ISLAMABAD:
On Friday, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, the State Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, celebrated Pakistan’s achievement in securing a spot in the highest category of a global cybersecurity index.
The country was recognized in Tier 1 of the International Telecommunication Union’s Global Cybersecurity Index 2024 report. This top tier, labeled as "role-modeling," includes nations that scored between 95 and 100, with a total of 46 countries making the cut. In the previous report, Pakistan had placed at 79.
During a press conference in Islamabad, Khawaja emphasized that the findings reflect Pakistan’s significant advancements in legal frameworks, technical capacity, skill development, and organizational growth, positioning the nation as a benchmark.
"The Global Cybersecurity Index 2024 highlights the remarkable progress of countries that have enacted vital legal measures, strategic plans, capacity-building initiatives, and collaborative frameworks, particularly in enhancing their incident response capabilities," Khawaja stated.
"Pakistan has excelled in the latest rankings, joining the ranks of countries like the United States, Japan, Singapore, Australia, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia in Tier 1," she added.
