  • Sony’s InZone H9 II Cheaper XM6 Wireless Headphones With Gaming Features

Sony’s InZone H9 II Cheaper XM6 Wireless Headphones With Gaming Features

The holiday season arrives early for those who love accessories, especially among PS5 and PC gamers. Sony has expanded its InZone gaming lineup with several new products, including the H9 II wireless noise-canceling headset, E9 in-ear monitors, the KBD-H75 keyboard, Mouse-A mouse, and the Mat-D and Mat-F mousepads.

Among the new items, the standout appears to be the over-ear ANC headphones. The InZone H9 II shares much of its design DNA with Sony’s flagship WH-1000XM6, widely regarded as some of the best wireless headphones available today, but at a $100 lower price point.

The H9 II utilizes the same 30mm drivers found in the XM6, which bodes well for its audio performance across gaming soundtracks, movies, and music. Coupled with Sony’s renowned audio processing technology, the headphones can create a virtual 7.1 surround sound experience when fed multi-channel audio.

In addition to exceptional sound, these headphones feature active noise cancellation in both wireless and wired modes. They come with a long, adjustable boom mic designed to clearly pick up voices while filtering out background noise, thanks to AI-optimized precision. Connectivity is versatile, offering a USB-C dongle with ultra-low-latency 2.4GHz wireless, plus support for Bluetooth with LE Audio, allowing simultaneous connection to your phone for calls and notifications during gameplay.

Battery life matches Sony’s flagship standards, providing up to 30 hours of use in non-ANC mode—though this is slightly less than the XM6, where ANC is active. A quick five-minute charge offers around three hours of gaming.

The headphones weigh just a few grams more than the XM6, making them about 17% lighter than the original InZone H9. They are available in black and white finishes, currently for pre-order at $350.

Moving to the E9 model, Sony introduces a series newcomer rather than a sequel. These wired in-ear monitors, developed in partnership with British esports company Fnatic, feature audio tuning designed for gamers. They come with both noise-isolating foam and silicone tips in various sizes, ensuring comfort for extended wear and effective passive noise isolation.

The InZone Hub for PC connects via USB-C, allowing users to customize sound profiles, adjust EQ settings, and manage 7.1-channel and spatial audio preferences. The E9 monitors are offered in black and white and can be pre-ordered now for $150.

  • Microsoft’s Upcoming Surface Devices: Smaller, Cheaper, Arm-Ready

Microsoft’s Upcoming Surface Devices: Smaller, Cheaper, Arm-Ready

As Microsoft gears up for its upcoming event on May 6, the tech giant seems poised to introduce a new range of Surface devices aimed at strengthening its presence in the Arm-powered PC sector. Reports from the German site WinFuture suggest that Microsoft is developing a new 12-inch Surface Pro and a compact 13-inch Surface Laptop, both utilizing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Plus technology.

The anticipated 12-inch Surface Pro brings back a smaller size reminiscent of previous models like the Surface Pro 3, yet it incorporates modern Arm-based hardware. It will feature a PixelSense Flow LCD display and be powered by the Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100 chip, which includes eight custom Oryon CPU cores and an integrated Hexagon NPU capable of reaching up to 45 TOPS (trillion operations per second) of AI performance.

The device is expected to come with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and will offer storage options of either 256GB or 512GB using UFS technology, which is faster and more economical than traditional NVMe SSDs. However, this choice means that the storage will no longer be user-replaceable.

Battery life is projected to be impressive, offering up to 16 hours for local video playback. The device will include two USB 3.2 Type-C ports and will be available in Ocean Blue, Platinum Gray, and Violet, all accompanied by matching accessories.

These new models reflect a strategic pivot for Microsoft, as they seem to be promoting a more accessible and energy-efficient Surface line, likely setting the stage for the next advancements in Windows on Arm expected in the upcoming major Windows release.

The official announcement is anticipated during Microsoft’s event on May 6, where details regarding pricing, availability, and further specifications for these new Surface products may be revealed.

  • Alienware Launches Faster, Cheaper 34-Inch QD-OLED Monitor

Alienware Launches Faster, Cheaper 34-Inch QD-OLED Monitor

Alienware has announced the AW3425DW, a successor to the well-received AW3423DW launched in 2023. This new 34-inch ultrawide gaming monitor features Samsung’s second-generation QD-OLED panel. With a resolution of 3440 x 1440 and an impressive 240Hz refresh rate coupled with a 0.03ms GTG (Gray-to-Gray) response time, it promises a quick and responsive gaming experience while delivering excellent visual quality.

The AW3425DW is compatible with both Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, alongside VESA AdaptiveSync, ensuring that gamers enjoy smooth, tear-free gameplay. It’s equipped with 99.3% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, a stunning peak brightness of up to 1000 nits, and holds VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification for deep contrast and vibrant visuals. The monitor features an 1800R curvature for enhanced immersion and supports multiple connectivity options, including DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.1, USB-A, and USB-C with a charging capability of up to 15W.

Available for $799 in the U.S., the AW3425DW is set to roll out to additional markets soon. Like its predecessor, it comes with a three-year burn-in warranty, which is a crucial aspect for OLED monitors concerned with long-term image retention.

When compared to the earlier AW3423DW, the AW3425DW increases the refresh rate from 175Hz to 240Hz and features enhanced thermal management thanks to its graphene-based heatsink. The aesthetic has also been refreshed, transitioning from Alienware’s previous Lunar Light finish to a darker Interstellar Indigo color scheme, complete with slim bezels for a modern look.

The most striking difference is the lower price point. Launching at $799, the AW3425DW offers a significant reduction from the original AW3423DW’s $1,299 price tag, making QD-OLED technology more accessible to gamers. Notably, the AW3423DW has since dropped to match this new price.

  • Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti Could Be More Affordable Than Anticipated

Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti Could Be More Affordable Than Anticipated

The launch of Nvidia’s RTX 5060 Ti is imminent, and excitement is in the air. The focus isn’t solely on how it will perform against other top-tier graphics cards; it’s also on the potential pricing that gamers are anxious about during the current GPU shortage. Fortunately, there are encouraging signs that the price point might be more favorable than initially feared.

A recent leak from Board Channels suggests that the RTX 5060 Ti will match the pricing of its predecessors. For clarity, it’s anticipated that the RTX 5060 Ti will come in two configurations: one featuring 16GB VRAM and the other with 8GB. Previous rumors indicated that the 16GB variant could launch at $499, consistent with the last generation’s pricing, while the 8GB model might be priced at $399.

Initially, I thought this was fairly positive news, since it suggested we might avoid a price hike. However, as reported by IT Home, there’s even better news on the horizon: a potential price cut.

According to IT Home, Nvidia has shared the official MSRP with its add-in card (AIC) partners, and the results are better than many anticipated. The prices are reportedly set at $379 for the 8GB model and $429 for the 16GB model, representing a significant decrease for the 16GB variant and a modest $20 reduction for the 8GB version.

Details about the RTX 5060 haven’t been disclosed yet, although it is expected to be unveiled alongside its counterparts on April 15. If the RTX 5060 Ti starts at $379, we could estimate the RTX 5060 to be around $300 to $320, but that remains speculative until the official announcement. Until Nvidia provides further updates, we can only make educated guesses.

The Nintendo Switch has been a major player in the gaming industry since its release in 2017. As its popularity continues, many gamers are wondering: will the price of the Switch drop in the near future? With various factors influencing pricing decisions, it’s worth exploring the possibilities.

    Factors Influencing Pricing

A number of elements can affect whether or not the Nintendo Switch will become cheaper. Here are some of the most significant:

    • Release of New Models: The introduction of newer hardware or updates, such as the OLED model, often leads to reduced prices for earlier versions.

    • Market Demand: The desire for the console affects its price. If demand decreases or if competition increases, prices may drop.

    • Seasonal Sales: Major retail events like Black Friday and holiday sales can prompt temporary discounts.

    • Game Bundles: Promotional packages that include games with the console can create perceived savings, effectively reducing the price for consumers.

    Current Pricing Trends

To understand where the Switch’s pricing may be headed, let’s take a look at its current market position and historical pricing trends:

    Price History

    • Launch Price: The standard Nintendo Switch launched at a price of $299.99.

    • OLED Model: The OLED version was introduced at $349.99, reflecting enhancements in display and audio.

    • Price Adjustments: Over the years, Nintendo has seen pricing variations based on demand and competitive pressures from other consoles.

    Competitor Pricing

    • Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5: With these competitors consistently offering discounts and bundles, Nintendo may feel pressured to respond with their own pricing adjustments.

    Predictions for Future Pricing

While it’s impossible to predict the future with certainty, several indicators suggest the possibility of a price drop for the Nintendo Switch:

    Upcoming Console Releases

    • Next-Gen Consoles: If competitors release newer versions of their hardware or upgraded models, Nintendo may adjust the Switch’s pricing to remain relevant.

    Cost of Components

    • Supply Chain Dynamics: The cost of materials used in manufacturing can fluctuate. If costs decrease, Nintendo might pass those savings on to consumers.

    Potential Price Strategies

Here are some pricing strategies Nintendo might consider:

    • Regular Discounts: Scheduled sales events could become more common as the gaming market evolves.

    • Refurbished Options: Offering refurbished units at lower prices could attract budget-conscious consumers.

    • Game Bundles: Continuing to pair the Switch with popular game titles can enhance value without reducing the base price.

    Conclusion

As the gaming landscape evolves, the potential for a price drop on the Nintendo Switch remains. Factors like market trends, competition, and sales strategies will play significant roles in determining the future pricing of this beloved console. Gamers will need to keep an eye on developments to seize the best opportunities for purchasing the Nintendo Switch at a potentially lower price.

  • Why Are 3rd Generation AirPods Cheaper?

Why Are 3rd Generation AirPods Cheaper?

The release of Apple’s 3rd Generation AirPods brought a wave of excitement among tech enthusiasts and casual users alike. However, one question that surfaced was why these models are priced lower compared to their predecessors and counterparts. In this article, we will explore various factors contributing to the more affordable pricing of the 3rd Generation AirPods.

    Cost-Effective Design Choices

Apple often makes strategic decisions in the design and manufacturing process to manage costs. The 3rd Generation AirPods are no exception.

    Simpler Manufacturing

    • Fewer Components: The 3rd Gen AirPods may contain fewer parts than the AirPods Pro, reducing assembly complexity and cost.
    • Material Choices: Apple might have opted for more cost-effective materials, which help lower production expenses without compromising on quality.

    Production Scalability

    • Mass Production: Increased production capacity can lead to economies of scale. As AirPods become more popular, Apple can leverage larger manufacturing runs to reduce the cost per unit.
    • Established Supply Chain: With the growing familiarity of AirPods, Apple has streamlined its supply chain, thereby lowering costs associated with logistics and materials.

    Features vs. Price Trade-off

Another significant reason for the lower pricing revolves around the features offered in the 3rd Generation model compared to its more premium counterparts.

    Reduced Feature Set

    • No Active Noise Cancellation: Unlike the AirPods Pro, which feature advanced noise cancelling technology, the 3rd Generation AirPods forgo this functionality.
    • Basic Controls: The 3rd Gen models might offer simpler controls compared to the more feature-rich AirPods Max.

    Simplified User Experience

    • Target Market: The 3rd Generation AirPods are designed for users looking for a seamless audio experience without the need for bells and whistles.
    • Straightforward Pairing: Apple emphasizes ease of use, focusing on features that appeal to everyday consumers rather than tech enthusiasts.

    Market Positioning Strategy

Apple’s pricing strategy also plays a key role in the affordability of the 3rd Generation AirPods.

    Competitive Pricing

    • Targeting the Entry-Level Market: By pricing the 3rd Gen models lower, Apple caters to entry-level users and those who may have been holding off on purchasing previous versions because of their price.
    • Broadening the Audience: Lower pricing allows Apple to tap into new demographics, such as younger customers or budget-conscious individuals.

    Seasonal Promotions

    • Sales and Discounts: The introduction of new products often means existing models see price drops as part of seasonal promotions. The 3rd Gen AirPods may benefit from these promotional strategies to enhance sales.

    Updated Technology and Features

Despite being cheaper, the 3rd Generation AirPods still incorporate several advancements that enhance their value.

    Enhanced Sound Quality

    • Improved Audio Drivers: The new models feature upgraded audio drivers that provide better sound clarity and a more balanced audio experience.
    • Spatial Audio: With support for spatial audio, these earbuds deliver an immersive listening experience that rivals higher-end models.

    Battery Life Improvements

    • Longer Playtime: The 3rd Gen AirPods are equipped with efficient battery technology, allowing longer listening times compared to previous generations.

    Consumer Demand and Expectations

An essential factor influencing the price is consumer demand and their resulting expectations.

    High Demand and Volume Sales

    • Popularity of AirPods: The continuous demand for AirPods provides Apple with the incentive to keep prices attractive and thereby sell higher volumes.
    • User Feedback: Consumer preferences may shape model offerings, leading Apple to create products that feel accessible while still meeting price expectations.

    Changing Market Trends

    • Increasing Competitors: With more brands entering the wireless earbud market, competitive pricing becomes a crucial strategy to maintain market share.
    • Consumer Budgeting: Many potential buyers have become more budget-conscious, prompting brands to adapt their offerings to woo these price-sensitive consumers.

The dynamics surrounding the release of the 3rd Generation AirPods illustrate how various factors contribute to their reduced pricing. By making wise choices in design, targeting the right audience, and responding to market demands, Apple continues to evolve while keeping affordability in check.

  • Is It Cheaper to Buy an Unlocked Phone?

Is It Cheaper to Buy an Unlocked Phone?

When considering a new smartphone, consumers often grapple with the decision of whether to purchase an unlocked phone or opt for a carrier-specific model. An unlocked phone offers the flexibility to use different networks without being tied to a specific carrier. But is it more cost-effective in the long run? Let’s delve into the factors that influence the pricing of unlocked phones compared to those locked to a carrier.

    Understanding Unlocked vs. Locked Phones

    Unlocked Phones:

    • Freedom: You can choose any carrier that offers compatible services.
    • No Contract: Typically, there are no lengthy contracts, allowing you to switch providers according to your needs.
    • Global Use: Unlocked phones can be used internationally with local SIM cards, providing cost-effective options while traveling.

    Locked Phones:

    • Carrier Specificity: These phones are tied to a particular network provider.
    • Subsidized Pricing: Carriers often offer lower upfront costs, but users commit to one carrier for a set duration.
    • Limited Flexibility: Switching networks usually involves fees or unlocking procedures.

Cost Breakdown: Unlocked vs. Locked Phones

To truly assess whether an unlocked phone is cheaper, we must look at the total costs involved.

    1. Upfront Purchase Price:

      • Unlocked phones usually have a higher initial price tag.
      • Locked phones can be significantly subsidized by carriers, especially through promotional deals.

    2. Monthly Plans:

      • Unlocked Options: Many unlocked phones are compatible with budget carriers, which can lower monthly bills.
      • Locked Plans: These may include higher monthly charges due to the carrier’s pricing strategies and plans.

    3. Long-Term Costs:

      • Switching to a more affordable plan after the initial purchase of an unlocked phone can lead to savings.
      • Locked phones often require users to stick with a plan for 24 months, potentially resulting in higher overall costs.

    Additional Considerations

When evaluating the affordability of an unlocked phone, consider these additional aspects:

    • Resale Value:

      • Unlocked phones often retain higher resale values because they are not tied to a specific carrier.

    • Carrier Promotions:

      • Some carriers offer discounts or trade-in deals that make locked phones financially appealing initially.

    • Compatibility:

      • Ensure that the unlocked phone is compatible with the desired carrier’s networks. It might lead to additional costs if an incompatible phone needs to be replaced.

    • Financing Options:

      • Carrier contracts can come with financing plans that ease the financial burden but often lead to higher prices in the long run.

Pros and Cons of Unlocked Phones

Here’s a summarized view to help visualize the pros and cons of choosing an unlocked phone:

    Pros:

    • Greater flexibility in choosing carriers.
    • No long-term contracts.
    • Potential savings on monthly bills if paired with budget carriers.
    • Better resale value.

    Cons:

    • Higher initial cost.
    • Limited warranty options compared to carrier purchases.
    • Lack of carrier support for issues related to the phone.

In summary, the decision to purchase an unlocked phone versus a locked one hinges on individual needs and financial considerations. By evaluating the upfront costs, long-term savings, and additional factors, consumers can make a more informed choice that best suits their lifestyles and budgets.

  • Is It Cheaper to Have a Full Fridge?

Is It Cheaper to Have a Full Fridge?

When considering grocery expenses and energy costs, one question often arises: Is it more economical to keep a full fridge? This article delves into the financial implications of a fully stocked refrigerator, examining both food savings and energy efficiency.

    The Cost of Groceries

Having a full fridge can lead to various financial benefits concerning grocery shopping.

    Bulk Buying Benefits

    • Lower Unit Prices: Purchasing in bulk typically offers a lower price per item, which can lead to considerable savings.
    • Avoiding Impulse Buys: A well-stocked fridge helps curb the desire for last-minute convenience purchases that can strain your budget.

    Reducing Food Waste

    • Meal Planning: A full fridge often encourages better meal planning, which can help utilize all purchased food and minimize waste.
    • Food Lifespan: When a refrigerator is full, consistent temperatures are maintained better, helping keep food fresh for longer periods.

    Energy Efficiency Considerations

While a full fridge might aid in saving food costs, it can also influence energy expenses.

    Temperature Regulation

    • Energy Star Ratings: Modern refrigerators are designed to be energy efficient. Full fridges maintain lower temperatures more effectively, reducing the energy used to cool off after the door is opened.
    • Less Empty Space: A fridge with items takes less energy to maintain a cool environment than an empty one, as cold air is more stable among food items.

    Overloading Risks

    • Airflow: Overloading a fridge can block airflow, making it work harder and potentially increasing energy consumption.
    • Ideal Organization: Keeping your fridge organized ensures that it is full without being overstuffed, allowing for efficient operation.

The Balance of Keeping It Full

To maximize the benefits of a full fridge while minimizing potential drawbacks, consider the following:

    Smart Stocking

    • Prioritize Essentials: Focus on stocking items that you regularly consume to prevent spoilage and waste.
    • Limit Perishables: While a full fridge is advantageous, including only the items you are likely to use up quickly is best.

    Regular Audits

    • Check Inventory: Regularly go through your fridge to decide what needs to be consumed soon, minimizing food waste.
    • Plan Accordingly: Use what is in your fridge to dictate your shopping list, ensuring you maintain a balance between stock and usage.

Financial Implications of a Full Fridge

Assessing the financial impact of a full fridge involves looking at both the initial grocery costs and long-term savings.

    Misconceptions About Costs

    • Initial Investment: A full fridge may require a larger upfront grocery cost, but this should be seen as an investment in future meals.
    • Potential Savings: The savings from reduced food waste and energy efficiency often outweigh the initial expense.

    Tracking Expenses

    • Keep Records: Maintain a budget for grocery expenses and track savings from reduced waste and lower energy bills.
    • Adjust as Needed: Regularly revise your buying habits based on observed spending patterns to optimize costs.

By understanding the true costs and benefits associated with a full fridge, homeowners can make informed decisions that can lead to long-term savings while also promoting a more sustainable lifestyle.

  • AMD Ryzen 5 9600X Price Drops Nearly $50 in Two Months

AMD Ryzen 5 9600X Price Drops Nearly $50 in Two Months

AMD has recently launched its Zen 5 processors, hitting the market just over two months ago. As they work to establish their presence among the top contenders, regular discounts are making these chips more appealing to buyers. Currently, the Ryzen 5 9600X is available for nearly $50 less than its initial suggested retail price.

The Ryzen 5 9600X stands out as the most affordable option in the latest lineup, debuting at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $280—$10 cheaper than its predecessor. While this price drop is welcome, it still exceeds the launch price of the 7600X, which has seen multiple price reductions since its release. Presently, the 7600X can be found for around $225, though it’s possible to nab it for even less.

You can currently purchase the Ryzen 5 9600X for $234 on platforms like Amazon and Newegg, according to VideoCardz. The listed price might be higher, but a coupon can reduce the cost by an additional $15. If you’re on Amazon, just check the box next to Apply $15 coupon. For Newegg shoppers, the promo code BFDDYA56 is needed to claim the same discount, bringing the total to $234.

The AMD Ryzen 7 9700X installed in a motherboard.
    Jacob Roach / Digital Trends

The Ryzen 5 9600X features six cores, 12 threads, and a total cache of 38MB, with a maximum clock speed of 5.4GHz. In our analysis of the CPU, we observed a slight increase in performance over the previous generation. The Zen 5 architecture is generally superior in productivity, making the 9600X a solid option for those not necessarily focused on gaming. While the 7800X3D remains the top choice for gamers, the upcoming 9800X3D may challenge that status. Nevertheless, the 9600X is a cost-effective option for building a PC that utilizes the AM5 socket.

Although the Ryzen 5 9600X and 7600X offer similar performance (only a few percentage points differentiate them in various benchmarks), the 9600X benefits from an increase in thermal power design (TDP), updated to 105 watts from 65 watts via a BIOS update, thereby unlocking additional performance potential. This and other enhancements give the 9600X a slight edge over its predecessor.

With the previous Ryzen 5 7600X priced just $10 lower, take advantage of this discount to upgrade to the newer generation from AMD. While this discount may not be officially sanctioned by AMD, its future availability remains uncertain.

  • Long Wait Ahead For A Cheaper Vision Pro

Long Wait Ahead For A Cheaper Vision Pro

It seems that Apple has decided to put the development of a more budget-friendly alternative to its $3,500 Vision Pro mixed-reality headset on hold. In January of this year, The Information reported that a less expensive variant with simplified features could be released sometime in 2025.

Recently, well-known supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo indicated that this cost-effective headset may not be available for purchase in the next three years. Kuo stated on X, “As far as I know, the production of the lower-priced Vision Pro has been postponed beyond 2027 for some time now.”

Per a report from Bloomberg, Apple had plans to release a lower-priced model even before the Vision Pro’s debut. Initially codenamed N107, this version was anticipated to arrive by late 2025.

Apple was reportedly aiming for a pricing range between $1,500 and $2,000 for this trimmed-down model, which would likely omit certain features like the EyeSight display and potentially utilize lower-resolution screens.A person wearing the Apple Vision Pro demo unit in an Apple Store.

However, the Vision Pro has faced a lukewarm reception, partly due to the absence of compelling use cases. Kuo echoed this sentiment, suggesting that Apple’s decision to delay the lower-cost Vision Pro stems from the realization that simply lowering the price would not generate effective use cases.

Kuo also mentioned that Apple could use the time to release an updated Vision Pro featuring the next-gen M5 silicon, as the current model relies on the 8-core M2 processor paired with an R1 co-processor.

In response to a user’s question on the same platform, Kuo emphasized that what Apple considers an affordable alternative to the Vision Pro might still be perceived as expensive when judged against its competitors. This situation is further complicated by the specialized software ecosystem associated with the headset.

Looking at the broader industry, gaming remains the leading force driving demand in the extended reality (XR) wearables market, yet mainstream options are considerably more budget-friendly. For instance, the Meta Quest 3S starts at just $300, while the Quest 3 is available for around $500, frequently discounted.

The flagship Quest Pro, by contrast, has a price tag of $1,000. Additionally, devices like Xreal, RayNeo, and Viture have established a loyal following in the smart glasses sector, primarily targeting content consumption and gaming enthusiasts.

Both Meta and Snap have recently showcased their visions for advanced VR applications, with Google and Samsung also developing their own smart glasses. Qualcomm is expected to supply the required silicon, according to CNBC.

Apple has not officially addressed its plans for smart glasses, although speculation suggests that the company is considering this direction for the future. Until further developments occur, Apple’s XR strategy likely hinges on the Vision line’s success. Whether Apple can establish itself as a significant player in this competitive space remains to be seen.
