Is 2XKO Dying? Riot Games Lays Off Half of Team

Digital Phablet – Recent reports suggest that 2XKO, Riot Games’ free-to-play fighting game, may be facing a potential decline following the company’s decision to lay off half of its staff due to underwhelming results.

Tom Cannon, the Executive Producer of 2XKO, issued a statement saying, “I want to take a moment to provide an important update on 2XKO. This is a tough message to deliver, but transparency is important as we discuss what’s changing and why.”

He continued, “After thorough discussions and reflection, we are downsizing the 2XKO team,” adding that “While the game has cultivated a dedicated core audience, the overall momentum hasn’t reached the level required to sustain a team of this size long-term.”

Is 2XKO on the decline? Riot Games has announced layoffs within the team.

A tweet from Geoff Keighley on February 9, 2026, states, “Riot has announced layoffs on the 2XKO team. Overall momentum hasn’t reached the level needed to support a team of this size long-term.”

Despite these setbacks, it appears the game isn’t finished yet. Cannon hinted that support for 2XKO will persist with a “smaller, more focused team,” and promised an upcoming update on future plans. He shared, “We’re restructuring the team to give 2XKO a more sustainable path forward.”

A former gameplay animator involved with the project, Thomas Huynh, expressed his feelings on X (formerly Twitter): “I was laid off from Riot today. 2XKO was everything I dreamed of—my ideal studio, my dream project, animating fighting game characters alongside some of the best in the industry. I put my heart into every animation, every frame. Seeing those characters come to life was truly magical.”

Content creator Scarra commented, “Hearing news about 2XKO is really upsetting. I loved Riot’s venture into fighting games, and hearing about layoffs just two weeks after the launch doesn’t look good.”

  • How to Complete Champion Mastery Rewards in 2XKO

How to Complete Champion Mastery Rewards in 2XKO

Riot Games’ 2XKO has limited options for offline play, offering only multiplayer battles against friends on the same console or against the computer. However, the game features a detailed duo system and provides a variety of cosmetic items for each character.

Once you’ve learned the basics of the game, you might want to show how much time you’ve invested in your favorite champions. To do this, the game has a system called Champion Mastery, which allows you to unlock special items based on your experience with a champion. Here’s what you need to know about Champion Mastery and how to improve your levels.

    Champion Mastery Explained

Champion Mastery is a leveling system that rewards you with exclusive cosmetics like stickers, titles, and avatar items for your favorite characters. You progress by earning Mastery Levels, which unlock different reward tiers.

Each champion has six reward tiers. To unlock each, you need a specific amount of Mastery Levels. For example, unlocking Tier 1 costs 5 levels, Tier 2 requires 15 levels, and the highest, Tier 6, needs 100 levels.

How to Earn Champion Mastery Levels

To increase your Mastery Level with a champion, you need to complete challenges specific to that character. These challenges can be viewed in the Champions menu under the Champion Mastery section for each champion.

Challenges come in three types: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Initially, only Bronze challenges are available, and completing them unlocks the Silver challenges. Both Bronze and Silver challenges can only be completed once. Gold challenges are repeatable, meaning you can complete them multiple times.

Most challenges involve winning matches or performing specific actions during a game. Keep in mind that only matchmade games, whether casual or ranked, count toward your progress. Offline matches against the computer or friends do not contribute to Mastery progress.

Your Champion Mastery carries over across game seasons, but all completed challenges are reset when a new season begins.

  • All Characters in 2XKO: Ranked, Completing, and Solving

All Characters in 2XKO: Ranked, Completing, and Solving

In tag team fighting games, 2XKO excels at making characters enjoyable to play. As new updates are released, certain characters may rise or fall in the rankings, but some remain consistently strong and influential in shaping the game’s meta.

Whether it’s their flexible movesets, straightforward or complex combos, or just the way they allow players to express themselves uniquely, the top characters here are well chosen. Be careful, though—an unexpected mix-up or a quick one-hit knockout could be lurking around the corner.

    Tier List Explanation

Although the roster is relatively small, it features a diverse and capable group of fighters. When ranking these characters, several factors are taken into account: how difficult they are to master, how versatile their playstyle is, and how well they perform against other Champions.

A key aspect in team-based combat is how effectively characters can support and work with each other. The best fighters can chain combos smoothly with teammates, offer a wide range of tactics, and maintain power and adaptability across different situations.

    S-Tier Ranking

These characters represent the cream of the crop. They work well with many teammates, possess strong innate abilities, and can deliver huge value when used skillfully. Some have more intricate moves, but they can be deadly in the hands of an adept player, especially when paired with other champions.

Caitlyn is a prime example of a top-tier character. Her ability to stun opponents while keeping them standing opens up dangerous combo opportunities that can deal massive damage. She excels at long-range engagement, making her a major threat across the map.

Ekko can put relentless pressure on opponents and create clever mix-ups. While easy to pick up, those who master his combos can be extremely lethal.

Ahri features some of the best movement options, including air dashes and quick movements. Her magic allows her to switch between aggressive and defensive roles, making her adaptable in nearly every match-up. Her combos inflict significant damage.

Yasuo is versatile and capable of handling almost any opposition, making him a high-skill character. Skilled players can make him appear nearly untouchable with options to counter various attack styles.

Teemo is not just adorable—he’s one of the finest zoners. His ability to buff abilities and go invisible makes him excellent at disrupting opponents’ setups and controlling space.

    A-Tier Ranking

These characters are highly effective within their specific fighting styles. They excel at what they do and are strong choices, but they might lack the versatility to fit seamlessly into all team compositions. Still, they dominate their niches and remain formidable in competitive play.

Vi is a straightforward master of mid-range combat. She’s easy to learn, controls space well, and applies damage over time with bleed effects, though she doesn’t quite reach the top-tier level due to some limitations.

Illaoi feels like the ultimate bruiser, capable of applying constant pressure with her tentacles and locking down opponents. She has a unique toolkit that can control the fight, but some match-ups are tougher for bruisers, placing her slightly lower.

Darius is an effective mid-range fighter and one of the easier champions to learn. He controls space and applies bleed, but overall, he’s just short of being truly elite.

Braum offers a versatile, defensive, and offensive play style with the capacity to deal substantial damage. Some characters can circumvent his strengths, which is why he’s placed here rather than higher.

Jinx is a great damage dealer with strong zoning tools. Her traps are useful, but not as effective as Caitlyn’s, requiring more effort to maximize her potential.

    B-Tier Ranking

Characters in this tier are very competent at their specialties but come with some drawbacks. They might lack the tools or versatility to rise higher in competitive rankings but remain solid options for many players.

V creates significant pressure by charging her gauntlets and gaining opportunities for movement and extended combos. Still, she doesn’t quite match the top-tier competition.

Warwick is a big, fast, and reliable character. With many options to punish opponents, he’s easy to handle but limited in range and mobility, which restricts his effectiveness against some champions.

    C-Tier Ranking

While these fighters aren’t the strongest overall, none are bad. Each has a particular style or trait that makes them viable, but they typically come with some weaknesses—such as being harder to use effectively, more challenging to learn, or more exploitable by savvy opponents.

Blitzcrank is a grappler with strong hooks, but his limited range and sluggish movement make it harder to rank him higher. He’s effective mainly against a small subset of characters.

Braum offers defensive strength and damage but can be outplayed against specific match-ups.

Jinx provides good zoning and assist capabilities but requires effort to maximize her damage potential due to her traps being less reliable than others.

Each champion in this game has unique strengths and weaknesses, but all can thrive in the right hands. Success depends heavily on mastering their mechanics, understanding team synergies, and adapting to different opponents.

As you level up, most items are locked behind a purple symbol, indicating that you need to upgrade to the next tier of the battle pass (standard or higher) to access them.

You can also buy individual levels using KO Points, with each level costing more as you go higher, since unlocking subsequent levels grants all previous rewards.

Battle Pass Tiers and Purchase Options

Players can purchase the battle pass at three different levels, each providing different benefits. The available options are:
