NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani Implements Citywide Travel Ban Before Major US Storm

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced the closure of the city’s entire traffic system on Sunday, restricting all but emergency travel ahead of an approaching major snowstorm expected to impact the Northeast US.

Tens of millions across the country, from Washington, D.C., to Maine, prepared for the storm, with some regions forecasting up to two feet (60 centimeters) of snow. The National Weather Service warned that blizzard conditions would develop rapidly from Maryland up through southeastern New England, making travel extremely dangerous. Snow may fall at a rate of two to three inches per hour during the storm’s peak, affecting nearly 54 million residents along its path. Heavy snow and gusty winds are likely to cause power outages.

In New York, which is home to over eight million people, Mamdani stated that streets, highways, and bridges would be shut down from 9 p.m. Sunday until noon on Monday. He emphasized that this was the most significant storm the city has faced in a decade and urged residents to avoid all non-essential travel. Essential workers and emergency-related travel will still be permitted.

In neighboring New Jersey, Governor Mikie Sherrill declared a state of emergency starting midday Sunday to expedite response efforts and allocate resources efficiently. Boston’s mayor, Michelle Wu, announced that all public schools and city buildings would be closed on Monday, urging residents to plan ahead and stay safe. The National Weather Service also warned of potential moderate to major coastal flooding along waterfront roads and properties from Delaware to Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

This storm follows a recent severe weather event that caused over 100 fatalities in the region. Governor Hochul of New York advised residents that the worst was still ahead and urged them to stock up on essentials like groceries, medicines, and pet food immediately. She recommended that people prepare to stay indoors, watch more Olympics, read, catch up on news, and call family members—especially mothers—to stay connected during the storm.

  • How to Solve the Buried City Button Puzzle in Arc Raiders

How to Solve the Buried City Button Puzzle in Arc Raiders

Arc Raiders offers many challenges, but the Buried City button puzzle feels like the developers aimed to test your patience intentionally. At first glance, the red button in front of a mysterious door seems harmless, but it quickly turns into a map-wide test of coordination. This isn’t a puzzle you can brute-force or casually stroll through between fights.

Distances are significant, mistakes are immediately punished, and the game provides no mercy if you slip up. If you’ve been staring at that door, wondering how to open it, this guide will explain what’s happening, what you need to do, and how to approach the puzzle without losing your mind.

    ### How to Complete the Buried City Button Puzzle

The puzzle involves activating 15 red buttons scattered across the map in a specific order. These buttons are placed far apart, sometimes over 500 meters between them. The process is slow and unforgiving. Pressing just one button out of sequence instantly resets the entire pattern.

    > Tip: Speed is essential. Bringing items like Adrenaline and Ziplines can help you move faster, reducing the chance of error.

While it’s technically possible to do this alone, it’s much easier with two or three players. Coordinating with others allows each person to handle specific buttons, taking turns, and maintaining clear communication. Precise callouts are crucial—without them, it’s easy to forget the sequence and cause a reset.

    > Caution: Anyone can interact with the buttons. If another player, or even a random teammate, presses a button out of order, the sequence resets immediately.

Below are detailed descriptions and locations of each button.

    —

    ### Button 1: Plaza Rosa Attic
Inside one of the leftmost buildings in Plaza Rosa, go to the second floor. Find the room with the distinctive green kitchen. The red button is next to the floral armchair along the wall.

    —

    ### Button 2: Galleria (Lower Level)
On the map’s southern end inside the Galleria, at the very bottom of the interior. From the roof, slide down the yellow rope, turn left immediately, then follow the narrow corridor. The button is against the wall between some metal shelves.

    —

    ### Button 3: Warehouse Rooftop (Rear Side)
Climb onto the Warehouse roof via the yellow ladder on the west side. Near the skylights at the back wall, between two ventilation units, is the hidden button—a space that’s easy to overlook.

    —

    ### Button 4: Marano Park Shop
Inside the small, gray standalone shop in Marano Park, surrounded by trees, the button is on the interior wall. It’s one of the more straightforward buttons to find.

    —

    ### Button 5: Grandioso Apartments (South Building, Top Floor)
Head into the southern Grandioso Apartments. Go to the highest interior level, then step out onto the balcony. Inside again, behind a patterned couch, is the hidden button.

    —

    ### Button 6: Piazza Arbusto Tower
On the outside wall of the tall blue tower in Piazza Arbusto, carefully walk along the narrow ledge to reach it. The tower’s a short climb from the building near the bridge.

    —

    ### Button 7: Library Bus
Near the library, look for the parked bus—the same one that sometimes contains a weapon case. Enter the bus and find the button on the interior walls.

    —

    ### Button 8: Town Hall Adjacent Building
Enter the building to the left of Town Hall and go upstairs to the top floor. Inside a purple bedroom, check behind the bed on the back wall for the button.

    —

    ### Button 9: Buried Properties (Raider Depot South)
South of the Raider Depot, find a crumbled yellow-flagged building with a small yellow vehicle inside. The button is embedded in the ruins near the vehicle.

    —

    ### Button 10: Hospital Stairwell
In the hospital, go to the main stairwell and descend to the basement by the metro entrance. The button is under the stairs, behind the yellow caution signs.

    —

    ### Button 11: Collapsed Bridge Structure
On the Abandoned Highway, locate the broken, collapsed section of the bridge leaning against a building. Use the yellow zipline to reach the wreckage, then search beneath the bridge for the button in the rubble.

    —

    ### Button 12: Church Ruins
At the Church Ruins, head to the bottom-left group of buried structures. The button is on a roof next to a chimney, surrounded by trees.

    —

    ### Button 13: Santa Maria Attic
Within the Santa Maria housing compound, climb onto the roof of the far-left house via the skylight. Inside the attic, behind some furniture on the interior wall, is the button.

    > Note: If you see a Security Breach Container here, you are in the wrong attic. Exit and check the roofline for the correct space.

    —

    ### Button 14: Piazza Roma Tower
Inside the beige brick tower near Piazza Roma, climbing the floors carefully will reveal the button mounted on the corner of an internal wall—look near a tall tree and a streetlamp outside.

    —

    ### Button 15: Building Near the Red Tower (Final Button)
This last one is inside a building with green shutters just north of Red Tower. Enter from the north side and check the first floor next to the stairs. Pressing this final button opens the door in Buried City.

    —

    ### Rewards for Solving the Puzzle

Once you press the last button, the locked door in Buried City will open, fireworks will explode, and you’ll gain access to a room full of loot. Inside, you’ll find items like guitars, recorders, shakers, and candle holders.

    > Note: Guitars and Shakers in this room are exclusive rewards for completing the puzzle successfully.

  • Best Early City Layout in Anno 117: Completing and Solving Efficiently

Best Early City Layout in Anno 117: Completing and Solving Efficiently

Building a successful city early on in Anno 117: Pax Romana can be tricky, especially for beginners. City-building games demand a careful balance of income, expenses, building houses, utilities, and resource management.

To give your city a strong start, it’s important to plan your layout carefully. The right setup will support your citizens and allow for growth later on. Here’s what you need to know about creating an effective early game layout in Anno 117.

When you first arrive on your island, you’ll see a wide area filled with trees, rivers, mountains, coastlines, and sometimes marshland. All this space is meant to provide resources and room for expansion. Any resources that your land can’t supply should be imported from neighboring rivals.

A good early layout begins with narrow streets forming a large square, with a central plaza in the middle. Even if you don’t have many buildings initially, leave space for future additions. This helps keep everything organized and ready for development.

Next, allocate the land near the coast for fisheries, and place farms on the outskirts. Be cautious to keep resource-producing areas—such as coal mines and pig farms—away from your city to prevent pollution and congestion.

As your residential areas grow, build homes close to buildings that provide positive effects, like taverns, markets, and service buildings such as Vigil, Custodia, or entertainment venues. These will boost the happiness and efficiency of your residents. It’s important to keep negative-impact structures like certain production facilities out of residential zones.

Once your residents have their needs met and their happiness is high, they will upgrade to more advanced types, unlocking new resource and production options. Create a central zone that connects all buildings offering benefits—like markets, entertainment, and services—ensuring accessibility for everyone in your city.

Your initial street grid should form a large square with homes lining the streets. Keep resource-generating buildings like fisheries along the shore, and place farms on the outskirts. Avoid having resource facilities like coal or pig farms directly inside the city to reduce pollution and maintain clean living conditions.

Always review the effects of each new building before placing it. Many buildings impact the nearby residents’ happiness or health, and understanding these effects prevents long-term issues.

If you need to expand or replace buildings later, you can demolish and rebuild them elsewhere to make room for new public services or villas. As you become more familiar with how different buildings influence your city, planning your layout will become easier. If a building damages nearby residents, you can offset the negative effects with structures that provide positive effects, but it’s best to avoid doing so unless absolutely necessary.

Secluded Roof Terrace in Buried City Using Completing and Solving in Arc Raiders

If you’ve reached the point where you’ve received the “Eyes On The Prize” quest from Tian Wen in Arc Raiders, you’ve already helped her with some of her personal matters in the Topside, mainly around the Buried City. This is the final part of that quest chain.

By now, you’ve uncovered clues about the people sabotaging Tian Wen’s supplies and have taken some action against them. Now, you need to further protect her belongings by wiring a solar panel on a hidden rooftop.

Where to Find the Hidden Roof Deck

Before starting the Eyes On The Prize quest, it’s best to have three wires in your inventory. You might already have some stored away, but if not, you can find them in electrical areas or by recycling items like Power Cables or Batteries. Once you have the wires, head over to the map for the Buried City.

Look for a rooftop near the Southern Station, which you can see at the bottom edge of Plaza Rosa in the south. To reach this rooftop, start in the middle of the cluster of buildings just below Plaza Rosa. From there, climb onto the western building, then continue west along the rooftop.

As you go, you’ll notice a small bridge connecting to a terrace with blue tarps on the right side. This rooftop is the one you need to complete this part of the quest. Once you arrive there, you’ll be ready to wire the solar panel.

How to Connect the Solar Panel

You’ll need the three wires you collected earlier. On the western side of the terrace, you’ll find a yellow panel with an interaction icon. If you have all three wires, interact with this panel to complete the wiring and finish the quest.

If you arrive at the panel without wires, try checking nearby buildings. They aren’t hard to find and could hold the wires you need. Once you connect the wires, the quest will be complete.

  • Zohran Mamdani: Rapper Turned NYC Mayoral Frontrunner Celebrates Diversity

Zohran Mamdani: Rapper Turned NYC Mayoral Frontrunner Celebrates Diversity

Zohran Mamdani, a former rapper born in Uganda to Indian parents, is currently leading the race for New York City mayor. While most candidates haven’t incorporated their musical past into their campaigns, Mamdani proudly includes his history as a rapper in his official records. He performed under the pseudonyms Young Cardamom and Mr. Cardamom, earning modest royalties from his performances.

In 2016, Mamdani performed as part of a duo with childhood friend Hussein Abdul Bar at a festival in their native Uganda. That same year, a music video featured Mamdani performing alongside HAB for the song “#1 Spice,” connected to the release of Mira Nair’s film “Queen of Katwe,” which his mother directed. The movie tells the true story of a Ugandan girl who rises to become a chess champion, and the music video included appearances by Lupita Nyong’o and other young actors.

A co-founder of the Nyege Nyege festival, Derek Debru, recalls Mamdani gaining media attention when his music videos circulated on TV, prompting Mamdani to meet a hip-hop producer and record his own songs. One notable track is a bilingual rap that references a popular Indian and East African flatbread, with lyrics: “I got the same history as chapati, origins of India, but born in UG. Rock brown skin, but I’m Ugandan. I can rap both in English and Luganda.”

Mam-dani declined to comment for an interview but was involved in a project with renowned Indian culinary writer and actress Madhur Jaffrey. In a playful street-food-cart music video, Jaffrey, dressed casually in a yellow hoodie, rapped and danced beside Mamdani, who wore an apron without a shirt underneath. Jaffrey amusingly remarked on her role, saying, “I have to make a murder as Lady Macbeth… so what’s a few dirty words between us?” during an appearance on Good Morning Britain.

Following his success in the Democratic primary, a friend from Uganda, Magnus Thomson—who was the sound producer for Mamdani’s collaboration with Jaffrey—initially thought Mamdani had been elected mayor. It took a few days for him to realize there was still a general election to win. Thomson, a Dane, appreciated Mamdani’s consistency in maintaining his democratic socialist beliefs.

In a July campaign video, Mamdani’s humor showed through when he made RZA from Wu-Tang Clan laugh by referencing Wu-Tang Financial, a comedic skit where Wu-Tang members played financial advisors. Mamdani emphasized that Brooklyn’s Brownsville neighborhood, where RZA’s home is located, should be a place residents feel proud to stay.

Derek Debru believes Mamdani’s past as a rapper contributes to his authenticity as a politician, noting that Mamdani embraces his background fully. “We knew who he was. It was really exciting to see a person like him own who he is without hiding it,” Debru said.

  • Exploring City Town in Hello Kitty Island Adventure: A Guide

Exploring City Town in Hello Kitty Island Adventure: A Guide

In Hello Kitty Island Adventure, you’ll find plenty of exciting locations to discover. Starting from the main islands, you can venture into flowery meadows and more. One of the destinations you can eventually unlock is City Town, which introduces a new character named Usahana.

The journey to reach City Town requires time and effort. By completing a series of quests, you’ll unveil this vibrant city. This guide will focus on how to unlock City Town, specifically by completing two quests: Ship Shape and Into The Fog.

What Quests Do You Need To Complete?

The first quest to tackle in order to open up City Town is Ship Shape, followed by Into The Fog, which will guide you directly to your new destination. Before diving into these quests, however, you will need to complete a number of other tasks.

Below, you can find the complete list of necessary quests, along with their related requirements.

You will also need to achieve friendship level seven with certain characters before you can proceed with Ship Shape.

Once you’ve checked off all the requirements, you’ll be ready to start Ship Shape!

This is quite a bit to accomplish, which is why reaching City Town isn’t something you can do early in the game. Luckily, if you keep your focus on the requirements outlined above, unlocking the new location should happen fairly quickly.

    How To Start Ship Shape

Badtz-maru showing the player the boat in Hello Kitty Island Adventure.

To kick things off, locate Badtz-maru, who will point out a boat at the end of the docks near his shop and your cabin. Since Badtz-maru isn’t sure what to do with the boat, you’ll need to find Chococat.

Chococat can be found near his tent with Keroppi, who also noticed the boat. Once you have them both, return to the boat and speak with Chococat. During this interaction, a Blue Figment will appear, intrigued by the boat.

    Meet At Hello Kitty Cafe

After examining the boat, head over to the Hello Kitty Cafe with Badtz-maru and Keroppi. Since Hello Kitty is not around, it’s your job to prepare food for the two. Badtz-maru wants a Pumpkin Pie, while Keroppi would like some Milk Bread.

You can find pumpkins in the Spooky Swamp, while the Coral Milk needed for Milk Bread can be sourced from Rainbow Reef.

Once you provide the requested food, Hello Kitty makes an appearance, mentioning she saw the boat. During this conversation, you’ll notice the Pink Figment show up as well. It seems Figments appear whenever someone imagines something related to the boat.

Chococat realizes this too and suggests that the group should try imagining. However, that method doesn’t work, so you’ll need to find Kuromi in the Spooky Swamp.

Meet Kuromi In The Spooky Swamp

A player holding an orange figment in Hello Kitty Island Adventure.

Once you find Kuromi, she mentions that a Figment showed up but flew away. Now, your task is to locate this Figment. Fortunately, it’s located just slightly north of where you spoke to Kuromi, and you can hear it making some noise when you’re close by.

A player crafting the essence of imagination in Hello Kitty Island Adventure.

After you catch the Figment, return to Chococat at his tent. He’ll engage you in conversation, and it’s now time to combine all three Figments into the Essence of Imagination! You only need the three Figments—no other items required.

With the Essence created, head back to the boat and speak with Badtz-maru. He’ll place the Essence in the boat, and soon, everyone will scatter to prepare for departure. At this point, you’ll need to wait until the next day to continue.

This waiting period refers to a real-world day. Simply sleeping in the game won’t trigger the next part.

How To Start Into The Fog

A player talking with Badtz-maru about water balloons in Hello Kitty Island Adventure.

When the next day arrives, you will be able to initiate Into The Fog. This quest will replace Ship Shape in your quest log, and your first task is to chat with Badtz-maru. He will instruct you to gather everyone back at the boat, specifically Chococat, Keroppi, Cinnamoroll, and Kuromi.

    Chococat

First, visit Chococat. He needs to get ready, and you can help by gathering the following items:

    • 1x Blank Book
    • 3x Mechanism
    • 3x Spark
    • 3x Woodblock

Once you’ve crafted these items, give them to Chococat.

    Keroppi & Cinnamoroll

A player telling Keroppi that it's time to leave in Hello Kitty Island Adventure.

Keroppi and Cinnamoroll don’t require any items; just locate them and inform them that everyone is meeting at the boat. Typically, Cinnamoroll can be spotted floating in the Seaside Resort plaza during this stage of the quest.

    Kuromi

Lastly, you need to get Kuromi on board. She’s not leaving without snacks, so you’ll need to prepare a selection of foods for her:

    • 5x Veggie Bread
    • 3x Cinnamon Bread
    • 1x Mama’s Apple Pie

    Meet At The Boat

Everyone gathered at the boat for City Town in Hello Kitty Island Adventure.

Once you’ve prepared the last of Kuromi’s snacks, it’s time to return to the boat and set sail for City Town! After reaching the dock, you’ll find yourself in a vibrant city filled with opportunities for exploration. After some dialogue, everyone will split up to explore the area.

You can now visit your friends, with their locations highlighted on the map. Make sure to speak to both groups and then head back to the boat where you initially landed.

    Usahana Introduction

Following a bit more conversation, Usahana will make her debut. This is a new character you haven’t met before, and it seems everyone else is already familiar with her. At this point, Kuromi will present you with the pie you made earlier to give to Usahana.

This gesture certainly pleases Usahana! With that, the quest wraps up. You are now free to explore City Town and build your friendship with Usahana. You don’t need to take the boat to return here; simply interact with the mailbox located near Chococat’s previous spot, which can be used for quick teleportation to City Town.

City Town is home to several mailboxes and the Imagination Cafe, an adorable spot for cooking. However, you can only start visiting the cafe once you reach friendship level three with Usahana, so don’t hesitate to start giving her gifts!

SpaceX is embarking on a mission that transcends mere rocket launches—it’s working towards establishing a new city at its Starbase facility in Texas.

On Thursday, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk took to X to disclose a letter addressed to Judge Eddie Treviño Jr., the elected official of Cameron County, requesting a vote on incorporating Starbase, Texas, as an official city.

“Starbase is home to the development and production of SpaceX’s Starship, a project designed to fundamentally alter humanity’s access to space,” the letter elaborated. “We are investing billions into infrastructure while generating substantial income and tax revenue for local businesses and government, all aimed at transforming South Texas into the Gateway to Mars,” it continued.

To support its argument, SpaceX stated that expanding its workforce to accelerate the development and manufacturing of its next-generation Starship requires “the ability to grow Starbase as a community. This is why we are requesting Cameron County to call for an election that would allow Starbase to become the newest city in the Rio Grande Valley.”

The company further emphasized that creating Starbase City would “simplify the processes needed to develop the amenities essential for making the area a top-tier place to reside—for both the hundreds who already live there and for potential employees eager to contribute to humanity’s future in space.”

Historically, references to Starbase have often included the words “near Boca Chica, Texas.” Establishing it as a city would alter that narrative.

The Associated Press noted that Musk first proposed the idea back in 2021 when he tweeted about “creating the city of Starbase, Texas.” Judge Treviño Jr. remarked that this latest move signifies the first formal petition regarding incorporation.

“Our legal and elections administration will analyze the petition to ensure it meets all statutory requirements, and then we’ll proceed accordingly,” Treviño declared on Thursday.

Despite environmental advocates raising concerns about potential water pollution and habitat disruption around the Starbase area, SpaceX reassured in its letter that city incorporation would have “no negative impact on our commitment to being a science-based steward of the local environment.”

This initiative isn’t without precedent; in 1959, the city of Koromo in Japan rebranded itself to Toyota to reflect the significance of the automaker.

  • India’s Waste-to-Energy: 10 Plants, High Toxin Levels, Major Failures

India’s Waste-to-Energy: 10 Plants, High Toxin Levels, Major Failures

The State of Waste-to-Energy in India

    Introduction to Waste-to-Energy Technology

Waste-to-energy (WtE) is a significant technology aimed at addressing the increasing waste generation crisis while producing energy from municipal solid waste. In India, the implementation of WtE processes has seen a surge, particularly in urban centers where waste management systems are struggling to keep up with rapid population growth and urbanization. However, the effectiveness and sustainability of WtE plants in India have recently come under scrutiny.

    The Timarpur-Okhla Waste-Burning Plant: A Case Study

    Accusations and Health Concerns

An investigative report by The New York Times highlighted critical issues surrounding the Timarpur-Okhla waste-burning plant located in Delhi. This facility, operational since 2012, has been pointed out for emitting smoke loaded with toxic substances that far exceed legal limits. Local residents have been voicing concerns for years about health problems linked to the plant, including respiratory ailments, headaches, and allegations of increased miscarriage rates and birth defects.

    Environmental Violations

In addition to health concerns, the report alleges that the ashes produced by the plant have been dumped illegally close to residential areas. The proximity of such hazardous waste not only poses immediate health risks but also raises long-term environmental concerns about soil and water contamination in the area.

Overview of Waste-to-Energy Plants in India

    Current Landscape

Despite the controversial nature of WtE facilities, around ten plants are known to be operational across India. Four of these plants are located in the National Capital Territory of Delhi, which generates a substantial amount of household waste due to its large population. Interestingly, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has recently omitted specific data on the number of WtE facilities, signaling possible gaps in transparency regarding the operation and efficacy of these plants.

    Historical Context

India’s journey into waste-to-energy technology dates back to 1987, when the first plant was commissioned in Delhi but quickly shut down due to operational challenges. The subsequent establishment of newer plants, such as the Timarpur-Okhla facility, was seen as a renewed effort to harness the potential of waste energy generation.

    Challenges Facing Waste-to-Energy Plants

    Technical and Operational Hurdles

A significant factor contributing to the inefficacy of India’s WtE plants is the heterogeneous nature of the waste. Unlike countries with successful waste-to-energy frameworks that process sorted and recycled waste, India’s waste is often mixed with a high proportion of organic and recyclable materials, which complicates the burning process. According to the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), this mixed waste composition greatly diminishes the efficiency and effectiveness of energy recovery.

    Insufficient Regulatory Framework

The CSE also critiques India’s capacity to enforce robust emission standards for waste-to-energy plants. Given the present operational challenges, there is a heightened need for stringent monitoring and adherence to environmental regulations. Unfortunately, the prevailing framework remains inadequate, leaving a gap in safeguarding public health and environmental integrity.

    Government Support for Waste-to-Energy Initiatives

    Continued Push for Expansion

Despite mounting evidence of the challenges faced by the existing WtE plants, the Indian government continues to advocate for the expansion of waste-to-energy technologies. Estimates suggest that there are approximately 10 to 15 additional plants currently under construction, with even more proposed. This push reflects a broader governmental strategy aimed at tackling the waste crisis and meeting energy needs.

    Public Backlash and Future Prospects

The support for WtE initiatives is met with significant public resistance, particularly in areas near operational plants. Residents’ concerns about health issues and environmental degradation are leading to a growing movement against the establishment of waste-to-energy facilities. As plans for new plants materialize, it remains to be seen how these social dynamics will unfold in the context of India’s ongoing waste management and energy production endeavors.
