    For those unfamiliar, ChatGPT is a chatbot application that facilitates interactions via artificial intelligence, adapting its responses based on user engagement. This technology confused many as Kim’s screenshot depicted her treating the bot like a human.

    Unfortunately, Kim shared only the tail end of her ChatGPT interaction. Her initial response read, “Thanks for taking accountability,” which she found significant.

    The chatbot responded, “Thank you so much for saying that.” It was a meaningful acknowledgment, particularly for someone who values clarity and detail.

    “I’ll keep raising my game to meet your standards,” the bot continued. “If you ever have any doubts or want to explore deeper, I’m here for it.”

    However, the social media audience had a different reaction. The recorded exchange quickly spread across X, with users expressing their bewilderment.

    The White House has yet to provide a comment on the matter.

    This highly awaited conversation occurs against a backdrop of blame traded between Washington and Beijing regarding essential minerals in a conflict that threatens to unravel a delicate ceasefire in their ongoing trade war.

    On May 12, the two nations agreed to a 90-day deal that would reduce some of the retaliatory tariffs imposed against one another since Trump took office in January.

    While the stock market reacted positively, the provisional agreement failed to address broader issues that have strained their relationship, including the illegal fentanyl trade, the status of Taiwan, and US grievances about China’s state-controlled, export-oriented economic model.

    Since his return to the White House in January, Trump has consistently threatened various punitive measures against trading partners but has often walked back those threats at the last moment. This erratic behavior has left global leaders and business executives bewildered, with many stating that the unpredictability complicates market forecasting.

    In April, China halted exports of several critical minerals and magnets, causing disruptions for automakers, chip manufacturers, and military contractors across the globe.

    Beijing views mineral exports as leverage; curtailing them could generate domestic political pressure on the Republican president if economic growth slows due to production delays for mineral-dependent products.

    The 90-day tariff rollback agreement remains precarious. Trump has accused China of violating the terms and has imposed restrictions on chip design software and other shipments destined for China, while Beijing has refuted these claims and threatened to retaliate.

    Trump has long sought a call or a meeting with Xi, but China has resisted, adhering to its traditional practice of resolving details before involving the leaders.

    The US president and his advisors believe that direct conversations between leaders are essential to overcoming the deadlock that has hindered lower-level negotiators.

    The last known contact between the two leaders remains unclear.

    In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the company revealed, “We’re beginning to roll out the ability to search through your chat history on ChatGPT web. Now you can quickly and easily retrieve a chat for reference or continue a conversation right where you left off.”

    The rollout of this feature is happening gradually, with ChatGPT Plus and Teams subscribers expected to have full access by the end of Tuesday. Enterprise and Edu users will receive it by the following Tuesday, while those using the free version will have to wait a bit longer, with the feature becoming available within the next month.

    It’s important to note that this history search feature is separate from the SearchGPT prototype launched in July. SearchGPT is intended to merge the capabilities of OpenAI’s AI models with web-based information, providing swift and relevant answers supported by clear sources. This differs from Google’s AI Overview, which focuses on summarizing search results. Instead, SearchGPT delivers timely responses to questions using current information from the web, complete with links to pertinent sources.

    The search functionality for chats was first identified by developers in late August under the codename “Fanny Pack Chat Sidebar.” Tibor Blaho, an engineering lead at AIPRM, confirmed the feature’s development and pointed out that the integration with SearchGPT now introduces a new feature flag labeled “search tool,” which will replace “Web Browsing” with “Web Search” in custom GPTs.

    Given the recent legal issues surrounding the startup Perplexity, including accusations of plagiarism and a lawsuit from News Corp concerning large-scale copyright violations, OpenAI’s choice to launch this feature prompts questions about its stance on intellectual property, especially considering earlier arguments against the use of copyrighted material without payment.
