Recent certification from the China Quality Certification Centre indicates that every model in the iPhone 16 lineup will have the capability for wired fast charging at rates of up to 45 watts via the USB-C port.
As highlighted by ShrimpApplePro on X, this certification confirms that the iPhone 16 models can operate at voltages between 5 to 15 volts with a current of 3 amps, summing up to 45 watts of charging power. This represents over a 50% increase in speed compared to the iPhone 15 series, which topped out at 27-29 watts but never reached the 30-watt mark.
Earlier speculations suggested that the iPhone 16 devices might offer faster charging options, though Apple has not officially commented on the wired charging capabilities of these new devices. The company did state that MagSafe can deliver up to 25 watts when used with the appropriate power adapter, but there has been no mention of improvements in wired charging speeds.
This lack of detailed commentary from Apple regarding wired charging isn’t unusual. For several years, iPhones have had the ability to charge above 25 watts, approaching 30 watts, yet Apple has only formally acknowledged the use of a 20-watt USB-C power adapter for fast charging.
On Monday, Apple announced the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro, with preorders opening on Friday and deliveries set to start on September 20th. The new models introduce features such as a Camera Caption button and larger displays for the Pro versions. Apple also touts these phones as their first devices designed for Apple Intelligence.
