AWS Partners with Sheltered Harbor to Enhance Bank Cyber Resilience

Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud computing arm of Amazon, has made history by becoming the first significant cloud provider to join the Sheltered Harbor Alliance Program. This partnership signals a transformative approach for financial institutions toward safeguarding their data.

Announced on November 14, this collaboration connects AWS with Sheltered Harbor, a non-profit organization focused on improving cyber resilience within the financial services sector.

The goal of this partnership is to establish standardized methods for data vaulting. This process ensures that financial institutions keep encrypted, unchangeable copies of critical data stored separately from their primary systems.

    Increasing Regulatory Demands

This initiative arises as financial regulators across the globe amplify their efforts to enforce operational resilience.

The collaboration will offer financial organizations pre-approved architectural frameworks for creating data vaults using AWS infrastructure.

These frameworks are designed to assist organizations in complying with regulatory requirements while leveraging AWS capabilities.

By utilizing these frameworks, financial institutions can implement cloud-native data vaulting solutions in line with Sheltered Harbor’s standards.

In the event of a cyber-attack or any other disruptive incident, organizations can quickly restore their operations from the secure data vaults, significantly reducing downtime and potential financial losses.

    Technical Execution

Through this partnership, AWS customers within the financial sector will gain valuable guidance on how to deploy cloud-native data vaulting systems.

This architecture includes essential safeguards and controls tailored for an AWS environment, as outlined by Sheltered Harbor.

Siemens Financial Services Unveils New Carbon Reduction Tool

“The DBO tackles these obstacles head-on, empowering companies of all sizes and stages to generate sustainable value while speeding up their journey towards achieving net-zero emissions.”

What Led to the Development of the DBO?

The DBO is more than just another tool for calculating carbon footprints.

Developed on Amazon Web Services (AWS) with a serverless architecture, this tool is designed to maintain a minimal carbon footprint.

According to Amazon, the efficiency of the AWS infrastructure can be up to four times greater than traditional on-premises setups. By optimizing workloads, it’s possible to cut down the associated carbon emissions by as much as 99%.

This cutting-edge approach allows the DBO to function only when necessary, instead of operating continuously, thus exemplifying the efficiency it strives to promote.

The tool leverages verified datasets from respected sources, including the US Department of Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).

This reliance on high-quality, scientifically validated data ensures that the assessments and recommendations provided by the DBO are both reliable and credible.

Roderick Jackson, the Laboratory Program Manager for Building Technologies at NREL, notes, “Access to trusted datasets, combined with effective modeling and analysis tools, is crucial for making informed decisions in the quest for a clean energy future.”
