YouTube Launches QR Codes for All Channels

YouTube has announced that QR codes will now be available across all channels, following a successful test phase with select users.

This new feature is designed to make it easier for creators to promote their channels and attract new followers by providing a simple way for audiences to connect to their content.

To access the QR code, users can go to the ‘You’ tab in the YouTube app, tap ‘Share Channel’ under their handle, and select ‘QR code’ from the menu. The code can be saved to the camera roll or displayed for others to scan, offering a quick way for people to find and follow channels.

While the introduction of QR codes is intended to boost channel visibility, their effectiveness remains uncertain. QR codes have not gained widespread use outside of specific scenarios like supermarket checkouts, and their popularity tends to ebb and flow.

Interestingly, YouTube’s move aligns with Instagram’s recent test of profile cards featuring QR codes, indicating a renewed interest in this technology. Whether this marks the beginning of a lasting trend or just another brief resurgence remains to be seen.
