    Israeli Environmental Protection Minister Idit Silman has redefined crocodiles from wild animals to “captive-bred wildlife.” This change paves the way for the reptiles to be used for security purposes, such as preventing prison escapes.

    Far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, who reportedly proposed at the end of last year to surround a Palestinian detainee prison with crocodiles—similar to Florida’s “Alligator Alcatraz” immigration detention facility—applauded the new ruling.

    “Are you contemplating an escape? Think again,” Ben Gvir posted on Facebook Thursday, accompanied by an AI-generated image of himself holding a crocodile on a leash. The caption read: “Ministers Ben Gvir and Silman are working together and surrounding prisons with crocodiles!”

    According to Israel’s Channel 13, the Israel Nature and Parks Authority opposed Ben Gvir’s initial idea last year when he first suggested it.

    This reclassification shifts management of the crocodiles from the Nature and Parks Authority to a “security body.” The Israel Prison Service, which Ben Gvir oversees, is included among these bodies.

    The new law, signed on Wednesday, states that Nile crocodiles can be bred if they are held by a security agency, under conditions set by the Director of the Nature and Parks Authority to prevent wild escape, and if deemed necessary for security by the Minister of Environmental Protection.

    Israeli reports indicate that Ben Gvir plans to deploy crocodiles around Ketziot Prison in southern Israel, which houses many Hamas leaders captured after the group’s October 7, 2023 attack on Israel.

    When Ben Gvir first floated the idea last year, several officers at the Israel Prison Service reportedly dismissed it as ridiculous.

    How To Refill Your Lamp

    To refill your lamp in Windrose, you’ll need to use a Workbench. After interacting with a workbench, look at the top left corner of the menu and select the “Refill” tab. From there, you can restore your lamp using Animal Fat.

    Note: A full refill requires three Animal Fats. So, it’s wise to keep a good supply if you plan on long explorations.

    Your lamp doesn’t last forever. It generally runs out after roughly 10 to 20 minutes of use. Because of this, preparation is key. It’s a good idea to carry extra Animal Fat along with at least 20 Wood so you can set up a workbench anytime you need. This is especially important when exploring dark areas or caves, where losing your light can quickly become a big problem.

    How To Get Animal Fat

    Animal Fat mainly comes from hunting Boars. You can find these animals slightly inland from where you start. Boars aren’t very rare, but you’ll need to hunt them regularly to build a decent supply of Animal Fat.

    Note: Each boar usually drops one or two pieces of Animal Fat. You’ll need to hunt several boars consistently to keep your lamp fueled and ready. Making hunting boars a regular part of your exploration routine ensures you’re never left in the dark when you need light the most.

    Animals will be transported under regulated conditions both on the ground and in the air, adhering to international aviation standards. Dubai facilities will feature dedicated transit zones and support staff to monitor animals during layovers.

    Transportation will involve temperature-controlled vehicles, with pets placed in appropriate compartments on aircraft. Typically, animals are loaded last and unloaded first upon arrival.

    Certain dog and cat breeds may encounter travel restrictions and are accepted only under specific conditions. Pets are classified based on their country of origin: those from low-risk countries, including Pakistan and approximately 20 others, need to be at least 15 weeks old to travel, while pets from higher-risk nations—such as Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Comoros, and Nigeria—must be at least 27 weeks old.

    How to Start A Major Discovery

    When this quest becomes available, after finishing the previous story quests for the Winter Frost Season, you’ll get a call from Naughty about the weather. He’s made a discovery concerning the crystal petals falling on the mountain—those snowflakes.

    He won’t tell you much about where to look—only that you need to look where the snowflakes, or crystal petals, fear most. Since snowflakes are afraid of heat, you’ll have to figure out where to search.

    Where to Find the Onsen Treasure

    Head up to Onsen Mountain and go toward the bus stop. Next to the hot spring behind the bus stop, you’ll find a glowing orb near the inflatable pineapple float. Interact with it to discover what Naughty was talking about.

    This begins a series of small quests, each focused on a single object, which will help you progress through the story.

    Where to Take the Strange Bird Feather

    Once you’ve obtained the wet bird feather Naughty mentioned, go to the town square. Take the staircase up to Bailey J.’s study above the pet shop.

    Speak with Bailey J. to discuss the source of the feather. She might panic briefly, but she will calm down. Afterward, you’ll receive a call from Naughty, kicking off the next part of the quest.

    Where to Find Annie During Frost Season

    While the event is active, go to the shoreline of Onsen Mountain near the Old Sea. Find Annie on the hill near Massimo’s pop-up stall. Talk to her about the Penguins?! quest to move the story forward.

    She will tell you that Harry has made another discovery. Now, you need to find him—here’s where he is.

    Where to Find Harry During Frost Season

    Harry is usually at the beach near the Duck Jump Puzzle, but during this season, he stands at the bottom of the slide into the ice rink.

    Talking to him about the Another “Major Discovery” quest will trigger a surprise cutscene confirming what you probably suspected. Then, return to Annie, who has moved to the coffee stand on the ice rink, to discuss the real penguins!

    Where to Find the Penguins on Onsen Mountain

    Make your way to the shoreline of Onsen Mountain for the event. From there, head northeast along the slope and under the docks to spot the penguins gathering. You can also find the Penguin Trough in this area.

    On the beach, a new cutscene will unfold involving the device the penguins accidentally stole from the island. After this scene, the week’s quests are complete, but the story isn’t over yet! Atara mentions that you should ask Bob to create a new mechanical skeleton for the fake penguin doll to continue the adventure.

    A wild male elephant fatally gored a tourist in central Thailand’s Khao Yai National Park on Monday, marking the third death linked to the same animal. The 65-year-old tourist from Lopburi Province was out for his morning walk with his wife when he was trampled by an elephant named Oyewan, according to park director Chaiya Huayhongthong. His wife was able to run to safety as rangers startled the elephant away.

    “This was the third person Oyewan has killed,” Chaiya explained, noting that the elephant may have been responsible for several other unexplained fatalities. Officials are scheduled to meet on Friday to determine whether to relocate Oyewan or implement behavioral modifications.

    Since 2012, over 220 individuals, including tourists, have lost their lives to wild elephants. The population of wild elephants in Thailand increased from 334 in 2015 to nearly 800 last year, prompting authorities to administer contraceptive vaccines to females to curb rapid growth.

    Last January, an elephant killed a Spanish tourist while she was bathing with the animal at a sanctuary in southern Thailand. In December 2024, another tourist was killed by an elephant at a park in Loei Province.

    To visit a Slumber Island, lie down on any bed and select the “It’s slumber time” option. This transports you to Luna in a dream, where she will ask if you want to create a Slumber Island. You can pick between a small, medium, or large island, then choose one of four available map layouts. Each size has its own terrain rules, like river mouths and cliff setups. You can create up to three personal Slumber Islands per player.

    ### What Can You Do On Slumber Island?
    Once your island is generated, it differs from a normal island in several ways. It doesn’t come with shops, public buildings, an airport, or villagers by default. Instead, there’s a single house for the island owner and a large pier at the entrance.

    When you arrive, you start on the pier, where Luna manages your island options and multiplayer access. Lloid the gyroid is here, too, along with a mirror and wardrobe for changing your appearance. An archway leads into the island itself.

    Customization is the main focus on a Slumber Island. By pressing the top-right ‘+’ button on your controller, you can freely terraform using the terrain tool. This lets you create or remove cliffs, dig rivers, and build waterfalls.

    You can also place flowers, trees, and furniture from your storage anywhere on the island. Initially, the island doesn’t have weeds, rocks, or residents. Bridges and inclines are managed through Lloid at the pier, who provides a tool to place them without the usual construction limits.

    How to Unlock Animal Care

    As you advance the main story and increase your Developer’s Guild level, you’ll unlock the Animal Care section in your Town Guide. Through it, you’ll talk with Annie to learn about different animals on the island. Each animal is unique, staying in specific areas, and they each have their preferred foods.

    Earlier in the quest, Annie will ask you to find the Sika Deer’s feeding trough in the forest. Fill it with food from your inventory, then wait for the animals to eat. Doing this will raise your bond level with that animal group. You can refill the trough whenever needed over time.

    Tip: While you can track trough locations using the Animals app on your watch, it’s a good idea to put markers on your map to remember where each one is.

    As your bond with each animal group grows, your chances of animals visiting, successful interactions, and animals leaving gifts at troughs will all improve.

    Each animal group also has its own interactions—like petting, feeding, or playing hide-and-seek. You’ll unlock furniture themed for the animals as tokens of your friendship, so be sure to play with all the animals you encounter!

    A UN wildlife trade organization decided on Sunday not to restrict India from importing endangered animals, after several countries supported reversing an earlier strict recommendation that had caused controversy surrounding the private zoo operated by one of Asia’s wealthiest families.

    Vantara, a 3,500-acre zoo in Gujarat managed by the philanthropic division of the Reliance conglomerate led by Mukesh Ambani and his family, had faced allegations from nonprofit and wildlife groups regarding improper animal imports. This prompted increased scrutiny from Germany and the European Union.

    Following a visit to the facility in September, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) issued a report this month urging India not to issue any further import permits due to discrepancies between export and import data and inadequate checks on some animals’ origins.

    During a Sunday live-streamed meeting in Uzbekistan, the recommendation was overturned after many countries—including India, the United States, Japan, and Brazil—argued that the measure was too early, with some stating there was no solid evidence of illegal imports into India.

    “There doesn’t appear to be enough backing to maintain the recommendation,” said Naimah Aziz, chair of the CITES Standing Committee, adding that the organization might consider additional regulatory actions if needed.

    CITES is an international treaty that oversees trade in endangered plants and animals.

    India had previously opposed the UN’s recommendation.

    Vantara, which previously stated its commitment to transparency and legal compliance, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

    Vantara’s animal collection includes approximately 2,000 species, featuring exotic creatures imported from South Africa, Venezuela, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, such as snakes, tortoises, tigers, giraffes, and spiny-tailed lizards.

    While India’s representative affirmed the country’s dedication to adhering to CITES regulations, Belgium and the Pan African Sanctuary Alliance—among others—on Sunday called for a suspension of animal exports to India until concerns are addressed.

    In September, an investigation appointed by India’s Supreme Court cleared Vantara of any wrongdoing, with the facility asserting that it complies with all applicable laws.

    European Environment Commissioner Jessika Roswall noted in August that EU nations would closely monitor any export requests involving India and the facility in question.

    Despite this, after visiting the facility in September, the Secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) released a report last week urging India to review its procedures. The report highlighted inconsistencies between export and import trade data and warned about insufficient checks on the origins of some animals.

    In response to the report, India argued that imposing restrictions at this point would lack a legal basis and could disrupt the existing CITES framework, labeling the suggested measures as “premature and disproportionate.” The government stated that such actions could effectively suspend or halt lawful imports.

    This official India submission—made before the upcoming CITES meeting this month—has been primarily reported by Reuters and signifies a developing dispute over Vantara’s animal imports.

    CITES is an international treaty that governs the trade of endangered plants and animals, aiming to ensure their conservation. The organization acknowledged last week that Vantara maintains facilities of “exceptionally high standards,” but recommended ceasing new import permits for endangered species until additional safeguards are implemented. It cautioned that without stricter enforcement, wild-caught animals might be misrepresented as captive-bred.

    India responded by asserting that it has enhanced inspection and reporting mechanisms for all recognized zoos and rescue centers, including Vantara, and instructed the Central Zoo Authority to undertake more thorough vetting of future acquisitions.

    Neither CITES nor Vantara responded to Reuters’ inquiries regarding the Indian government’s submissions.

    Vantara claims it is home to around 2,000 species, including imported exotic animals from South Africa, Venezuela, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, such as snakes, tortoises, tigers, cheetahs, giraffes, and chimpanzees. The shipments were declared to be valued at $9 million, reflecting transportation and insurance costs rather than payments for wildlife.

    The recent CITES report noted that many animals originate from established commercial breeding facilities, which typically sell animals bred on-site. India defended its imports, asserting that they were carried out in compliance with existing regulations.

    A severely burned tortoise, rescued from a Greek wildfire, squiggles in an Athens animal clinic despite receiving numerous painkillers—it’s one of the latest casualties of climate change wreaking havoc on the nation’s wildlife. Most of the scorched scales on its shell had to be removed with forceps. “It was very depressed and gasping for breath because of the smoke,” explained veterinarian Grigorios Markakis. Although “it’s considerably better now,” the prognosis remains grim, he added to AFP. “If the entire shell is burned, just imagine what happened inside… All the internal organs would be dysfunctional.”

    At just 28 years old, Markakis dedicates his time to caring for orphaned, injured, or ill animals—ranging from hedgehogs and snakes to storks—at a first-aid station run by Greece’s wildlife protection organization, Anima. The NGO has seen a dramatic increase in animal admissions, primarily driven by climate change, which scientists link to longer, more intense heatwaves worldwide that ignite wildfires and pose additional risks to wildlife across the globe.

    This past summer, Greece experienced several massive forest fires amid soaring temperatures, particularly around Athens and in the western Peloponnese. Authorities estimate that approximately 45,000 hectares, or about 111,200 acres, were consumed by flames this year. Nikos Georgiadis of the World Wildlife Fund Greece notes, “These fires are now more difficult to control and often wipe out large areas of vital habitat, directly killing animals and displacing countless others.” He adds, “Prolonged droughts, higher temperatures, and forest dieback all degrade ecosystems, diminish food and water sources, and make survival tougher for many species.”

    Staff at Anima have reported a growing number of animals brought in due to the relentless heat. Anna Manta, a team member, said, “More animals are being brought here than ever before.” She explained, “Most animals become exhausted or are forced to leave their nests prematurely,” and many young birds are jumping from their nests, “essentially roasted alive.” During a searing heatwave in July, with temperatures exceeding 104°F (40°C), Anima admitted 1,586 animals. In June alone, 2,125 animals were rescued—almost 300 more than during the same period last year. “We thought last year was our worst yet,” Manta said, “until June.”

    Many of these animals are juvenile vultures, emaciated and exhausted from the heat. Manta explained, “In Crete, they struggle to find water, often swimming to the sea to drink, which poisons them because they can’t process the salt.” The team administers medicine and fluids over several days, then places the birds in outdoor cages to socialize before releasing them back into the wild after roughly six months. One juvenile griffon vulture had just been given IV fluids when it was carried outside—its caregiver grimaced as lice crawled off the weakened bird. Markakis emphasized that climate change also influences microorganisms and parasites, potentially increasing disease transmission since these organisms can survive longer in warming conditions.

    In a corner of the clinic, a long-eared owl perched on a computer monitor watched as Maria Ganoti, Anima’s president, typed. When she began, the owl turned to look directly at her keyboard with its striking orange eyes. Later, the bird also observed as people brought in a shoebox containing a quail attacked by cats and a fox hit by a car—growing concerns as incidents involving wildlife and urban areas increase. Georgiadis pointed out that habitat destruction and urban sprawl into forests are pushing animals like foxes into cities, leading to more encounters.

    Markakis recalled one of his most cherished moments: treating and releasing a cub with severe head trauma back into its natural environment. “I gave it one last look, opened the cage door, and watched it disappear instantly—without so much as a thank you,” he said, smiling. “That feeling is pure magic.”

    Have you ever thought that pests, the potato-shaped creatures in Abiotic Factor, look kinda cute? Maybe you like how they leap through the air when attacking you or just scurry around when they’re doing their own thing.

    If you want a pet or just something to come home to after a long day of fighting and collecting stuff, you’re in luck. You can tame pests, but you’ll need a few specific items: a trap to hold them safely and one of their favorite foods. If everything works out, you’ll have a little buddy to name and care for—or even send into battle against your enemies.

    How to Craft a Pest Trap

    To get a pest as a pet, first, you need to craft a pest trap. It takes three resources: a stapler, two rolls of duct tape, and nachos. The stapler and duct tape are easy to find, usually inside or on desks in the Office Sector, like at the Data Farm.

    Getting nachos is trickier and requires advancing the story a bit. The earliest place you can find them is in the world of Flathill.

    Steps to get nachos:

    • Take the lift to Level Three, go through the portal to Anteverse II, then through another portal to reach Level Three’s main area.
    • Head over to Silo Three and talk to Dr. Mayfield next to it to learn the recipes for the Keypad Hacker and its parts.
    • Destroy security bots to gather their CPU parts, then craft the Keypad Hacker with an Infrared Emitter, LCD Screen, and Controller.
    • Use the hacker to open Silo Three, then access the portal to Flathill. From there, go downstairs in the control room and pass through the portal.
    • In Flathill, carefully explore the area and avoid the unkillable composers while searching for Power Cells.
    • Walk down the main street, through buildings, and through portals until you reach the Flathill Arcade, where you can pick up four nachos off the tables.

    Note: Save three nachos for when you try to catch a pest or get some Anteverse Wheat from Anteverse II, which is needed for taming.

    Once you’ve done enough exploring or taken the shortcut back to the GATE portal, bring the nachos home. You can then craft a pest trap at any powered crafting station.

    How to Capture and tame a pest

    Now, find a pest. Three of the four types—regular, Electro, and Volatile—can be trapped. The Office Sector is full of them, but the best spots for taming without interference are Bio Lab D and the kitchen next to the cafeteria, since fewer enemies like Peccaries spawn there.

    Sneak up close to a pest without startling it. Place the trap in its path, being careful not to provoke it because a hostile pest can’t be lured into the trap. As long as it doesn’t see you, the pest will wander inside and get caught.

    Tip: Pests that roam in small areas are easier to tame because you can wait for them to pass, then place the trap in their path and hide. This minimizes the chance of them noticing and getting aggressive.

    Once the pest is inside the trap, the door will automatically close. Hold either nachos or Anteverse Wheat in your hotbar. You’ll see a prompt to feed them. Feed them three of either item to tame the pest. When tamed, blue hearts will float up from the trap, showing you’ve made a new friend.

    Take the pest out of the trap, and you can command it to follow you, stay and patrol, pet it, or send it back to its Pest Cage for safekeeping.

    What Tamed Pests Can Do

    Besides being cute companions, tamed pests are helpful allies. They will attack anything that attacks you. They can also generate electricity using the Pest Wheel once you unlock that recipe.

    Note: You only need one Power Cell to repair the forklift and open the way to Manufacturing West, as you will have two left over from your first trip to Flathill. While the pest runs, the wheel produces enough electricity to power objects, which is especially useful during power outages at night when you still want to craft or cook.

    From the Promotions Desk, select an animal type and increase its budget to a total of 100% to attract them.

    Hospitality Master

    Gather all 24 default guests.

    While there are more than 24 guests, you can check their rarity by hovering over their codex entries. This achievement involves unlocking codex entries for the 24 standard guests. Hover over them to see the requirements for unlocking. These entries carry over between saves.

    Global Brand

    Unlock all 8 classic stages.

    To unlock the next stage, you need 24 medals. After that, you can start a new game with the next stage using the key obtained from Key to Success. Keep unlocking stages by collecting 24 medals and getting new keys until all 8 stages are completed.

    Millionaire

    Reach the highest gold carrying limit.

    Although called Millionaire, the maximum gold you can hold is 999,999,999. A simple tactic is to let your spa run and accumulate wealth.

    Letters from the Heart

    Collect all 59 classic letters.

    You can read new letters from the Notice Board, and more will appear as you progress. Check your collected letters through the mailbox menu, which has icons for each letter you’ve received. These letters carry over between saves.

    Key to Success

    Obtain the first key.

    This achievement is granted when you collect at least 24 medals. This key will then be used to unlock new stages.

    When you unlock items such as showers or sinks, opt for a different-colored tile to create a ‘bathroom’ look. We also used darker flooring to designate a staff area for items like the Staff Training Room, Staff Hat Management Locker, and the Operation Desk.

    Install Towel Racks Frequently

    Your guests will regularly get wet, which can lead to puddles that others might slip on. Although you can unlock a codex entry for the beaver by observing these slips happen 1,000 times, it’s best to keep your guests safe and avoid excessive slipping.

    To minimize this, we recommend placing towel racks near your bathing areas. Also, add a Towel Collection Bin nearby to allow guests to return used towels. You can even customize towel colors, which guests can wear on their heads.

    Distribute Your Amenities

    While it’s tempting to cluster all your food and drink stalls in one area, it’s wise to **spread out your amenities**. Instead of filling a floor solely with food, mix in some bathing areas and other facilities.

    This strategy encourages guests to explore and ensures they can find everything they need nearby. Plus, it gives your spa a bustling atmosphere!

    You can adjust your entrance fee at the Operation Desk. Setting a higher fee reduces the number of guests, while a lower fee attracts more. Use this to control your guest count.

    Once you hire a worker, they can operate on any floor of the spa. Instead of letting them roam freely, assign them to specific floors and set their priorities. For example, if you have four staff members across two floors, assign two to each level.

    You could designate one employee to manage cleaning up puddles while another focuses on restocking supplies. This organized structure helps keep your spa clean and well-stocked for guests.

    If a staff member works at the Bath Supplies Shop, they cannot perform any other tasks unless you’re reassigned.
