Currently, there isn’t a way to rename a workgroup in Amazon Redshift Serverless. Once a workgroup is created, its name is fixed and can’t be changed.
However, you can still update many aspects of an existing workgroup without needing to delete it. Using the update-workgroup command, you can change settings like network configurations, security groups, and other properties. This allows you to adjust your workgroup while keeping the same name and preserving all existing permissions and settings.
If changing the workgroup name is absolutely necessary, your only option is to delete the current workgroup and create a new one with the desired name. Keep in mind that doing this means you’ll need to reconfigure permissions and perform testing again, which can take some extra effort.
Before making any changes, think about whether you really need to change the workgroup name. Usually, updating the configuration settings is enough to meet your needs. If a name change is essential, prepare for the work involved in deleting and recreating the workgroup. It’s also a good idea to document your current setup thoroughly before deleting the old workgroup. This will help you quickly set up the new one with the same configuration.
