Quick Links
Phasmophobia features 12 maps of different sizes. Often, players see a Daily Task prompting them to explore a Medium Map. The size of the map significantly influences the difficulty of ghost-hunting in Phasmophobia; larger maps can make it harder to locate the ghost while increasing the risk of losing sanity, which can lead to more frequent ghost hunts. In Phasmophobia, the map size generally relates to the number of rooms. The smallest map, 6 Tanglewood Drive, includes just 10 rooms, while the largest, Sunny Meadows, boasts an impressive 69 rooms.
Completing typical ghost-hunting tasks, as well as Daily and Weekly Tasks in Phasmophobia, can provide players with extra revenue and XP, helping them to progress and acquire better ghost-hunting tools. Each day, four Daily Tasks reset at midnight, and every Monday, four Weekly tasks reset as well. These tasks can be undertaken solo or as part of a team. One recurrent Daily Task that often perplexes players involves playing a Medium Map. Successfully completing this task awards players with 150 in-game currency and XP, making it the most lucrative Daily Task reward available.
Understanding Medium Maps
Finishing the Challenge
In Phasmophobia, only two maps are officially regarded as “medium” in size: Prison and Maple Lodge Campsite. When the Daily Task requires players to explore a Medium Map, these are the only options available. The Prison features 31 rooms across two levels, unlocked for players who reach Level 11, while Maple Lodge Campsite has 28 rooms across its two stories and is unlocked at Level 13.

How Horror Co-Op Games Like B4B & Phasmophobia Keep Things Scary
Many survival horror video games create fright by isolating the player, while others use cooperative gameplay to generate fear.
Medium Maps in Phasmophobia typically feature more intricate layouts than the smaller maps or the larger Brownstone High School and Sunny Meadows. The Prison Map, for instance, has two wings full of barred cell blocks, including an upstairs walkway that leads to narrower, more confined areas where the ghost can easily pursue players. Maple Lodge, on the other hand, consists of two distinct, sprawling campsites located mainly outdoors, complete with tents, a main office, a restroom building, and a cabin by the lake.
Top Strategies for Navigating Medium Maps
Essential Tips & Tricks
To successfully navigate Medium Maps in Phasmophobia, consider adopting these strategies:
Team Up with Friends
Medium Maps in Phasmophobia are best tackled with a group of three or more players. A larger team means you can bring more equipment and cover more ground when trying to track the ghost’s location at the start of the investigation. If you’re playing with a full squad of four, pairing up is effective. Each pair should ideally carry at least one EMF Reader, Parabolic Microphone, or Thermometer, split between the two main areas of the map. In the Prison, these areas include the two cell blocks and the adjoining hallways; at Maple Lodge, players can explore the two campsites or a combination of the campsites and the cabin.
Familiarize Yourself with the Layouts
To enhance your chances of success on a Medium Map, it’s wise to review the map from the truck or search for a layout image online. Familiarizing yourself with the typical locations of power Breakers, Cursed Possessions, and Hiding Spots will be extremely helpful. Discovering the Breaker’s location early allows you to turn on the lights quickly. Cursed Possessions can assist in locating the ghost’s room or gathering information, and while hiding spots may vary, knowing the general area of the safest locations can prove beneficial during a ghost hunt.
Use Top-Quality Equipment
In Phasmophobia, equipment is categorized into Tiers, allowing players to unlock superior tools as they level up. Given the specific challenges posed by Medium Maps, it’s advisable to select a full loadout of the highest-tier equipment available. This means that you should aim to carry the maximum number allowed for each piece of gear currently unlocked. When hiking with a team, make sure players have access to Tier III equipment to streamline the investigation process.
Utilize Loops
When being pursued by a ghost in Phasmophobia, the ability to loop can be critical when hiding is not an option. Hiding in Phasmophobia works only if players can break line of sight with the ghost, which can be difficult on these maps. Medium Maps offer various locations suitable for looping during a ghost chase. In the Prison, for instance, players can loop around tables in the nearby cell blocks or cafeteria, while at Maple Lodge, good looping spots are available around the picnic tables or campfires.
To loop effectively, players should keep a smudge stick and lighter in their inventory, ready to use if the ghost unexpectedly changes direction.
Harness the Power of Sound
The Parabolic Microphone can be particularly helpful on medium and large maps in Phasmophobia. While using it, perform large, slow sweeps to follow sounds, particularly when using Tier II and III equipment to pinpoint where the ghost is moving or making noise. Additionally, setting up sound sensors in major areas of a Medium Map and having one player monitor from the truck can facilitate tracking the ghost, as deploying four sound sensors will cover ample ground.
Stay in the Light
Medium Maps commonly feature “dark rooms” where sanity drains more rapidly, even when the lights are on. Maple Lodge, in particular, is predominantly outdoors, relying on the light from campfires and string lights. To maintain sanity and allow adequate time for investigations, players should remain in illuminated areas as much as possible.
Positioning near a candle or lantern can reduce sanity drain slightly, and illuminating pathways to the ghost’s room after locating it can also help players conserve sanity and minimize the chances of the ghost initiating a hunt too swiftly in Phasmophobia.
