Great Plateau West Chasm: A Zelda Adventure

Great Plateau West Chasm: Zelda

The Depths contain four chasms, including the Great Plateau West Chasm, which serves as a passage for Link to explore regions of the Depths that would otherwise be unreachable in Tears of the Kingdom.

Getting to the entrance of the Chasm can be a bit challenging, but with some preparation, you shouldn’t encounter too many problems. If you’re in need of guidance for your adventure, including how to navigate the area and return safely, you’ve come to the right place.

Location of Great Plateau West Chasm in Zelda: TotK

To dive into the Depths via the Chasm, be prepared for a trek as it is situated atop Mount Hylia in Zelda: TOTK.

Depending on your approach, you’ll encounter the Diggdog Suspension Bridge to the south and the River of the Dead to the west.

If you have trouble finding the chasm, use these coordinates (-1432, -1993, 0226). The closest notable landmark is the Gerudo Canyon Pass (West). This should guide you to the Great Plateau West Chasm in Tears of the Kingdom.

How to Navigate to the Great Plateau West Chasm in Zelda: TotK

To access this Chasm, quickly travel to the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower and utilize its launchpad to gain altitude. Then, glide northeast to reach the entrance of the Great Plateau West Chasm. This is a straightforward trip, requiring just one stamina unit.

An alternative route is to fast-travel to Tadarok Shrine, located southeast of the Chasm’s entrance. Expect freezing temperatures at the peak of Mount Hylia, so it’s advisable to obtain the Snowquil Armor Set prior to descending into the Great Plateau West Chasm.

Activities in the Great Plateau West Chasm

The Great Plateau West Chasm is home to the Hylia Canyon Mine, which Link must explore during the side quest “A Call from the Depths.” In this adventure, you assist the Bargainer Statue located in the Depths, rewarded with either a health or stamina upgrade.

The Depths feature Light Roots, essential for navigation in Zelda: TotK. After you activate them, you can fast-travel anytime you wish. If you intend to return to the Great Plateau West Chasm, make sure to activate the Koradat Light Root, conveniently located southeast of the Chasm’s exit.

Be prepared for encounters with Yiga Clan foes and a mini-boss, the Hinox, in the vicinity of the Chasm. The Great Plateau West Chasm also leads to the Kawatit Lightroot, which you can activate by heading south from the Hylia Canyon Mine.

Exploring chasms is an integral part of your journey in Tears of the Kingdom, each serving its distinct role. The West Chasm is particularly crucial for the side quest that involves locating and retrieving an eye to present to the Bargainer Statue.
