultimately connecting the next Distribution Center. She also provides your first Aid Request: several cargo pieces, containing walking sticks for the elderly, were washed away in the flood and are too close to the bandits for safe retrieval. You can collect these at your leisure without a formal order.

How to Find the Walking Sticks

Since this is your first Aid Request, it’s fairly straightforward. The walking sticks are four small pieces of cargo, so make sure to have enough space in your inventory before heading out. They’re located near the riverbanks close to a bandit camp. Aim to collect them when there’s no flooding, and consider nighttime for stealth against the bandits.

Once you have all four pieces, the journey back to Villa Libre should be relatively smooth. Just hand them over to La Madre to complete the aid request.

    Unlocking the Electric Rod

As in the original Death Stranding, progressing your connection level with various Preppers and Distribution Centers nets you valuable rewards early in the game. La Madre offers an especially enticing item: the Electric Rod. This weapon, familiar from your encounters with Mules and Bandits, becomes available after achieving a two-star connection level with her.

You can boost your connection through various actions, including delivering lost cargo. However, completing the Lost Cargo Recovery Aid Request is the quickest way to reach that two-star threshold.

How to Use the Electric Rod

Once you acquire the Electric Rod, you’ll discover it has many of the same capabilities as when used by the Bandits. You can swing it as a powerful melee weapon, although that will reduce its durability.

Additionally, you can use it defensively by holding L2 to block attacks without worrying about timing or dodging. The Electric Rod can also be thrown: a quick tap of R2 will toss it in the direction you’re facing, or you can hold R2 to aim further. It has an area-effect ability that can knock out nearby enemies and disable electrical devices and vehicles.

    Note

Remember that the Electric Rod is ineffective against BTs.
