Should You Complete Wyll’s Contract or Seek Solving in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Completing Wyll’s personal storyline in Baldur’s Gate 3 can take up almost the entire game. Each companion has small story threads early on that lead to a big choice in Act 3. Wyll is no different.

When you reach the outskirts of Baldur’s Gate, Wyll will get a chance to break his pact with Mizora for good. But this choice isn’t free; it’s part of a crucial scene. This guide explains how to trigger that scene, the benefits and drawbacks of each option, and how to get the best result for Wyll and the city.

Note: This guide contains spoilers for Act 3 and Wyll’s story. Specific quest details are saved for the final section of this guide.

    Updated March 31, 2026:
This guide now includes the latest updates. It explains how to achieve a win-win situation for Wyll.

    How to Break Wyll’s Contract

You’ll have a chance to free Wyll from Mizora’s hold early in Act 3. Three conditions must be met:

    1. Talk to Gortash during the Archduke ceremony in Wyrm’s Crossing.
    2. After the ceremony, speak to Duke Ravengard with Wyll in your party. Wyll will mention that something isn’t right with his father. Follow up with him at the camp later.
    3. Enter the lower city of Baldur’s Gate.

When these three are done, Mizora will visit your camp after your next long rest. Make sure you camp inside Baldur’s Gate so she appears.

During that conversation, Mizora will say the real Duke Ravengard is being held somewhere you’ll never find. She offers to help if you give her Wyll’s soul forever. This is true whether you freed her earlier or not.

If you sign her contract, she reveals the Duke’s location, allowing your party to plan a rescue. If you refuse, the Duke will die — at least, that’s what she claims.

The catch is, Wyll actually has a way to have his cake and eat it too, but only if you choose carefully. Wyll doesn’t make the final decision; you do. There are no checks or dialogue choices that let him decide himself.

    Important:
You can rescue the Duke without witnessing Mizora’s scene, but doing so will prevent you from choosing to break Wyll’s pact later. If you stumble upon the rescue opportunity early, wait until you’re ready.

What Happens If You Sign the Contract

If Wyll signs Mizora’s new pact, she will tell you where Duke Ravengard is located in the “Should You Break Wyll’s Contract” section below. The map will update with this information. Most party members will agree with Wyll’s decision, even Wyll himself, despite his connection to Mizora.

There are no gameplay penalties for this choice. Wyll’s combat abilities and powers stay the same, and you don’t get any extra rewards. It’s generally not a good option, since you can probably find the location yourself just as easily.

What Happens If You Break the Contract

Breaking Mizora’s pact frees Wyll from his deal, but this doesn’t happen until the very end of the game. Mizora will say that Ulder Ravengard’s life is forfeit, but Wyll is free.

Note: This is a bluff. Duke Ravengard does NOT die immediately. Breaking the contract only makes it harder to rescue him later. You’ll need to track down his location through other clues.

Most party members will have mixed feelings—some will praise Wyll for standing up to Mizora, others will feel conflicted about losing Ulder Ravengard.

Despite ending the pact, Wyll retains his powers and can still be used as a Warlock for the rest of your game. The side quest regarding Duke Ravengard’s location will be affected, but that’s the only change.

    Should You Break Wyll’s Contract?

Yes, since it’s possible to break Mizora’s pact and still rescue Ulder Ravengard in a single playthrough. To do this, look for clues at the docks or in the sewers of the Lower City, often near a “greasy climb-up” point. A spellcaster friend can make finding the location easier.

    For the detailed steps:
Mizora won’t tell you where the Duke is. Instead, you need to find the Iron Throne — a submerged prison. Head to the east of Baldur’s Gate docks, inside the Flymm Cargo Warehouse (coordinates X: -161, Y: -141), and use the basement hatch.

    Here’s a map for reference:

    • [Map of the Iron Temple submarine location and prison entrance]

Once there, persuade or fight the owner of the submarine, then use it to reach the Iron Throne prison. Keep in mind that boarding the submarine triggers a timer— the prison is exploding. Everyone has five turns to escape after the door closes.

Your goal is to save Duke Ravengard. Focus on rescuing him first. Use spells like Misty Step, Freedom of Movement, or Haste to move quickly.

To free prisoners, interact with the levers near their cells—either up close or from a distance. Most prisoners are not vital, but one important character is Omeluum. He might be behind other prisoners and can teleport himself and one ally directly to the submarine if you reach him quickly.

Once the Duke is free, lead him to the submarine before the time runs out. He’ll follow, but beware of potential enemies blocking the exits.

After rescuing him, either leave or attempt to save more prisoners, including Omeluum if possible.

Once aboard the submarine, you can decide to escape or continue searching for other prisoners. The main priority is Ulder Ravengard to advance Wyll’s story. After rescuing him, speak to the Duke back at camp for storyline progression and possible character interactions. Mizora’s dialogue will also change afterward but won’t affect gameplay much.

This route is the most fulfilling, leading to the best ending of Wyll’s quest with no long-term downsides. You’ll also see that Wyll is no longer controlled by Mizora, and Duke Ravengard is safe.

Note: The next section reveals Duke Ravengard’s location and how to finish this part of Wyll’s story. If you want to discover it yourself, stop reading now and try to piece together clues from the hints above.

  • Solving Every Trial of Love in Baldur’s Gate 3

Solving Every Trial of Love in Baldur’s Gate 3

Finding true love in Baldur’s Gate 3 isn’t straightforward. However, if you’re determined to test it, the Circus of Last Days in Act 3 offers the perfect setting. How well do you really know your companions? Can you give them the answers they want, even if those answers aren’t entirely honest?

While honesty can be tough, it doesn’t have to be difficult if you choose the right responses. To help you out, here’s a cheat sheet for romance. Keep it handy—you never know when you might need it during your next date night in Faerûn.

Updated March 28, 2026, by Kaitlyn Peterson: This guide now reflects recent patch updates. All answers have been revised for each companion to suit different situations. Also, there’s new info about a possible surprise appearance during the trial.

Where To Find The Trial Of Love

The Trial of Love is inside the Circus of the Last Days. You can access it immediately after entering Rivington for the first time. After arriving there, follow the main road and look on the left side. You’ll see a man handing out flyers next to a Ghoul named Benji. Talk to him, and he’ll let you in.

Alternatively, you can sneak into the circus from the back through the graveyard at the Open Hand Temple.

    Inside The Circus

On the main path at the circus, keep walking until you meet Zethino, a druid standing under a big tree in the middle of the grounds. Talk to her, and she’ll ask if someone from your party is interested in taking the test. Your choices are limited to your current companions, provided they have a high enough opinion of you—even if no romantic feelings are involved.

If you’re playing cooperatively, only the companions with you count. To test with someone not present, you’ll need to go back to camp and bring along that character.

Note: You can only complete the Trial of Love once per campaign, even in co-op mode. Only one of you can finish it, so consider carefully.

Correct Answers For The Trial Of Love

The structure of the trial remains the same, but the questions and ideal answers depend on which companion you bring. You’ll face three questions, and your goal is to choose the best answers. Interestingly, honesty isn’t always the best approach. Sometimes, giving a response your companions prefer will win their approval more than truthful answers.

Even if you get every answer wrong, it won’t harm your relationship with your chosen companion. Still, paying attention to these details can help with their side quests and conversations later, especially since many partner quests end in the Lower City.

Note: If you’ve met Orin before attempting the trial, Zethino might be one of her disguises. It doesn’t affect the trial but is part of the build-up to the fight with Orin.

Below are the answers that are both correct and will be approved by your companions:

    Character Question 1 Question 2 Question 3
    Astation When he’s elbow-deep in gore. +1 Me. +2 (if romancing) / Revenge. +1 Breaking a nail. +2 / Most things fear him. +1
Gale A shiny red apple. +1 On his balcony in Waterdeep. +2 He thinks he, and the world, might be better off if he were dead. +2
Halsin Restless and roaming. +2 As a bear, in nothing but fur. +1 Saving Thaniel and banishing the shadow curse. +2
Karlach Gortash. +2 Bashing baddies, then victory sex. +2 Settling in a quiet village with a partner and kids. +2
Lae’zel To ascend (if following Vlaakith). +2 Finding the truth about Orpheus. +1 Tearing limbs from Sea of Night beasts. +2 / Living as a kith’rak. +2
Minthara Killing her siblings. +2 Nobody. +2 Being captured by the Absolute cult. +2
Shadowheart Good company and vintage. +1 Can change like night and day. +2 (if abandoned Shar). +2 Remaining discreet. +2 / She doesn’t know herself. +1 / She can’t swim. +1 / Failing her goddess. +1
Wyll Memories of their first night. +2 A flagon of ale. +1 Balduran. +2 / Ulder Ravengard. +1

Note: Some characters, like Jaheira and Minsc, will refuse to participate or may have specific conditions for involvement.

This sheet should help you navigate the Trial of Love more easily. Remember, the best answers are those that align with your companion’s preferences—and sometimes, a little strategic lying goes a long way.

  • Should You Kill or Save Shadowheart’s Parents in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Should You Kill or Save Shadowheart’s Parents in Baldur’s Gate 3?

If you decide to follow the dark path of the Dark Justiciar, you’ll find Shadowheart’s parents hanging in the House of Grief after defeating them. Lady Shar will then demand that Shadowheart execute her own parents. This is definitely the evil route.

Allowing Shadowheart to kill her parents results in their death, but it has deeper consequences. Their souls are sent into eternal torment in Shar’s dark afterlife, forever separated from her worship. The only silver lining is that Shadowheart’s memory will be wiped again as she gains more power, meaning she won’t remember her parents and won’t believe you if you tell her what happened. You’re left with the burden of this decision.

Choosing this route also boosts Shadowheart’s power. Any remaining Justiciars in the previous room will come under her control and fight alongside you in the final battle. However, be careful not to kill all the Justiciars in that room, as you’ll need some of them to join your team during the last fight. Without allies, you’ll miss out on key benefits of this choice.

    —

If instead you follow the Sune path, after defeating Mother Superior, Shar will still appear in the House of Grief and push Shadowheart to kill her parents. Killing them here is a very different story. If Shadowheart walks the light of Selune, she can choose to spare her parents. Both options will lead to her parents being rescued and joining your camp for the rest of the game.

To convince her to make this decision herself, you can trigger some memories in the Lower City that remind her of her past life. There are three spots where these memories can be unlocked:

    1. Allister Marnley’s Grave (X: 24, Y: 14)
    2. Graffiti on a wall near the Baldur’s Gate waypoint (X: -214, Y: -32)
    3. Shadowheart’s hidden spot in the Night Orchid cave, the basement of the House of Grief

You only need two of these memories to motivate her, but high approval with Shadowheart is helpful. Even if you don’t revisit these places, you can still persuade her to save her parents by supporting her emotionally and encouraging her to make her own choice.

If you decide to save her parents, they will be brought back to camp and have a chance to live out their days peacefully. Emmeline, Shadowheart’s mother, will still suffer from severe memory loss and declining health but will offer wisdom and comfort. Arnell, her father, will consistently give advice, and both will help lift Shadowheart’s mood throughout the story.

However, keep in mind that her curse remains. It is mysterious but causes her intense nightly pain and torture that will continue for her entire life. Despite this, if she survives, Shadowheart will eventually accept her loss and offer to stay with you, moving on despite her guilt. In romantic endings, she might openly admit her longing to reconnect with her parents, revealing her deep feelings and regrets.

    —

In a different scenario, if you betray Shar and choose to save Shadowheart’s parents, both routes (Shar or Selune) will lead to her parents being freed and joining your camp. To ensure this, support her in making her own decision when the moment comes. You may also want to trigger specific memories in the Lower City to strengthen her resolve—visiting places like Allister Marnley’s Grave, the graffiti near the waypoint, or her secret spot in the Sombre Embrace basement can help. These prompt her to comment and then speak with you, reinforcing her choice.

Just be aware: her parents will survive, but her curse remains. She will continue to suffer nightly pain, a burden that will likely persist, and her memory of her past will stay intact. Still, she might eventually settle down with her parents near you, living out her days, even as she endures centuries of the curse.

If you are romancing Shadowheart, she might express a desire to reconnect with her family, saying she would have given anything to speak with them again, even if it meant continuing her curse. Supporting her in saving her parents aligns with her true feelings and may lead to a bittersweet, emotionally rich ending.

    —

Throughout all choices, significant relationships and pivotal decisions shape Shadowheart’s fate. Whether she bears her curse in silence or finds peace with her past, the route you choose leaves a lasting mark on her story.

  • What to Do in the Githyanki Creche Infirmary: Solving in Baldur’s Gate 3

What to Do in the Githyanki Creche Infirmary: Solving in Baldur’s Gate 3

One of the main issues you and your companions face in Baldur’s Gate 3 is contracting a Mind Flayer Parasite. Throughout the game, you’ll encounter various quests aiming to cure you of this illness. One of the earliest quests involves Lae’zel trying to locate the nearest Githyanki Creche.

You can find the Githyanki Creche along the Mountain Pass. After reaching the Rosymorn Monastery, you’ll come across a Githyanki in the infirmary who is studying Mind Flayer parasites and wants to use the Zaith’isk device to attempt a cure. Keep in mind that if you previously allowed Volo to try curing you, you might already be aware that these procedures can have unexpected consequences.

Purifying yourself of the Illithid parasite is a top priority in Baldur’s Gate 3. Your party will frequently try different methods to eliminate it. While none are guaranteed to work, they often result in temporary buffs or debuffs. It’s important to know what to expect from each attempt. This guide has been updated with all relevant information after the latest game patch.

Should You Tell Ghustil That You Are Infected?

When you reach the Creche, you’ll be free to explore and talk to the various inhabitants. One of the first characters you’ll meet is Ghustil, a Githyanki working in the Creche’s Infirmary. If you haven’t already, it’s best to have Lae’zel in your party for this part of the story.

You’ll also be here to speak with Vlaakith and present the artifact, but it’s important to do the infirmary tasks before that. Speaking with Vlaakith first will make the entire Creche hostile and prevent access to the Zaith’isk device. Finishing the infirmary quest first may trigger a small fight, but it doesn’t extend to the rest of the Creche. Additionally, doing the scene with Ghustil beforehand makes it easier to convince Lae’zel to stand down if you refuse Vlaakith’s orders. Otherwise, you’ll need a high check to persuade Lae’zel to follow your lead.

When discussing the parasite with Ghustil, you can choose to admit you’re infected or claim a friend is. If you lie about having a friend, you’ll be forced to admit your own infection to proceed. Ghustil will not get upset if you admit your infection and will agree to use the Zaith’isk device to cure you. However, Lae’zel will insist on using it first.

Should You Let Lae’zel Use the Zaith’isk First?

Lae’zel’s approval will decrease if you deny her the chance to use the Zaith’isk. Conversely, you’ll gain her approval if you let her go first, as this is what she’s been eager for since you met her. If you want to see the outcomes of both options, it’s best to save your game, let her go first, then reload and choose to go first yourself.

    Choice Relationship Impact Lae’zel Approval
Tell Lae’zel to stand back politely No change +3 Lae’zel
Let Lae’zel go first No change +10 Lae’zel

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter who enters the Zaith’isk first, as the device causes whoever is inside to start dying. A strange entity, called the Dream Visitor, will warn you to stop. At this point, you must succeed in several skill checks before proceeding. Saving before attempting is highly recommended because the saves are difficult.

How to Pass All Saving Throws in the Zaith’isk

The required Saving Throws to resist damage from the Zaith’isk are intentionally tough. Before entering, ensure your character has equipped gear or items that boost relevant stats. During your time inside, you’ll need to make difficult checks to convince yourself or Lae’isk to exit.

    • You’ll need to succeed on a 30 Deception or Persuasion check to convince either yourself or Lae’isk to leave.
    • Successfully convincing Lae’isk to exit will grant you a +1 Approval boost from everyone.

Encouraging Lae’isk or succeeding in skill checks while inside will increase her approval. The stats needed to succeed on the saving throws include:

    • 12 Intelligence
    • 15 Wisdom
    • 18 Constitution (or other values depending on your class)

If you manage to withstand the Zaith’isk, you will gain a permanent “Awakened” buff. This allows you to use any of your Illithid Powers as a bonus action from that point onward.

How to Increase Your Odds of Success

Since these checks rely on dice rolls, there’s no guarantee of success. Improving your chances involves increasing your character’s stats with items like Auntie Ethel’s Hair, which grants +1 to any ability score permanently. Other armor and accessories, such as amulets, can boost ability scores temporarily. Check your inventory and camp supplies for these useful items, and swap them in and out as needed.

What If You Fail the Zaith’isk?

Failing the saving throws causes whoever was inside to lose -1 to all ability scores used in the checks. This penalty can be reversed by consuming a Mind Flayer sample, but this isn’t a desirable outcome. To improve your chances, make sure your character’s stats are as high as possible and save your game beforehand.

Regardless of success or failure, the Dream Visitor will intervene to prevent death and will pull you or Lae’isk out of the device. Ghustil will be upset that her machine is broken but will still want to extract the parasite.

    Should You Lie to Ghustil?

Once you exit the Zaith’isk, you can try convincing Ghustil that it worked or argue with her. If you cannot persuade her it was successful, she will leave angrily and lock the door behind her. You can attempt to lockpick the door to follow her, but if you do not leave immediately, she will return with backup, leading to a fight with the entire infirmary staff. During this fight, you will need to kill her and some young Githyanki.

The rest of the Creche will not turn hostile after this fight, so you’re free to explore and speak with other characters afterward. Following this, Lae’zel will want you to speak with the captain about tampering with the Zaith’isk, but you won’t be able to discuss it with Kith’rak. From there, you can continue with other tasks, such as taking a Githyanki Egg, which you can convince Lae’zel to raise, or speaking with Vlaakith.

  • Auntie Ethel’s Hag Potions and Their Effects in Baldur’s Gate 3

Auntie Ethel’s Hag Potions and Their Effects in Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3 offers a vast, detailed world full of discoveries. You can spend hours exploring and still find new, surprising things. One notable detail occurs in the first act, involving the Hag.

Auntie Ethel, also known as the Hag living in the teahouse west of the Emerald Grove, has an unusual living situation. Her house connects to a cave system and an underground lair, where you can find some interesting brewing ingredients and potions toward the end.

All Of Auntie Ethel’s Hag Potion Effects

After navigating her lair and dealing with Auntie Ethel, you’ll find a room filled with various items. Besides the more obvious rewards like the Bitter Divorce wand and the Staff of Crones, there are many oddly named potions. These potions each have unique effects, many of which are negative.

Many of these potions are more for experimentation than practical use. They generally don’t sell for much gold, and most aren’t very useful. The few that might be somewhat helpful are Heart of Stone, Broken Promises, and A Mother’s Loathing, but their usefulness is limited and situational.

    How To Remove Curses

Some of the potions listed above impose curses. These curses can sometimes be removed by taking a long rest, but others require the Remove Curse spell. This spell can be learned by Clerics, Paladins, Wizards,, and Warlocks and is a Level 3 spell. Using it can lift curses caused by certain potions or effects.

  • Top Building Tips for Minthara in Baldur’s Gate 3: Completing and Solving

Top Building Tips for Minthara in Baldur’s Gate 3: Completing and Solving

Minthara, the mysterious drow paladin, provides a special chance for players in Baldur’s Gate 3 to explore her layered skills and dark charm. She can be both an ally and a foe, with her true potential revealed through a carefully chosen build—much like any other paladin.

Her natural talent for fighting, oath-based powers, and flexible roleplaying make her a good pick for different play styles. This guide covers the top builds for Minthara, focusing on her subclass options, feats, and the best strategies to maximize her abilities during battles and story moments.

Updated November 18, 2025 by Ryan Thompson-Bamsey: We’ve refined this guide to include the popular and powerful Sorcadin build for Minthara. The recruitment section has also been updated.

    Minthara Overview

Minthara is a drow paladin and one of your first enemies in Baldur’s Gate 3—especially if you play a traditional good-aligned game. She leads goblin forces against the Druid Grove, all under the orders of Ketheric Thorm, one of the three chosen of the Absolute.

    Her base stats are:

    • Strength: 17
    • Dexterity: 12
    • Constitution: 13
    • Intelligence: 8
    • Wisdom: 10
    • Charisma: 15

Her default paladin subclass is Oath of Vengeance. Although you can switch her class as you prefer, this guide emphasizes her story-aligned version—focusing on her devotion to her oath and her conviction, even without a deity.

Regardless of her class path, Minthara has the skill Soul Branding—a bonus action that adds fire damage to her or an ally’s next attack. She carries the Brand of the Absolute, which grants her benefits from certain items found mainly in Act 1.

Image description: Minthara talking to the player, set in a scenic background.

    How to Recruit Minthara

There are two ways to bring Minthara to your side, depending on your play style:

    1. Siding with the goblins:

    • Agree to help Minthara raid the Druid Grove in the Goblin Camp.
    • Kill the Tieflings and Druids during the raid (this will make Wyll and Karlach leave your party permanently).
    • In Act 2, at Moonrise Towers, rescue her from interrogation. Once freed, she will join your camp.

    2. Opposing the goblins:

    • Avoid talking to Minthara at her camp.
    • Fight her using non-lethal attacks—knock her out with melee strikes, ensuring the killing blow is a melee attack, then proceed.
    • Continue with the rest of the Goblin Camp quest. Later, at Moonrise Towers, she will be found imprisoned and can be rescued to join your party.

Building Minthara as an Oath of Vengeance Paladin

Minthara excels in dealing damage through melee attacks, spells, and smites, but she struggles with resource recovery unless resting. Her Soul Branding skill helps keep her pressure high even when spell slots are gone.

We recommend a multiclass build called Sorcadin, which combines Paladin and Sorcerer classes. This build aims to gain Aura of Protection and access third-level Sorcerer spells with Metamagic for huge damage bursts.

Suggested Ability Scores (re-spec at Withers recommended):

    • Strength 17
    • Charisma 17
    • Constitution 14
    • Dexterity 10
    • Wisdom 10
    • Intelligence 8

    Level progression:

    Level Features Feats / ASIs
2 Divine Smite, Fighting Style (Great Weapon)
3 Choose Oath (Vengeance) or others
4 Ability Score Improvement or Feat Great Weapon Master
5 Extra Attack, Save Spells (2nd level)
    6 Continue Paladin
7 Multiclass into Sorcerer (Draconic Bloodline—Fire)
8 Metamagic (Quickened Spell, Twinned Spell)
10 Increase Charisma to 17 Ability Score Improvement (+2 CHA)
12 Add Metamagic Point, Draconic feature

    Playstyle:
This build revolves around converting Sorcerer spell slots into melee burst damage with Divine Smite. Minthara attacks twice per turn (with Extra Attack) and adds Smite to each hit. By casting high-impact spells like Haste or Hold Person as a Bonus Action via Metamagic, she can perform two powerful Smite attacks per round.

Using spells like Concentrated Blast (unlocked from Illithid powers) helps finish off enemies or interrupt concentration supports like Bless.

    Equipment Recommendations

As a frontline fighter, Minthara benefits from heavy armor and shields. With her Brand of the Absolute, she can also use various branded items, although not all are beneficial for her Oath of Vengeance path.

    Key gear includes:

    • Heavy armor like Adamantine Splint Armor or Reaper’s Embrace set.
    • Accessories that boost Charisma and Constitution—such as Blood of Lathander.
    • Endgame gear suggestions:
      • Birthright (sets CHA to 20 if desired).
      • Helldusk Armor: grants Fire Resistance and MPH magic.
      • Cloak of Protection: +1 AC, saves.
      • Gloves of Hill Giant Strength: max STR if you allocate points elsewhere.
      • Helldusk Boots: prevent being forced away.
      • Amulet of Greater Health: maximizes HP and concentration checks.
      • Rings of Regeneration for healing per turn, or Killer’s Sweetheart for critical hits post-kill.
      • Balduran’s Giantslayer weapon: doubles STR damage, excellent for burst damage when Smited.

Prioritize heavy armor and Charisma-boosting items, especially during the endgame, to maximize her durability and damage output.

  • Top Builds for Karlach in Baldur’s Gate 3: Completing and Solving

Top Builds for Karlach in Baldur’s Gate 3: Completing and Solving

Karlach is a melee-focused companion in Baldur’s Gate 3, known for her fiery rage and her infernal engine lodged in her chest. With a solid build, she can clear out groups of enemies effortlessly, often dealing more damage than many spellcasters when optimized properly.

Today, we’ll explore two strong builds that turn Karlach into the ultimate barbarian. Both are straightforward to develop, enjoyable to play, and capable of causing huge damage with the right gear. You can unleash a rapid barrage of melee strikes or craft items around Karlach into deadly weapons.

Updated November 18, 2025: We’ve improved the ranged version of this guide by adding some stealth elements and increasing her throwing capabilities.

    Karlach Overview

    • Race: Zariel Tiefling
    • Starting Class: Barbarian
    • Background: Outlander
    • Proficiencies: Athletics, Intimidation, Perception, Survival

Her high Strength makes her perfect for wielding heavy two-handed weapons or tossing environmental objects as improvised weapons, which suits her rage-filled nature. To make her effective at ranged combat, feats like Tavern Brawler can scale her improvised damage, though she’s primarily built for cleaving enemies apart with a giant sword. Support her with spells like Haste, and she’ll become a force to be reckoned with.

    Best Melee Build for Karlach

This setup uses an 8/4 multiclass split between Barbarian and Fighter, blending the best of both. Level her mainly as a Barbarian through Act 1, then dip into Fighter during Act 2 to unlock Action Surge, which grants an extra attack per turn once per short rest. With this, she can attack up to four times in a round, or six times when buffed with Haste.

Maximize damage by boosting Strength and taking the Great Weapon Master feat, adding +10 damage to each attack. Coupled with a strong two-handed weapon, Karlach can dominate enemies turn after turn throughout the game. This build is easy to play, delivers impressive damage, and scales smoothly.

    Leveling Strategy

    • Focus on reaching level 5 in Act 1.
    • Gain Reckless Attack at level 2 (for advantage on attacks).
    • Pick the Wildheart subclass at level 3, choosing between Bear (damage reduction) or Eagle (dive attack and bonus Dash).
    • At level 4, take an Ability Score Improvement (ASI) and select the Great Weapon Master feat.
    • Level 5 grants an extra attack and Fast Movement.
    • Add Fighter levels for Action Surge and Fighting Style, then pick between Battle Master (disarm, frighten) or Champion (crit chance).
    • Respec her stats later using the Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strength for even higher damage output.

Key Talents: Max Strength, Great Weapon Master, and a potent melee weapon.

    How to Grow the Build

    • Prioritize reaching level 5 early; Reckless Attack at level 2.
    • Choose the Wildheart barbarian subclass to enhance Rage with Bear or Eagle.
    • Level 4 grants an ASI—get Great Weapon Master for maximum damage.
    • Extra attack at level 5 makes her deadly.
    • Use spells like Haste to multiply attacks; Haste allows up to six attacks per turn.

    Recommended Equipment

    • Early: a +1 two-handed weapon (like Balduran’s Giantslayer) enhances damage.
    • Endgame: Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strength set her Strength to 23, boosting damage and attack rolls.
    • Other gear: items increasing damage, improving AC, or boosting saving throws, such as the Adamantine Scale Mail for critical hit immunity and rings that enhance strength or damage.

    Ranged Melee Hybrid Build

While Barbarians aren’t known for ranged attacks, this build makes her a formidable threat from afar. Using the Tavern Brawler feat, she can turn anything into a damage-dealing weapon, even throwing enemies or environmental objects. Pair with the Berserker subclass to maximize thrown damage, and throw enemies off cliffs or hurl objects mid-combat.

Max damage is achieved by multiclassing into Rogue (Thief subclass) for Fast Hands, allowing two Frenzied Throws per turn. Combining this with Barbarian’s Extra Attack and Action Surge, she can unleash massive damage at range.

    Leveling Approach

    • Focus on levels 4 in Barbarian, then multiclass into Rogue (4 levels) and Fighter (3 levels).
    • Take Tavern Brawler at level 4 for doubled Throw damage.
    • Gain Cunning Action at Rogue level 2 for quick repositioning.
    • Use Rogue’s Quick Hands to throw/attack more often.
    • At Fighter levels, get Action Surge and Fighting Style.

Key Tactics: Use environment and thrown weapons for high damage. Keep supplies of javelins and thrown weapons like Nyrulna (a thunder-javelin that returns).

    Equipment Tips for Ranged Build

    • Early: stockpile Javelins and Storm Throw (Returning Pike).
    • Late game: use Disintegrating Night Walkers boots for mobility and Misty Step.
    • Main weapon: Nyrulna or similar returning javelins, paired with items increasing thrown damage.

    Ranged Build Highlights

    • Great early damage by throwing weapons.
    • Can use enemies as improvised weapons for extra damage.
    • Fun and simple to level.
    • Requires a stash of weapons but offers high offense and mobility.

Both builds rely on a strong melee foundation but can be adapted for ranged combat if preferred. The key is maximizing damage output, supporting her with spells and gear, and adjusting her stats and feats for your playstyle.

  • Gnome Rescue Mission: Guide to Free Barcus Quickly

Gnome Rescue Mission: Guide to Free Barcus Quickly

In Baldur’s Gate 3, the sidequest called “Rescue the Gnome” is a straightforward part of Act One that can have long-lasting effects on your game. You can start this quest soon after finishing the tutorial because it’s easy to access and is close to your starting area.

Like many side missions in Baldur’s Gate 3, this quest is connected to a bigger story that continues throughout the game. Here’s everything you need to know about how to begin, complete, and handle the consequences of this quest.

Where to Find the “Rescue the Gnome” Quest

To start “Rescue the Gnome,” head to the location shown on the map above. The quest begins in the Blighted Village, which lies just east of the Goblin Camp, southwest of the Emerald Grove, and far northwest of the Nautiloid crash site.

Once you arrive at the Blighted Village, go to its northwest corner. You can either fast-travel to the nearby spot and walk west or follow the path around the area. If you see a windmill, you’re heading in the right direction.

How to Play Through the “Rescue the Gnome” Quest

To free Barcus from the windmill, enter the area and you’ll be confronted by the goblin Fezzerk and his gang. They’ve tied Barcus to one of the windmill blades as part of their mischief, and they’re not pleased about your interference.

During the encounter, you have four main options:

    1. Talk your way out: Use your speech skills to convince the goblins to leave peacefully. This is easier if you’ve already visited the Goblin Camp and accepted the Brand of the Absolute or if you’re playing as a drow.
    2. Bribe them: They will ask for 1,000 gold coins. You might try to haggle; however, Fezzerk isn’t good with math, and he might accept just 5 gold regardless of what you offer.
    3. Use your Mind Powers: If you have mind control abilities, this is the easiest way to convince Fezzerk to back off.
    4. Fight: Attack the goblins if you prefer combat. The fight isn’t too hard, and if Fezzerk’s health gets low, the rest of the gang usually runs away.

Using your mind control powers is highly recommended, as it’s the simplest way to persuade Fezzerk. Just be aware you can typically only use this option once per long rest.

After successfully dealing with the goblins, Fezzerk will leave, allowing you to talk to Barcus. He’ll tell you he’s desperate to get free. Explore behind the windmill to find an opening; inside, you will see two levers:

    • “Release Brake” lever: Pulling this makes the windmill spin faster, freeing Barcus but also risking him being flung to his death.
    • “Brake” lever: Pulling this will stop the windmill, and you can then untie and speak with Barcus again.

Either way, pulling one of these levers ends the quest. If you leave without acting, Barcus will die, and the quest will end soon after. Choosing to free him has its advantages and is the better overall decision.

Should You Free Barcus or Leave Him?

It’s best to rescue Barcus. Although it might seem funny to send him flying, freeing him is the moral and strategic choice. If you save him, he’ll reward you with items found in his bag and share that he is searching for a missing friend named Wulbren Bongle, which opens a new storyline involving saving other deep gnomes.

Later in the game, during Act Two, Barcus can become a merchant at the Last Light Inn, offering unique items like the Ring of Genuinity and the Acrobat Shoes. During this time, he’ll also give you a quest called “Rescue Wulbren,” which leads you to Moonrise Towers and rewards you with powerful gear.

In Act Three, you’ll find Barcus in Angleiron’s Cellar, an underground area, where he may assist you in the final fight if you’ve convinced him to lead the gnomes.

If you choose not to save Barcus, you’ll miss out on his shop and story contributions. The only reward lost is the loot found on his body.

Overall, freeing Barcus in the Blighted Village is the best choice for your playthrough, unlocking new storylines and rewards. Following the steps outlined above helps you efficiently complete the quest and enjoy the full experience of Baldur’s Gate 3.

  • Top Lae’zel Build for Completing and Solving in Baldur’s Gate 3

Top Lae’zel Build for Completing and Solving in Baldur’s Gate 3

As you play Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll meet many companions. The first one you encounter is Lae’zel, a fierce githyanki warrior who focuses solely on her mission. She isn’t easy to please if you’re friendly to strangers and prefers to get straight to the point.

While creating your character is simpler in Baldur’s Gate 3 than in many other role-playing games, there are still many choices that can significantly impact your abilities. Making the right selections is crucial to maximizing your effectiveness.

Updated September 13, 2025: We’ve added more specific equipment tips, helpful links, and additional advice for playing Lae’zel effectively.

    Lae’zel Overview

Lae’zel is a strong, aggressive fighter from the githyanki race. You’ll find her early in your journey, initially on a ship with Mind Flayers. After you escape, she’s nearby, trapped by tieflings. Rescuing her is worth it because she’s a top-tier warrior.

    Her stats are:

Strength Dexterity Constitution Intelligence Wisdom Charisma
    17 13 14 11 12 8

With 17 Strength, Lae’zel hits hard. If you invest in increasing her strength further, such as at level four with the Ability Score Improvement feat, she can deal even more damage. Her Dexterity and Wisdom are decent but not exceptional, and her 14 Constitution keeps her relatively tough.

Her primary role is to deal damage—she excels at hitting opponents hard and often.

    Subclass Choices at Level 3:

    • Battle Master
    • Champion
    • Eldritch Knight (less viable for Lae’zel due to low Intelligence)

The Eldritch Knight option requires boosting her Intelligence with magic items like the Warped Band of Intelligence, but since those items are better suited for other characters, most players prefer the Battle Master or Champion paths.

Building Lae’zel as a Battle Master

Lae’zel’s strength makes her ideal for a melee-heavy damage dealer. Once she reaches level 3, she can select the Battle Master subclass, which offers a variety of maneuvers to control the battlefield.

    Recommended progression:

    Level 2:
Gain Action Surge—allowing her to act twice in a turn, excellent in clutch moments.

    Level 3:
Choose the Battle Master subclass. Select maneuvers like:

    • Menacing Attack to fear enemies.
    • Riposte to counterattack when they miss.
    • Distracting Strike to give your allies advantage on attack rolls against distracted enemies.

Also, at this time, she gains the Githyanki Psionics: Jump spell, which is useful for quick repositioning.

    Level 4:
Increase Strength and Dexterity by 1 each to boost her attack and damage.

    Level 5:
Gain Extra Attack, allowing her to attack twice per turn. Also, learn Misty Step, which provides versatile movement.

    Level 6:
Take the Great Weapon Master feat for high damage output, especially with heavy, two-handed weapons. Consider the Goading Attack maneuver to draw enemies’ attention.

    Level 7:
Get two new maneuvers like Trip Attack for controlling enemies and Rally for supporting allies.

    Level 8:
Maximize Strength to 20 for maximum damage.

    Level 9:
Gain Indomitable, rerolling failed saving throws, boosting her survivability.

    Level 10:
Increase her Superiority die to d10, enabling stronger maneuvers, and learn Precision Attack for accuracy and Goading Attack for tanking enemies’ focus.

    Level 11:
    Additional Extra Attack.

    Level 12:
Pick up the Durable feat, improving her ability to withstand damage over time.

This build shines after level 3, especially once she can perform multiple attacks per turn. Using maneuvers like Riposte and Distracting Strike helps keep her alive and control fights effectively. By level 5, her damage potential skyrockets, especially with Action Surge. She becomes a formidable front-line fighter capable of dealing significant damage and drawing enemy fire.

    Equipment Recommendations

Prioritize magical weapons and armor. For Lae’zel, focus on:

    • Two-handed or Versatile weapons that deal high damage.
    • Weapons with the Two-Handed or Versatile tags are ideal. Examples include greatswords or polearms.
    • She’s also proficient with longbows, which make good ranged backups.
    • Her starting armor is quite solid, so she probably won’t need an upgrade early on, freeing resources for other team members.

In Act 2, you can find githyanki equipment from the Creche, which offers bonuses suited for her race. These are useful until better enchanted gear becomes available in Act 3.

Any powerful magical gear you find will significantly boost Lae’zel’s combat prowess. Heavy, magic weapons will enhance her damage, while armor upgrades will improve her durability. Don’t neglect equipping her with items that maximize her strengths, especially those that complement her role as a front-line attacker.

  • Top Builds for Shadowheart: Completing and Solving in Baldur’s Gate 3

Top Builds for Shadowheart: Completing and Solving in Baldur’s Gate 3

Gathering a group of friends and exploring the world of the Forgotten Realms is a classic activity, both in Dungeons & Dragons and in the Baldur’s Gate series. In Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios made a real effort to create engaging and interesting characters to join your party and fight alongside you.

Shadowheart is one of these characters. She’s a mysterious woman full of secrets—so much so that if you can get on her good side, she’ll start sharing more about herself and her past. As a cleric, she’s incredibly useful in battles.

Updated September 11, 2025: We’ve added more details and suggestions for building her, especially focusing on gear that boosts her effectiveness.

    Shadowheart Overview

Shadowheart is a high half-elf cleric belonging to the trickery domain. You can meet her on the nautiloid similar to Lae’zel. She’s trapped in a Mindflayer pod, and if you solve a simple puzzle to free her, she’ll trust you more when you reunite on land.

    Stats:

Strength Dexterity Constitution Intelligence Wisdom Charisma
    13 13 14 10 17 10

Her stats are pretty balanced. A Wisdom of 17 is just above average, but it’s worth boosting. Her decent Dexterity and Constitution help her survive better than many other clerics.

When choosing her domain during character creation, her options are limited unless you reclass her through Withers. However, certain build adjustments can make her more effective from the start.

Best Trickery Cleric Build for Shadowheart

For those who want to keep her as a trickery domain cleric—staying true to her backstory and character—this is the recommended setup. Initially, she plays like any other cleric. Once you start gaining feats and better spells, she becomes a flexible support character with top-tier spells and solid stats for her role.

Note: To optimize this build, plan to visit Withers and reassign her ability scores. Aim for a 10/14/15/10/17/8 spread—adding a +1 bonus to Constitution and +2 to Wisdom, which requires talking to Withers and spending 100 gold.

    Leveling Path and Key Features:

    Level Builds & Abilities
2 Gains Turn Undead and Invoke Duplicity. Turn Undead is handy to scare off undead enemies, though it can be frustrating when you want the fight to end. Invoke Duplicity summons an illusory clone to distract foes, useful with tactical positioning.
3 Unlocks second-level spell slots. Consider spells like Aid, Hold Person, Silence, and Spiritual Weapon. These are versatile and powerful options.
4 Boost Wisdom and Constitution to 16 and 18 for better rolls. Learn a new cantrip; Thaumaturgy is excellent for social interactions.
5 Unlocks third-level spells, including mass healing, animate dead, revivify, and spirit guardians. Also, gain access to spells like Bane, Bless, and various damage spells.
6 Adds a level 3 spell slot and an extra Channel Divinity charge.
7 Obtain access to fourth-level spells like Guardian of Faith and Death Ward.
8 Maxes out Wisdom to 20 and gains Divine Strike: Poison, boosting her melee damage potential.
9 Unlocks fifth-level spells, including flame strike and mass cure wounds, enhancing her damage and healing capabilities.
10 Gains another cantrip and the ability to invoke Divine Intervention, a powerful one-time force of divine power.
11 Gains level 6 spells such as Heal and Harm, plus the ability to create undead.
12 Final level; acquire War Caster feat for better concentration saves.

    Role and Equipment

As a cleric, Shadowheart’s toolkit is highly flexible. Spells like Spirit Guardians and Spirit Weapon are excellent for controlling the battlefield, while ranged healing can save allies in emergencies.

While her weapons are generally handled by dedicated fighters or melee specialists, she can make good use of magical weapons suited to her style, such as The Blood of Lathander or Cazador’s Woe staff. The Phalar Aluve longsword is another decent option if it doesn’t have another owner.

For armor, Luminous Armor stands out. It reduces enemy attack rolls when she deals Radiant damage, especially with spells like Spirit Guardians or Sacred Flame. If she’s more of a front-line fighter, heavier armor like Adamantine Scale Mail can help increase her resilience.

Tip: Consider equipment like Selûne’s Spear of Night or Shar’s Spear of Evening for thematic mid-game options. The Amulet of the Devout is a valuable accessory, providing extra Channel Divinity charges—crucial for top clerics.

    Strengths and Playstyle

Shadowheart is a high-output damage dealer and a control expert thanks to her expansive spell list. Her ability to lock down enemies with Hold Person or Dominate Person is especially useful paired with a strong melee partner. She excels against undead foes—Turn Undead is especially powerful once she’s level 5, and her radiant damage sources stack up quickly.

Her spell choices like Mirror Image and Pass Without Trace not only boost her survivability but also enhance stealth and escape strategies. Heavy armor and certain gear can make her more defensive if you prefer her to be on the front line, and she can still contribute significantly to your party’s success with her versatile spells and abilities.

  • Top Builds for Astarion: Completing and Solving in Baldur’s Gate 3

Top Builds for Astarion: Completing and Solving in Baldur’s Gate 3

Astarion is a well-liked character in Baldur’s Gate 3, and it’s easy to see why. He’s a charming, handsome high elf with a rogueish style and almost supernatural charisma. You’ll meet him early in the game, and he’s quick to join your adventure.

Creating a character in Baldur’s Gate 3 is simple, but there are moments when you have to make important choices, like selecting a subclass or deciding which spells to learn. Astarion is no different.

Updated September 8, 2025: We’ve updated this guide with specific gear recommendations for everyone’s favorite vampire!

    Astarion Overview

Astarion is a high elf rogue with a noble background. There’s something a little off about him, which you’ll probably figure out as you get to know him.

    He has the following stats:

    • Strength: 8
    • Dexterity: 17
    • Constitution: 14
    • Intelligence: 13
    • Wisdom: 13
    • Charisma: 10

As his elf spell, Astarion selected Minor Illusion, which can be useful for distracting enemies, though damage dealing tends to be more advantageous. His high Dexterity makes him an effective rogue, especially with finesse weapons, and his solid Constitution helps with durability.

His attribute spread makes him suitable for sneaky, damage-focused roles. You can build Astarion either for melee combat or ranged attacks, depending on your party’s needs and your preferred playstyle.

    Best Melee Astarion Build

This build uses the thief subclass, which is classic for rogues. Thieves excel at sneaky attacks and can deal colossal damage through Sneak Attack. Additionally, we take five levels in fighter to boost his combat abilities, survival, and action economy with handy class features.

    Key features at each level:

    • Rogue 2: Gain Cunning Actions for bonus Hide, Disengage, or Dash.
    • Rogue 3: Pick the thief subclass with abilities like Fast Hands (extra bonus action) and Second-Story Work (less fall damage).
    • Fighter 1/2: Add Action Surge for extra attack opportunities per fight, and take the Defense fighting style for better AC.
    • Fighter 3: Choose Champion for increased critical hit chance.
    • Fighter 4: Take the Dual Wielder feat to improve dual-wielding and boost AC.
    • Fighter 5: Gain an extra attack, greatly increasing damage output.
    • Rogue 4: Increase Dexterity and Wisdom for better attack rolls and perception.
    • Rogue 5: Uncanny Dodge reduces damage from hits.
    • Rogue 6: Improve Perception and Deception skills.
    • Rogue 7: Evasion for better spell and trap resistance.

With dual weapons, especially finesse ones like daggers, rapiers, or shortswords, Astarion can perform many attacks each turn—up to six with Action Surge and multiple attacks granted by the fighter levels.

A balanced build maximizes damage while maintaining survivability, thanks to features like Evasion and Uncanny Dodge. If you prefer to push his offense even further, consider delaying his final rogue level to gain an extra feat and push Dexterity to 20.

    Recommended equipment:

    • Primary weapons: Two finesse weapons (daggers, rapiers, shortswords).
    • Mid to late game weapons: The Knife of the Undermountain King or the Sword of Life Stealing are excellent for critical hits and extra healing.
    • Armor: Light armor with mobility and stealth enchantments, like Spidersilk Armor or Drow Studded Leather.
    • Accessories: Items like Helldusk Gloves or Amulet of Greater Health boost melee performance.
    • Ring: The Killer’s Sweetheart can significantly improve damage potential.

    Best Ranged Astarion Build

Because Baldur’s Gate 3’s combat allows characters to switch between melee and ranged freely, building a ranged character can be complex but rewarding. This build emphasizes raw damage output and uses multiclassing with some thematic twists to keep Astarion versatile and sneaky.

    Level progression:

    • Rogue 2: Unlock Cunning Actions for bonus Hiding, Dodging, or Retreating.
    • Rogue 3: Choose the Assassin subclass for advantages:
      • Assassinate: Advantage on attack rolls against enemies who haven’t moved, plus automatic critical hits on surprised foes.
      • Assassin’s Alacrity: Reset all actions at the start of combat for surprise attacks.
    • Rogue 3 / Ranger 1: Adds a level of Ranger for more options.
      • Favored Enemy: Beast or Humanoids, with Ensnaring Strike.
      • Natural Explorer: Urban for Sleight of Hand.
      • Fighting Style: Archery for better ranged attack rolls.
      • Spells: Hunter’s Mark and Ensnaring Strike boost damage and control.
    • Rogue 3 / Ranger 2: Pick the Gloom Stalker subclass for stealth and initiative boosts.
    • Ranger 3: Pick the Gloom Stalker for more stealth, motion, and Invisibility.
    • Ranger 4 & 5: Increase Dexterity, gain an Extra Attack, and learn spells like Misty Step and Pass Without Trace to stay elusive.

At high levels, Astarion can attack repeatedly from afar, surprise enemies, and remain hidden between fights. For gear, high-range bows like The Dead Shot are ideal, along with items that enhance stealth and mobility.

    Equipment suggestions:

    • Ranged weapon: Longbow or Heavy Crossbow with magical variants being preferable as you progress.
    • Backup melee: Keep finesse weapons like rapiers for close combat.
    • Armor: Light, enchanted for stealth, mobility, and defense.
    • Accessories: Rings and gloves that boost damage and stealth capabilities.

    Tips for Building Astarion

    • For damage maximums, focus on finesse weapons and dual-wielding to make numerous attacks.
    • Use spells and features like Pass Without Trace and Invisibility to stay hidden.
    • Keep a backup melee weapon for close-range fights.
    • Prioritize gear that boosts Dexterity, stealth, and attack rolls.
    • Don’t forget about self-healing options and defensive features to stay alive longer in battles.

This approach makes Astarion a formidable damage dealer, whether he fights from the front with melee or from behind with ranged attacks. Adjusting equipment and skill choices allows tailoring him to your preferred combat style.

  • Vlaakith Guide: Is Obeying Worth It?

Vlaakith Guide: Is Obeying Worth It?

Vlaakith, the immortal Lich Queen of the Githyanki, can be a dangerous enemy in Baldur’s Gate 3, depending on whether you follow her orders. She’s one of the many powerful beings in the game, but your choices about her have bigger consequences. How you deal with Vlaakith can affect the fate of your ally Lae’Zel and shape the story’s ending.

While exploring Act One, your team has a chance to visit the Githyanki Crèche Y’llek at Rosymorn Monastery. The Githyanki might have a cure for the mind-flayer parasites, and you can choose to negotiate with them to learn more. But you can also skip visiting the crèche altogether and miss the chance to meet Vlaakith.

Should You Obey Vlaakith in Act One?

You Need to Obey Vlaakith… At Least Face-to-Face

If you don’t find a cure at Y’llek, your team can look for Inquisitor Ch’r’ai W’wargaz, who is visiting the crèche. He’s searching for a mysterious artifact, the Astral Prism, which your group gained during a scene near the Goblin Camp from Shadowheart.

This artifact prevents your team from being controlled by The Absolute, but you’re free to decide what to do with it. When you meet the Inquisitor, you can try to give him the Prism or fight to keep it.

No matter your choice, Vlaakith will suddenly appear as a big projection and demand that your party enter the Prism to kill its occupant, the Dream Visitor and Guardian. You can show her respect, but that will earn Lae’Zel’s disapproval.

If you refuse or ask Vlaakith to do the task herself, she will cast the Wish spell, one of the strongest magic in D&D, which will kill your entire party instantly. So, the safest move is to obey Vlaakith and enter the Prism.

Important: During an Honor Mode run, disobeying Vlaakith at the crèche is a very bad idea. It’s guaranteed to end your game instantly.

Once you meet the Dream Visitor inside, you can choose to leave them alone or try to kill them. Kill attempts are pointless—they won’t die—and may cause you to lose trust. Afterward, Vlaakith will betray Lae’Zel and call her a traitor.

Your choices here affect Lae’Zel’s side quest, “The Githyanki Warrior,” and how her story unfolds in Acts Two and Three. If you skip the crèche, she stays loyal to Vlaakith and won’t appear again until later in Act 3.

Deciding how to handle Vlaakith influences your relationship with her and can lead to different endings. Follow her commands or rebel against them, but every decision has its consequences.

Side with Kith’rak Voss Against Vlaakith?

If Vlaakith betrays Lae’Zel, Voss will visit your camp during your next long rest. He’ll try to convince Lae’Zel that Vlaakith is an usurper who stole the throne from Orpheus, a Githyanki prince. After your conversation, Voss heads to Baldur’s Gate.

You might encounter Voss again in Act Three when bargaining with Raphael at Sharess’ Caress. This chat could make Lae’Zel question her loyalty to Vlaakith.

During the talk with Voss, you can choose to align your party with him instead of Vlaakith. If you’ve already been defiant, it’ll be easier. Otherwise, let Lae’Zel decide her own path. Trusting Lae’Zel is often the best move, since she’s more likely to turn away from Vlaakith after betrayal. Giving her independence usually results in better affinity.

The Big Choice: Obey Vlaakith or Side with Voss and Orpheus?

In Act Three, Vlaakith will appear during a long rest and demand Lae’Zel kill Orpheus, promising to make her the army’s leader if she does. Your decision here is crucial: support Vlaakith or side with Orpheus.

It’s generally better not to force Lae’Zel to obey Vlaakith. She can make her own choice based on what she’s learned. If she rebels, she’ll leave for the Astral Plane and lead a rebellion at the end. If she supports Vlaakith, she’s likely to face a darker fate, as hinted by Withers.

Persuasion checks can help sway Lae’Zel to oppose Vlaakith, but her natural path tends to be siding with Orpheus and Voss.

If she joins Voss and Orpheus, she will want to enter the House of Hope to free Orpheus by fetching the Orphic Hammer. If she refuses, she’ll want the Hammer to free and kill Orpheus herself. Your final choice will determine which side you take near the end of Act 3:

    • Free Orpheus: The Emperor joins The Absolute, which forces someone to become a Mind Flayer to defeat it.

    • Side with the Emperor: He will consume Orpheus, gaining his powers to fight The Absolute.

Your decision impacts the ending of the game greatly. The key thing is that during your first meeting, you only need to obey Vlaakith enough to keep your party alive. Later decisions are up to you, but they all have lasting effects.

  • Completing Baldur’s Gate 3: Solving the Dead God of the Astral Plane

Completing Baldur’s Gate 3: Solving the Dead God of the Astral Plane

Who is Withers in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Even after multiple playthroughs of Baldur’s Gate 3, you might still have some questions. For instance, what is Withers’ role? Why does Isobel seem to lack survival instincts? And will Karlach ever manage to fix her heart? The game leaves many mysteries, but one of the biggest is the giant floating skeleton in the Astral Plane where Orpheus is held.

When you first encounter the giant skeleton, it appears with no background information. It’s reminiscent of Knowhere from Marvel Comics. While some players might know Dungeons & Dragons lore, many are left in the dark about the giant being’s identity and how its remains ended up here. Although Baldur’s Gate 3 doesn’t provide clarity, an older game does.

Neverwinter Nights 2 and the Floating Skeleton

A Reddit user named TheParadoxigm pointed out that a loading screen in Neverwinter Nights 2 offers some lore on the Astral Plane. It explains why there’s a giant skeleton and even mentions the living beings that may exist alongside it.

According to the lore, “When a god dies, its body floats endlessly in the emptiness of the Astral Plane.” These remains can become homes for other creatures, like the Githyanki. Some deceased gods are ancient, existing from the very start of the universe and now forgotten by both mortals and other gods.

Given the vastness of the Astral Plane and the many dead gods that likely drift through it, Vlaakith showed resourcefulness by imprisoning Orpheus within one of these skulls. Sadly for her, he eventually gets discovered, leading to significant events in the game.

It’s surprising that Baldur’s Gate 3 does not hint at the giant skeleton in the Astral Plane. A simple comment from Lae’zel or Orpheus would have clarified things for players who aren’t familiar with the backstory. So, when you next find yourself in the giant skull, remember to show it some respect; after all, it once belonged to a god.

  • Baldur’s Gate 3 Fans Tired of Wyll’s Death After Completing Intro

Baldur’s Gate 3 Fans Tired of Wyll’s Death After Completing Intro

While playing Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s easy to miss how funny the game can be. The interactions at camp and the jokes among your companions often bring a smile, even when facing serious threats. Sometimes, the humor comes from unexpected moments.

We see NPCs acting oddly, players using game mechanics in surprising ways, and sheer bad luck leading to hilarious situations. For instance, one player thought a particular NPC was just a joke character, only to discover they were integral to the game.

Wyll Keeps Dying During His Intro Fight

Wyll makes a big impression when you first meet him at the Emerald Grove, where he shows off his flair while helping fight goblins. Players can recruit him later and follow his story. However, Reddit user Iwasdracula missed out on this since Wyll died immediately during his first battle, leading them to believe it was all a joke.

“I thought Wyll was a joke character,” they wrote. “When I started the game, I got to the grove and fought the goblins. Wyll appeared with a cool intro, but he got killed on the first turn. I thought it was a funny scripted moment and just moved on without reviving him, missing his whole story.”

Although Wyll isn’t the most popular companion in Baldur’s Gate 3, this was a rough moment even for him. Many players have shared experiences of Wyll dying in his first battle or being completely overlooked by newcomers. “It’s funny that they included that scene to make him memorable since many players miss him entirely,” noted one user.

Another player commented, “The developers clearly have it out for Wyll. His AI is so bad during the grove fight. He casts a spell that only hits one goblin and often gets killed running into the crowd.” On the other hand, some players disagree, saying, “It’s wild how often people say he dies in this fight. He’s never come close to dying in my games.” It seems opinions on Wyll really vary among players.

Completing Baldur’s Gate 3: Solving the D&D Rules for Newbies

Playing Baldur’s Gate 3 for the first time can be a bit overwhelming, especially if you’re not familiar with Dungeons & Dragons. With so many systems in play, you might spend the first 10-15 hours just figuring everything out, not to mention the time you’ll spend in the detailed character creator.

Baldur’s Gate 3 uses a modified version of the D&D 5E rules, so if you’re not used to tabletop role-playing games, many terms and features might feel strange. Concepts like spell slots, enemy types, and the difference between short and long rests can be confusing. Even after two years, some players still have a hard time grasping all the game’s features.

New Players Are Getting Tripped Up By Baldur’s Gate 3’s D&D Rules

The game’s popularity shows that new players are still jumping in today. While many of us have figured it out through multiple playthroughs, new players are still trying to understand it all. One of the biggest hurdles is spell slots.

I was also confused about why my wizard couldn’t cast spells, so I definitely understand the frustration. A Reddit user pointed out that getting the hang of how spell slots work with rests isn’t easy. This issue is made worse by the fact that various items can help you use spell slots more effectively, but it’s hard to take advantage of those benefits if you don’t grasp the basics.

Another challenge for newcomers is understanding enemy classifications. For instance, a beholder may look like a monster but it doesn’t fall under that category. There are specific classifications based on where the creature comes from. In the case of the beholder, it’s known as an Aberration. That’s why another Reddit user had difficulty resurrecting a beholder with Sovereign Glut’s Animated Spores spell; they didn’t realize they could check an NPC’s details.

Baldur’s Gate 3 contains many complex features, and you might not learn how to use them effectively until your second or third playthrough. However, given how replayable the game is, you will eventually learn to master these features.

    Baldur’s Gate 3: Players Discover Ethel’s Invisibility Isn’t Solved

Aunty Ethel is one of the most wicked characters you’ll find in Baldur’s Gate 3. When she isn’t spewing hate, she uses her flirtatious charm to draw you in. As a vile hag, she preys on people in their most vulnerable moments, and she can be a tough opponent when you choose to confront her.

The first encounter with Ethel can be particularly frustrating since she turns invisible. However, with some preparation, you can make this fight easier. Buying or pickpocketing her Potion of Invisibility from the Emerald Grove will prevent her from disappearing during your battle.

Can’t Go Invisible If You’ve Got No Potion

Despite her dark nature, Aunty Ethel, in her old lady form, can be found at the Emerald Grove selling potions and other items. Interestingly, whatever she has for sale can be used in battle against you. If you take her Potion of Invisibility before the fight, she’ll stay visible during combat.

It seems many assumed that her invisibility was just one of her powers. In reality, she drinks the potion. By stealing it, you make the fight much more manageable. Given how despised she is, reducing her advantages will feel quite rewarding.

This tactic can be useful against other characters too. One player mentioned, “This also works with Balthazar and his speed potion. If you swipe it from him before the fight, he can’t use it.” Balthazar is another annoying foe that can make battles tedious.

However, there are some downsides to this strategy. Another player pointed out, “She can also use anything you sell her.” Some even reported her throwing smokepowder bombs at them in battle. While it’s unclear why anyone would trade smokepowder bombs to her, I plan to buy out her entire stock on my next playthrough.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Fans Enjoy Completing Level 12 Powers at Leisure

Leveling up in video games needs a careful balance. If you level up too quickly, you become too strong, and the game loses its challenge. On the other hand, if leveling up is too slow, it feels frustrating. Baldur’s Gate 3 has struck a great balance with its leveling system.

The game is designed so that players don’t breeze through levels and become unbeatable, nor do they grind endlessly just to access powerful abilities late in the game. Instead, you can reach level 12 while still having enough content left to enjoy being powerful.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Handles Leveling Up Perfectly

Fans have noticed this smart balancing act. Many appreciate that Larian took their time with the leveling system. One user, Grandkahoona01, commented on Reddit, “You hit max level (12) with plenty of game time left.”

They also pointed out that players can reach level 12 early in Act 3, allowing them to use the game’s strongest spells and abilities for about 10 additional hours.

One player mentioned, “I save the big fights for when I hit level 12. It’s so much fun to go all out with high damage against the tougher bosses in Act 3.” Another added, “The game does a good job of keeping your power in check. Some spells and hit points improve, but it doesn’t unleash all the top spells from the books.”

Even players familiar with tabletop RPGs felt that Larian did a good job. One noted, “As a DM in TTRPGs, I think the level cap is perfect. Going past level 12 in D&D gives you powers that would break the game.”

Of course, some players have used mods to go beyond the level cap for fun, but this is for those who want to experiment.
