Meta’s messaging app, WhatsApp, has begun rolling out its highly awaited chat and channel translation feature to select Android users participating in its beta program.
As reported by WABetaInfo, this new functionality is available to those using beta version 2.25.12.25, with a more extensive public release anticipated soon.
This update allows users to translate messages in languages such as Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, Hindi, and Russian directly within the app.
One significant benefit of this feature is that translations occur directly on the device, so users can access it even without an internet connection.
To use this new tool, users will need to download specific language packs, which can be done individually or by selecting a multi-language detection pack.
After the installation, users can find the translation toggle in the chat information screen, enabling this feature for both one-on-one and group conversations.
Moreover, users also have the ability to translate individual messages manually by pressing and holding on a message and then selecting “Translate.”
While the on-device translation system may not yield the same level of accuracy as cloud-based services due to its streamlined design, WhatsApp encourages users to provide feedback to help improve the tool. Notably, all feedback is processed without transmitting message content to Meta, ensuring the protection of user privacy.
Beta testers who have started using the update are urged to share their thoughts to aid in refining this feature before it becomes widely available.
