Completing Stealing Samurai in AC Shadows: A Guide to Solving It

When you think of Samurai, the concept of honor often stands out. However, not every Samurai in Assassin’s Creed Shadows embodies that trait—some, like Yasuke, stand apart from the rest. In the “Stealing Samurai” side quest, you’ll encounter a number of these dishonorable figures.

This quest involves assisting a local who has suffered at the hands of the Samurai in her area. As a result of your efforts, you can expect to earn a good deal of money and resources. Defeating these Samurai can be tough, as you’ll need to take down quite a few to complete the quest. Here’s how to find and finish the “Stealing Samurai” quest in AC Shadows.

    How to Start “Stealing Samurai”

You can kick off the quest with either character. Head northeast of the Hideout into the Yamato region. You’ll find the quest south of Koriyama and north of Katsuragi. It’s hard to miss; the Weary Farmer who gives you the quest will try to flag you down as you pass her home.

Talk to the Weary Farmer, and she’ll explain how Samurai have been causing trouble for her and the local community. When you offer your help, the quest begins. In total, you’ll need to defeat 100 Samurai to complete it, which is tracked in the People of Yamato objective board and divided into three parts:

    • The first part requires you to defeat 25 Samurai, earning you 500 EXP and 750 Mon.
    • The second part involves taking out another 25 Samurai, bringing the total to 50, which rewards you with 500 more EXP, 375 hemp cloth, and leather.
    • Lastly, for eliminating all 100 Samurai, you’ll receive another 750 EXP, along with 300 Tamahagane and Ironsand.

    Yamato Samurai Locations

Fortunately, you don’t need to specifically kill 100 Samurai Daisho for this quest; any enemies found around castles and temples will count.

Samurai can be found in castles and temples, so taking out guards in these areas will also help you toward your goal. You might also encounter Samurai while traveling on the peaceful countryside roads of Yamato.

Some specific locations where you can find Samurai guards include:

    • Uda Matsuyama (1)
    • Kofukuji Temple (2)
    • Koriyama Castle (3)
    • Uda Lumber Storage (4)
    • Takatori Castle Ruins (5)

Keep in mind that only Samurai defeated in the Yamato region will count toward the quest, so stick to this area while completing it.

The best way to find Samurai is to explore the map and complete the viewpoints, revealing areas with enemies. Look for red diamonds on the map; most of them will be Samurai. After visiting the known areas, retrace your steps to find more foes.

For combat, both Naoe and Yasuke have their advantages, so choose according to your preferred style:

    • If you’re at a high enough level and prefer stealth, use Naoe.
    • If you’re at a lower level and need to engage directly, Yasuke is your best choice due to his superior base stats and weapons.

    How to Complete “Stealing Samurai”

After finishing the third objective of the Stealing Samurai quest, head back to the Weary Farmer. Speak with her to inform her that the Samurai trouble has been resolved. In gratitude, she will reward you with gold and 2,000 Mon.

Completing Fast Travel in AC Shadows: A Solving Guide

Assassin’s Creed: Shadows kicks off with you stepping into the shoes of Yasuke during a brief prologue. However, the main character you’ll take control of early on is Naoe. After she eliminates the Onryo Samurai, Ido Yoshihiro, Naoe finds herself facing some tough challenges ahead.

At this point, the quest titled Unplayable Debt begins. This quest explores Naoe’s backstory and helps move the narrative along. It’s also during this segment that you can unlock the fast travel feature, which will make navigating the expansive game world much easier. We’re here to ensure you complete all objectives smoothly.

Starting the Wake Up Call Quest

Within the Unpayable Debt quest, you’ll trigger another mission called Wake Up Call. Simply step outside, and a cutscene will unfold. This mission is straightforward; you’ll need to defeat Nagato in a friendly sparring match and deal with some troublemakers.

Upon finishing this mission, Naoe returns to the present and meets Junjiro, who invites her to paint with him. Follow Junjiro and work on creating a painting of a Tanuki. Approach Mikan from the left while crouching, and halt as soon as the circle begins to move. Once you complete that task, Naoe will start painting.

Afterward, Junjiro invites Naoe again, leading to another cutscene.

    Unlocking Fast Travel

Considering the game’s vast landscape, you will find it necessary to utilize the fast travel feature. Look for an eagle-shaped icon on your map; that indicates where you can fast travel, but you’ll need to unlock these points first.

There is a fast travel point near Makinoodera Temple, which is close by. Head over to the viewpoint location and stand there to activate it. Once you’ve unlocked one, more viewpoints will become visible on your map. To fast travel, simply select the icon whenever you need to move quickly.

Keep in mind that you can’t fast travel when you’re engaged in active combat.

Once you’re finished, complete the An Unpayable quest by cutting down bamboo. This location will appear on your map; head over there and start cutting until the meter on your left turns blue. Once that’s done, another cutscene will commence.

  • Discover All Kofun Locations in AC Shadows

Discover All Kofun Locations in AC Shadows

At the start of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Naoe’s father instructs her to locate a specific Kofun to retrieve a key item. While the Kofun you initially access is straightforward—you can find the item almost immediately—other Kofuns scattered throughout the game present a greater challenge.

The map is dotted with various Kofuns that not only grant valuable EXP and Knowledge Points but also allow you to collect legendary equipment for your characters. However, navigating these sites can be tough.

    Finding All Kofuns

Throughout the expansive world of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you’ll discover ten Kofuns in the following locations:

    # Province Name Location
1 Izumi Settsu Old Kofun Travel east from Sakai City in Izumi Settsu, where a small mountain can be seen above the water near Izumi Coast. You’ll encounter this Kofun during Naoe’s journey.
2 Izumi Settsu Makino Kurumazuka This location is at the northeastern edge of Settsu, north of Yawata Plains. Note that entry is restricted to Yasuke.
3 Harima Takagi Kofun Enter the Harima region from the southeast and head northeast from Kakogawa Estuary. This Kofun is located in the hostile zone of Takagi Otsuka Fort.
4 Yamashiro Ancient Tomb of Nanjo Find this Kofun in the southwest of Yamashiro, right beneath the Eagle’s Nest Kakurega and northwest of the Shoryuji Tenshu viewpoint.
5 Tamba Chasuriyama Kofun To locate this Kofun, head to the northwestern area of Tamba, where “Chasuriyama” appears on the map, specifically northwest of that location.
6 Omi Azuchi Hyotanyama Kofun In the Azuchi area of Omi, once you’ve unlocked the Azuchi Kakurega, head directly east from there toward the edge of the region to find this Kofun.
7 Wakasa Veiled Tumulus At the right side of the Wakasa marker on the map (1x zoom), where three rivers converge, this Kofun can be found on the northeastern shore of that intersection.
8 Yamato Megalithic Vault This Kofun is located in the northwest corner of Yamato, northeast of the Koriyama Forest viewpoint.
9 Yamato Ishibutai Kofun In the southwestern part of Yamato, you’ll see the Asura Rocks Basin at 2x zoom. This Kofun is southeast of that location.
10 Kii Shimosato Kofun The last Kofun is situated in the southeastern area of Kii, just below the Kumano Kakurega.

    What Are Kofuns?

When you reach a Kofun’s location, you’ll find an underground entrance at the exact map marker. Inside, visibility is often low, adding to the challenge of exploring these sites.

You’ll have to navigate through narrow paths and hidden crevices, often solving a variety of puzzles to reach the ultimate legendary chest within the Kofun. Every chest you discover awards legendary gear, Knowledge Points, and 1,000 XP.

Some Kofuns can be accessed and completed only by specific characters, requiring you to switch between Naoe and Yasuke.
