AT&T’s latest promotion allows both new and current customers to acquire the iPhone 16 Pro at no cost, provided they have an eligible trade-in.
As often happens with these enticing deals, however, the initial offer can be misleading, with several important conditions attached.
AT&T presents three avenues to receive a “free” iPhone 16:
- Eligible new and existing customers can get the standard iPhone 16 at no cost or enjoy up to $830 off the iPhone 16 Plus.
- Customers can secure the iPhone 16 Pro at no charge or receive up to $1000 off the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
- Additionally, new AT&T Fiber subscribers can obtain the iPhone 16 Pro Max at no charge.
However, the specifics require substantial elaboration.
When considering the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro offerings, both are restricted to the 128GB versions, which may not be sufficient for many users.
All options necessitate the trade-in of a current phone and the acceptance of an installment payment plan. Although monthly credits can offset the payments, these credits are contingent upon maintaining an AT&T unlimited plan, which starts at a minimum of $75.99 per month.
The installment plan extends over three years, resulting in a total expenditure of $2,735.64. Should you decide to terminate your service prior to the completion of this term, the outstanding balance for the iPhone will need to be settled immediately.
The Pro Max offer provides an additional $200 credit, but to receive this, customers must also subscribe to AT&T Fiber. This credit is distributed as monthly reductions of $5.56, necessitating that the fiber subscription remains in effect for a full three years.
