  • Where to Find Compass, Tape, and Rations in Broken Monument in Arc Raiders

    As you complete different quests in Arc Raiders, you’ll become more familiar with each trader, and they’ll start giving you tougher tasks. Some of these quests require going to a specific place, collecting a certain loot, and then extracting with it all in the same run.

    The Broken Monument is one example of these quests. In this task, you need to find a First Wave compass, a tape recorder, and rations, all located in the Scrap Yard area of the Dam Battlegrounds. These items can be tricky to locate, so here are the exact spots to check.

    Where to Find the First Wave Compass

    The compass is probably the hardest item to find because the instructions aren’t very clear. Before collecting anything for the Broken Monument quest, you must head to the Scrap Yard, which is south of the Research & Administration building in Dam Battlegrounds when you zoom in on the map.

    Once you’re in the Scrap Yard, look for large metal pieces with wheels—these are not regular cars. Instead, they’re big metal chunks located just below where “Scrap” is marked on the map. Near these, you’ll find a box with a yellow interaction point that contains the compass.

    When you search the boxes, make sure to pick up any items you find because they don’t automatically go into your inventory.

    Where to Find the First Wave Tape

    The tape recorder is easier to find. Head to the area between the Scrap Yard and its loot icons on the map. There, you’ll spot some shiny silver tubes. Stand next to the tube that isn’t fully resting on the ground, and you’ll find a box marked with a yellow interaction point containing the tape recorder.

    Where to Find the First Wave Rations

    The rations are a bit farther from the Scrap Yard. Move directly north from the Scrap Yard label on the map until you see a large tube-shaped structure, which is the raider shack.

    Enter the shack and look inside for a yellow interaction box with the rations. After gathering all three items—compass, tape recorder, and rations—you need to extract with them to complete the quest. If you drop or lose any of these items, you’ll have to start the quest over.

A compass will directly guide you back to your original spawn point without the need to consult a map.

    How to Craft a Compass

    Gathering the materials needed to craft a compass is quite straightforward. To obtain redstone dust, you’ll need to smelt iron ore in a furnace using any type of log. Redstone dust can be found underground, recognizable by a light-gray block with red flecks. Mine below the surface until you come across it. Once found, place one piece in a furnace along with a log from any tree to create redstone dust.

    Iron ingots are similarly obtained. Smelting iron ore with a log will yield iron ingots. If you’ve been mining, you likely already have some iron ore collected. If you need more, grab your pickaxe and dig down until you find what you need.

    After collecting all the necessary items, follow these steps:

    Step 1: Access your crafting table.

    Step 2: Position the redstone dust in the center square.

    Step 3: Place one iron ingot in the squares above, below, and on the sides of the redstone dust, as illustrated in the image.

    Step 4: Retrieve your newly crafted compass.

    In Minecraft, the compass serves more purposes than just signaling north. It will guide you to your spawn point, which is invaluable for navigation. Ideally, your spawn point is where you set up base or store your items. You can set your spawn point using the /spawnpoint command or by sleeping in a bed. With your spawn point established and a compass in hand, returning home becomes a simple task. The needle will always point to your spawn point, whether you’re holding the compass, it’s in your hotbar, or even stored away in your inventory. This feature allows you to keep your hands free for other tasks.
