  • How to Fix and Complete Your Ship in Windrose

How to Fix and Complete Your Ship in Windrose

When you start playing Windrose, things might feel tough at first. Without a good ship, you’re stuck on the starting islands with very limited resources. Luckily, there’s a way to get a better ship so you can head back into the open sea and begin your adventure of plundering.

Here’s how to get your first ship, upgrade it, and grow your fleet of powerful vessels to challenge Blackbeard and his crew. There’s a lot to do if you want to unlock your full potential, so dive in now.

How to Get a Larger Boat

After your ship is destroyed, you’re left with a tiny, slow dinghy to get around. As you play through the main story and reunite with the doctor, you’ll discover that there are several shipwrecks nearby worth exploring.

One of these shipwrecks is still usable if you can find it. You’ll need the ship if you plan to sail to Tortuga and earn your reputation as a pirate.

    Where to Find a Ship

Check your map for markers that show shipwreck locations. If you’re not using quest markers, look along the shores of smaller nearby islands. These locations should have ships resting nearby. Usually, they’re close together, but if you see one broken in half, it’s not worth pursuing. You’re looking for a mostly intact Ketch — there’s just one of its kind.

When you find the ship, you’ll need the following materials to repair it:

    • 100 Wood
    • 10 Ropes
    • 20 Coarse Fabric
    • 20 Nails

Make sure these materials are in your inventory, not just in storage at your camp.

Once the ship is fixed, the next step is to gather a crew for it.

    How to Find a Crew

You’ll see several pirates trapped in cages around the starting islands, guarded by Blackbeard’s men. To set sail, you need to free them.

Each camp has about two pirates, so you’ll need to raid three camps plus free the first pirate you encounter in the main story. After freeing all seven pirates, return to your repaired ship and assemble your crew.

    How to Use Your Ship

After gathering the crew, your ship is ready to set sail. You can leave right away, but it’s best to wait a moment. By default, your ship doesn’t have extra defenses or cannons installed.

    How to Upgrade Your Ship

To strengthen your vessel, build a shipwright’s workshop to craft cannons and boarding gear. Then, construct a wharf to install these upgrades. Once done, your ship will be ready for real pirate adventures.

From the shipwright’s workshop, you can manage and build new ships, ensuring they’re in good shape before heading into battle. You can also summon your ships anywhere nearby with the appropriate key (on PC, it’s the K key).

    How to Sail Your Ship

Onboard, head to the helm and use the wheel to steer or manage your cargo. Your cargo holds extra materials you can transport, so use it to carry supplies between camps or take on Blackbeard’s forces.

Initially, your options for ships are limited. As you improve your skills and build good relationships with different factions, more blueprints will unlock, allowing you to build bigger and stronger ships to defeat Blackbeard.

To sail, use the standard movement controls. Remember, sailing faster means less control. You can use your camera and right mouse button to aim your shots while on the sea, and the left mouse button to fire cannons.

    Docking and Leaving the Ship

There’s no formal docking system. To disembark, press the same button used to take the helm and step away. You can then jump into the water and swim to shore. Just make sure you stay close enough so you don’t run out of stamina and drown before reaching land.

  • At least 31 Dead in Gambia New Year’s Migrant Boat Disaster

At least 31 Dead in Gambia New Year’s Migrant Boat Disaster

On New Year’s Eve off the coast of Gambia, at least 31 individuals drowned when a boat overloaded with undocumented migrants capsized, according to local authorities. The death toll has since increased, with the government reporting that many others are missing and presumed dead.

The government provided an update, stating that recovery efforts have confirmed 15 bodies in Gambia and 16 in Senegal. Additionally, 102 people were rescued, with 23 requiring hospitalization. The tragedy highlights the perilous journeys undertaken by thousands, predominantly young people, attempting to reach Europe from West Africa. These journeys often involve overcrowded, decaying boats heading mainly towards the Spanish Canary Islands, driven by visa restrictions and heightened border enforcement.

Recently, migrants have been forced to depart from Ethiopia and Guinea, further south along the coast, which has extended and complicated their sea crossings amid increased maritime patrols by Senegal, Mauritania, and Morocco. During this latest incident, a vessel carrying more than 200 individuals issued a distress call on the night of December 31 into January 1 near the North Bank region. The Gambian Navy responded promptly, launching a search involving multiple ships and a fishing boat. The damaged vessel was eventually located on a sandbank.

The government’s statement notes the grim outcomes of the search, with confirmed recoveries and the rescue of over a hundred survivors. President Adama Barrow expressed national mourning over the disaster.

In related patrols, police intercepted 123 migrants aboard a vessel in Senegal’s Thies region on Tuesday.

  • Four Dead as Two Migrant Boats Capsize Off Libya, Red Crescent Reports

Four Dead as Two Migrant Boats Capsize Off Libya, Red Crescent Reports

At least four individuals lost their lives after two boats carrying a total of 95 irregular migrants capsized off the coast of Al Khums, Libya, according to the Libyan Red Crescent. The first vessel, which had 26 Bangladeshis aboard, resulted in four fatalities. The second boat, carrying 69 migrants—including two Egyptians and numerous Sudanese—was also involved in the sinking, with their status remaining unknown.

Khums is a port city situated approximately 118 kilometers east of Tripoli. The International Organization for Migration reported that 42 migrants went missing and are presumed dead after a rubber boat went down near the Al Buri oil field, an offshore facility located to the north-northwest of Libya.

Libya has increasingly become a transit point for migrants fleeing unrest and economic hardship, seeking passage across the Mediterranean to Europe, especially since the 2011 overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi in a NATO-supported uprising. Images released by the Khums Red Crescent depict a line of bodies wrapped in black plastic bags laid out on the ground, with volunteers providing first aid to survivors. Other photos show migrants wrapped in thermal blankets sitting on the floor.

The rescue operation involved the Libyan Coast Guard and the Khums Port Security Agency. The bodies were handed over to legal authorities in accordance with directives from the local public prosecutor.

In October, authorities recovered the bodies of 61 migrants along the coastline west of Tripoli. Earlier in September, the IOM confirmed at least 50 people had died after a vessel with 75 Sudanese refugees caught fire off the Libyan coast. Several countries, including the UK, Spain, Norway, and Sierra Leone, last week urged Libya during a UN meeting in Geneva to shut detention centers where human rights groups report torture, abuse, and sometimes killings of migrants and refugees.

  • Seventeen B die in Aegean migrant boat sinking in latest disaster

Seventeen B die in Aegean migrant boat sinking in latest disaster

Sixteen migrants and a smuggler drowned after their inflatable boat capsized early Friday in the Aegean Sea near Bodrum, Turkey, according to the coast guard. Two others were rescued alive. The authorities have not disclosed the victims’ nationalities. The incident marks the latest tragedy among a series of migrant deaths along the narrow but dangerous route between the Turkish coast and Greek islands such as Samos, Rhodes, and Lesbos, which serve as entry points into Europe.

“The bodies of 16 illegal migrants and a trafficker have been recovered,” the coast guard reported, noting that rescue operations are ongoing. Earlier, the local governor’s office had reported 14 migrant deaths and stated on social media that one migrant had managed to alert rescue teams.

One of the survivors, an Afghan, told rescuers that their boat sank just ten minutes after it started taking on water. He said he swam for six hours to reach Celebi Island. Authorities have not confirmed the nationalities of the other migrants. Bodrum is located less than three miles from the Greek island of Kos.

Search and rescue efforts are continuing with four coast guard vessels, a specialized diving team, and a helicopter involved. The Aegean Sea is a common transit route for thousands of migrants fleeing North Africa and the Middle East, especially from Turkey—home to millions of refugees from Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

In 2019, Turkey’s migration authorities recorded nearly 455,000 irregular crossings, mostly from Afghanistan and Syria. According to the Missing Migrants Project run by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), almost 1,400 migrants have died trying to reach Europe by sea this year. Turkey, which signed an agreement with the European Union in 2016 to curb illegal migration, currently hosts more than 2.5 million refugees, predominantly Syrians.

  • Over 20 Killed in Lampedusa Shipwreck Off Italy

Over 20 Killed in Lampedusa Shipwreck Off Italy

At least 20 migrants lost their lives after their boat capsized in the Mediterranean on Wednesday, with many others still unaccounted for, according to the UNHCR.

“Heartbreaking news from the latest shipwreck off Lampedusa, where UNHCR is now assisting the survivors. So far, authorities have recovered around 20 bodies, with a number still missing,” wrote UNHCR spokesperson Filippo Ungaro on social media.

Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi confirmed the incident, stating that the shipwreck happened 14 nautical miles from Lampedusa. The vessel carried approximately 97 people when it overturned, reports Radio Radicale.

Details are still limited, but Save the Children Italy has reported that a one-and-a-half-year-old girl appears to be among those lost in the wreck. Rai Radio 1 indicated that between 12 and 17 migrants are missing, and about 60 survivors have been rescued and brought to safety on the island. The boat, already overturned, was spotted from the air by an Italian financial police plane.

Migrants attempting to reach Italy from North Africa frequently cross in overcrowded or poorly maintained boats through the central Mediterranean, one of the world’s deadliest migration routes, arriving on Lampedusa.

UNHCR data shows that there have been 675 migrant deaths on this route so far in 2023. As of Wednesday, Italy’s interior ministry reports that 38,263 migrants have reached its shores this year.

Piantedosi emphasized on social media that this tragedy highlights the urgent need to prevent dangerous sea journeys before departure and to crack down on the ruthless traffickers fueling this crisis. The right-wing government of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has negotiated agreements with North African nations, providing funding and training to help curb departures and stem the flow of migrants attempting the perilous crossing.

  • Ha Long Bay Tragedy: 28 Confirmed Dead in Boat Capsizing

Ha Long Bay Tragedy: 28 Confirmed Dead in Boat Capsizing

Tourist boats navigating in Halong Bay, Vietnam.

Tragedy struck on Saturday when a tourist boat carrying families capsized in Vietnam’s renowned Ha Long Bay, claiming the lives of at least 28 individuals, with several others still unaccounted for, according to reports from state media.

At the time of the incident, the vessel was transporting 48 passengers and five crew members when it overturned in the UNESCO World Heritage site due to sudden, severe rainfall, as reported by the Dan Tri news outlet.

The majority of those aboard were families visiting from Hanoi, the capital, including over 20 children among the passengers, as per a news report from VNExpress.

“Border guards managed to rescue 12 individuals and have located 18 bodies,” the report stated.

Rescue operations are expected to continue into the night to locate those still missing.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and urged the ministries of defense and public security to initiate an immediate search and rescue operation.

Authorities committed to “investigate and ascertain the cause of the incident and take strict action against any violations,” as mentioned in a government statement.

Tran Trong Hung, a local resident in the Ha Long Bay area, recounted to AFP, “The sky turned dark around 2 PM.” He explained that there were “hailstones the size of grapes accompanied by heavy rain, storms, and lightning.”

Torrential rain also affected northern regions such as Hanoi, Thai Nguyen, and Bac Ninh provinces on the same day.

In Hanoi, strong winds toppled several trees.

This storm followed three days of extreme heat, with temperatures reaching as high as 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit in certain areas.

Mai Van Khiem, director of the National Centre for Hydrometeorological Forecasting, mentioned in VNExpress that the thunderstorms in northern Vietnam were not influenced by Tropical Storm Wipha in the South China Sea.

Ha Long Bay is one of Vietnam’s most sought-after tourist destinations, drawing millions of visitors annually to its stunning blue-green waters and limestone islands crowned with rainforests.

Last year, 30 boats sank in coastal Quang Ninh province, specifically in boat lock areas along Ha Long Bay, after Typhoon Yagi produced intense winds and waves.

Earlier this month, a ferry sank near Bali, a popular Indonesian tourist spot, resulting in at least 18 fatalities.

Rescue Efforts Underway After Boat Capsizes in Indonesia

In Jakarta, rescue teams are diligently searching for 11 individuals who are still unaccounted for following an accident involving a boat that capsized amid rough seas near the Mentawai Islands in West Sumatra province. This incident, which took place on Monday morning, has so far seen the successful rescue of eight passengers.

The boat was carrying 18 people, including ten local government employees, when it departed from Sikakap heading to a nearby town in the Mentawai Islands, as reported by local authorities.

On Tuesday, responders mobilized two boats and numerous rescuers in their quest to locate the missing individuals.

In Indonesia, where over 17,000 islands form an extensive archipelago, ferries and boats are frequently used for transportation. However, accidents are not uncommon due to adverse weather conditions and inadequate safety regulations, which often result in overcrowded vessels.

Earlier this month, a ferry tragedy occurred near Bali, claiming the lives of 18 of the 65 passengers onboard, while 30 survived, and 17 remain missing.

  • Fixing Your Farm Boat on Luma Island: A Quick Guide

Fixing Your Farm Boat on Luma Island: A Quick Guide

    Quick Links

The Jungle is the fourth area you can explore in Luma Island, situated far from the main island. Traveling there doesn’t involve flying; instead, you’ll need to sail, but the townsfolk are unable to help, as the pier is still damaged and many boats are unusable.

Additionally, the Lighthouse requires repairs for a safe journey, and you’ll need a map to navigate to the Jungle. Your best bet is to fix the broken boat on your farm. However, gathering the necessary materials means confronting challenges in both the Forest and the Mountain regions.

    How to Repair the Boat

The boat you need to access the Jungle is found on your farm’s beach, near the center of the map. It’s the same one located close to where you start the game.

To gather all the materials necessary for the boat’s repair, you’ll have to unlock access to the previous areas: the Forest and the Mountains. You’ll also need resources from these locations and to repair two important structures in town: the General Store and the Lighthouse.

In total, you’ll require six materials: three specialty items you have to find and three that can be crafted:

    • Lost Jungle Island Map
    • Boat Motor
    • Propeller
    • Mountain Wood Planks
    • Moonstone Bars
    • Mountain Coloring

You’ll need to complete certain quests or locate specific areas to obtain the three specialty items, similar to how you acquired the Cogwheel for the Cable Car.

Materials Needed and How to Obtain Them

    Material How to Obtain
Mountain Wood Planks x50 Refine Mountain Wood in a Sawmill, obtained by chopping trees on the Mountain.
Moonstone Bar x25 Smelt Moonstone Ore in an Ore Smelter, found by mining nodes in the Frozen Mountain Cave.
Mountain Coloring x50 Craft using Mountain Berries at a Simple Workbench; found on the surface and in Mountain Temples.

How to Get the Lost Jungle Island Map

To acquire the Lost Jungle Island Map, you’ll need to repair the Lighthouse, which was damaged during an earthquake on Day Five. This repair process involves two stages.

First Repair Stage: You must first repair the General Store, as it’s the only place that sells the needed scaffolding. Altogether, you will need five Fiber, ten Forest Wood Planks, 15 Forest Stone Blocks, five Iron Bars, and 25 Glass between both stages of repair.

Materials Required for the Lighthouse Repair

    Stage One:

    • Silk Rope x15: Crafted using Spider Silk.
    • Mountain Wood Plank x30: Refined from Mountain Wood.
    • Scaffolding x10: Purchased from the General Store (costs 2,000 Gold each).

    Stage Two:

    • Mountain Stone Block x50: Refined from Mountain Stone, obtained by breaking boulders on the Mountain.
    • Moonstone Bar x30: Smelted from Moonstone Ore.
    • Glass x20: Smelted from Sand using a Kiln.
    • Cement x15: Crafted from Calcium, Sand, and Charcoal in a Kiln.

Once you have all the materials ready for each stage, click on the Lighthouse to complete the repairs. After finishing, talk to Nelson to collect your reward, which is the Lost Jungle Island Map.

How to Get the Boat Motor

For the Boat Motor, you don’t need to do anything special to unlock it; it’s simply always available at the Fisherman’s Shop. However, it costs 100,000 Gold. To gather enough gold, you should aim for at least a Skilled or Expert level in your chosen profession to unlock more profitable recipes.

Tip: Opening purple chests in the Forest and Mountains yields valuable jewelry that can significantly help with your gold needs. Once you’ve earned the gold, visit the Fisherman’s Shop anytime to buy the Boat Motor for your repair.

    How to Get the Propeller

The Propeller, another essential component for the boat, can be obtained after unlocking the Mountain and reaching its highest point.

This trek is filled with challenges. Start by following the path leading from the Cable Car platform to the northeast, making your way to the northwestern corner. As you climb, you’ll encounter various obstacles such as rolling snowballs that can knock you back, sections with falling snow, repairing scaffolding to block snowballs, and a Snowstorm Prism that emits deadly beams.

Navigate these hazards carefully to reach the top of the Mountain, where you’ll find the Propeller at an unfinished campsite, next to one of the shortcut caves and a Red Chest that contains the drawing for the Villa.

What Can You Find in the Jungle?

Once you’ve gathered all six materials and repaired the boat, you can sail to the Jungle. You’ll land on a beach similar to your farm, where you can start collecting new materials like Jungle Wood and Jungle Stone. Other items available for harvesting include Jungle Berries and Giant Flowers, which can be used to obtain Jungle Flowers.

Additionally, as soon as you arrive, the new bait type for fishing, Dragonflies, becomes available, along with various seafood like Lobster, Caviar, and Octopus.

You’ll also encounter new enemies such as the Skeletal Sludge and Saw Plant. The Jungle offers new materials for the Treasure Hunter Profession, including Pirate’s Black-Gold Bars and Pirate Jewels.

Should you wish to explore further, you’ll find bridges that require repair for access to new areas—each requiring five Jungle Wood Planks, five Jungle Stone Blocks, and ten Silk Ropes.

How to Find the Jungle Caves

The first location to check out is the Forbidden Jungle Cave, where you can gather Volcanic Ore and acquire new gems for Jewelry crafting. The cave is located northwest of your landing spot, just past the Skeleton Sludge, marked by a shallow curve of sand leading to the entrance.

Inside the Forbidden Cave, you’ll find not only Volcanic Ore but also Charcoal nodes. This area provides new gems such as Sunset Fire Opal, Ruby, and Diamond, along with Platinum Rubble to craft Platinum Bars.

Expect encounters with Jungle Spiders, the fastest spider variant, which may resist your initial attacks, adding another layer of challenge to your adventures.

With these tips, you’re well-equipped to explore Luma Island’s Jungle and uncover the treasures that await!
