The final trailer for Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* emphasizes themes of redemption.
The Thunderbolts team, featuring Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and Wyatt Russell as John Walker, is comprised of individuals with questionable pasts. In the absence of the Avengers, the world is in dire need of new heroes, especially with the looming threat posed by the Void (Lewis Pullman), which could plunge humanity into darkness.
Bucky attempts to motivate the group, urging them to either accept their regrets or take action. “Being the hero, there is no higher calling,” Red Guardian tells Yelena, prompting her to reconsider her stance and ultimately join the fight.
“We can’t stop him alone. No one can,” Yelena states regarding their battle against the Void. “But we can find a way, together.”
The public’s skepticism toward the Thunderbolts fuels their underdog spirit. Pugh describes this unique perspective in Thunderbolts* as creating a “badass indie, A24-style assassin film featuring Marvel superheroes.”

The cast also includes Geraldine Viswanathan, Chris Bauer, Wendell Pierce, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Jake Schreier, recognized for his work on Netflix’s Beef, directs Thunderbolts*. The screenplay was crafted by Eric Pearson and Joanna Calo, with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige producing, alongside executive producers Louis D’Esposito, Brian Chapek, and Jason Tamez.
Thunderbolts* marks the concluding movie of Phase Five in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while The Fantastic Four: First Steps will launch Phase Six in July. Several members of the Thunderbolts are set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, including Pugh, Stan, Harbour, John-Kamen, Russell, and Pullman.
Marvel Studios plans to release Thunderbolts* in theaters on May 2.
