According to a recent ranking published by Tom’s Guide, two of the four iPhone 16 models have secured spots among the top performers for battery life in smartphones. The performance of a third model remains uncertain.
To qualify for this list, a smartphone must sustain over 14 hours of internet browsing on a 5G connection while set at a brightness of 150 nits. In total, 15 smartphones are recognized for meeting this criterion.
The iPhone 16 Pro Max distinguished itself by taking the 3rd position, achieving an impressive battery life of 18 hours and 6 minutes. Following closely, the iPhone 16 Plus placed 8th with a battery duration of 16 hours and 29 minutes. Here’s the complete list:
- Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro: 18:48
- OnePlus 12R: 18:42
- iPhone 16 Pro Max: 18:06
- Asus Zenfone 11 Ultra: 17:52
- OnePlus 12: 17:41
- Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: 16:45
- Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus: 16:32
- iPhone 16 Plus: 16:29
- Motorola Edge Plus (2023): 15:47
- Moto G Stylus 5G (2024): 15:01
- Nothing Phone 2: 15:00
- Google Pixel 9 Pro XL: 14:37 (tie)
- Motorola Razr (2024): 14:37 (tie)
- Moto G 5G (2024): 14:36
- Nothing Phone 2a: 14:21
While the battery life of the base iPhone 16 was noted as underwhelming at 12 hours and 43 minutes, it still shows improvement over the previous model’s 11 hours and 5 minutes.
The absence of the iPhone 16 Pro on the list is puzzling, especially since the rankings indicate that it exceeded the 14-hour mark and tests confirm this as well.
The iPhone 16 Pro, often deemed the “middle child” of this year’s lineup, managed a commendable 14 hours and 7 minutes on a single charge. Although it narrowly missed the threshold for the best battery life rankings, this result represents a significant enhancement over the iPhone 15 Pro’s 10 hours and 53 minutes.
