Strategies to Conquer Paula in Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered

All your efforts in Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered have led to this moment: Paula has transformed into a malevolent demon, ready to claim your soul. As Garcia’s wife, she serves as the ultimate boss, and defeating her is essential to complete the game.

However, Paula isn’t the vulnerable character you’ve known. Now equipped with wings, she’s capable of launching attacks with flying kisses, summoning regular enemies, and employing various other demonic tricks. This guide will help you strategize against Paula effectively.

How to Beat Paula – First Phase

Garcia running while Paula hovers in the air, ready to attack.

Paula will be adorned in a white dress with matching wings, but look closely—some of her six wings will be red, marking her weak spot. Use the Dentist weapon to target this area, as it has a locking feature that ensures your shots hit the mark.

Keep an eye on your crosshair; it should turn red when you have locked onto a target.

When you shoot her wings, Paula will summon regular enemies cloaked in Darkness. Use your Light Shot to clear them out. Additionally, she will send hearts your way; you can dodge them by rolling in different directions.

Paula may also unleash a wide-reaching whirlwind attack. You’ll see her wrap herself in her wings for a few seconds before launching this projectile. To avoid it, run in the opposite direction when she starts her attack.

Another one of her moves involves blood rivers surging from below. Don’t just run; by the time you spot the first oncoming wave, it might be too late. Instead, roll to either side to utilize your invulnerability frames.

Once you’ve damaged her enough, grab the eye located at the center of the arena and look for the door with the baby face. You’ll find multiple doors here, but all will be looking for a strawberry instead of the eye. Locate the right door, open it, and Garcia along with Paula will progress to the final phase.

Keep an eye out for the dialogue bubble appearing from a distance.

How to Beat Paula – Second Phase

In this phase, you must keep moving forward as the area of light constantly shifts. Paula will retreat, and you’ll notice that the remaining four wings have turned red—perfect for your Dentist weapon.

The second phase, in essence, is similar to the first—Paula won’t introduce any new moves, although she may summon a tougher enemy wrapped in darkness. Try to eliminate this enemy quickly, as it can easily become a nuisance. A couple of shotgun blasts combined with a Light Shot should suffice.

If your health runs low and you’re out of health drinks, don’t worry—new ones will appear every few meters.

It’s just a matter of moving forward, dodging previously known projectiles and the encroaching darkness, and dismantling Paula’s wings until none remain red. Upon successfully breaking them all, a cutscene will initiate, signaling that the boss fight is nearly concluded.

As a final touch, the concluding moments of the confrontation feature a humanized Paula. There is no need for you to attack or inflict damage—simply remain with her and endure as the encroaching Darkness drains your health.
