Sony has unveiled an exclusive first look at the initial eight minutes of Kraven the Hunter, an exhilarating superhero film inspired by the Marvel Comics character.
The sneak peek showcases Aaron Taylor-Johnson portraying Sergei Kravinoff, better known as Kraven, a formidable big-game hunter endowed with superhuman abilities including strength, agility, and speed. In the opening scene, Kraven, disguised as a Russian criminal, boards a bus bound for prison. His goal is to confront Seymon Chorney, the notorious leader of the Kirov gang, which is infamous for supplying weapons to killers across the globe. Chorney and his crew are quickly made aware of the fact that Kraven is not just a legend, as he swiftly dispatches the gang members while plotting his escape.
Alongside Taylor-Johnson, Kraven the Hunter features Ariana DeBose as Calypso Ezili, Fred Hechinger as Dmitri Smerdyakov/Chameleon, Alessandro Nivola as Aleksei Sytsevich/Rhino, Christopher Abbott as the Foreigner, and Russell Crowe as Nikolai Kravinoff.
Directed by J.C. Chandor, Kraven the Hunter is written by Richard Wenk, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway. This film marks the sixth entry in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) and follows Madame Web and Venom: The Last Dance as the third release in 2024. Despite the overall negative reception of previous SSU films, particularly since only the Venom series has managed to turn a profit, Chandor urges audiences to support Kraven and give it a fair chance.
Chandor commented about the mixed results of prior SSU films, stating, “People must give us a chance and come out to support this film, attempting to overlook some of the prior disappointments. We ask that you give our movie a fair shot.”
Early projections estimate Kraven could earn between $20 and $25 million in its domestic opening.
Kraven the Hunter is set to hit theaters on December 13.
