AWS Bedrock: Fix ThrottlingException and Token Quota Zero Issue

How to Fix AWS Quick Data Preview Issue for Iceberg Tables in Athena

If you’re starting with a new AWS account and notice that your token quotas are showing as zero, don’t worry—this is a normal part of the setup process. New accounts have security limits in place to keep everything safe, and this can include a fixed quota that can’t be changed right away. Here’s what you need to do to resolve this and get your Amazon Bedrock access working smoothly.

First, you’ll want to verify your account with AWS Support. To do this, go to the AWS Support Center and create a case under the “Account and billing” category. When requesting verification, explain that you need the initial service limits lifted so you can use Amazon Bedrock. Once your account is verified by AWS Support, the normal quotas will start to apply.

Next, after your account is verified, head over to the Amazon Bedrock console. Find the section labeled “Model access” and submit a request for the foundation models you plan to use, such as the Anthropic Claude models. This step is necessary before you can actually access the models in Bedrock.

After you’ve submitted your model access request, it usually takes just a few minutes for AWS to process it. Once approved, your quotas will be automatically updated to the default levels, and you’ll be able to use Bedrock without issues.

Remember, seeing a zero token quota on a new account is expected until the verification process is completed. If later on, you find you need higher quotas for your project, you can always request a quota increase through the AWS Support Center. Following these steps will help you get past initial limits and start using Amazon Bedrock effectively.
