Google Ads: New Customer Acquisition Report

Digital Phablet reports that Google Ads is launching a new feature called “Report on new customers acquired.” This tool allows advertisers to track purchases from both new and existing customers without needing to alter their bidding strategies, according to Google.

The feature was first noticed by Vasant Chaudhary, and Thomas Eccel mentioned it in a post, giving credit to Chaudhary. Eccel explained that previously, the workaround to differentiate new versus existing customers involved selecting the option to “Bid higher for new customers” and setting the bid adjustment to 0.01. This method technically adjusted bidding but didn’t truly impact the campaign’s performance; it was mainly used by those not utilizing ProfitMetrics, which offers native segmentation of conversions by customer type and lifetime value.

A screenshot shared by Eccel demonstrates this new reporting capability, showing columns labeled “New customers” and “New customer value.” He highlighted that Google has now added a dedicated reporting setting for this purpose, which purely provides measurement insights without affecting bidding algorithms. This update will replace the earlier “workaround” method of manipulating bid adjustments to gauge new customer acquisition.

Further details on the discussion can be found on professional platforms where marketers and analysts are exploring the implications of this new feature.
