Tom Hiddleston stars as Charles “Chuck” Krantz in the anticipated release of The Life of Chuck, a sci-fi drama directed by Mike Flanagan, inspired by Stephen King’s 2020 novella.
The film’s trailer features a poignant quote from Mark Hamill’s character, Albie Krantz: “If you have heart, you have hope.” The Life of Chuck tells the remarkable journey of Chuck Krantz, an everyday man with an extraordinary narrative. The story unfolds in three acts, presented in reverse chronological order, beginning with his adulthood and moving back to his childhood. Hiddleston portrays the adult Chuck, while younger versions of the character are played by Jacob Tremblay, Benjamin Pajak, and Cody Flanagan.
Chuck’s life is filled with experiences that encompass "the wonder of love, the heartbreak of loss, and the complexities we all harbor."
Alongside Hiddleston, the film features Mia Sara and Mark Hamill as Chuck’s grandparents, Sarah and Albie Krantz. The cast also includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Annalise Basso, Matthew Lillard, Carl Lumbly, Heather Langenkamp, Samantha Sloyan, Harvey Guillén, and Kate Siegel.
Flanagan is deeply involved in the project, taking on the roles of writer, producer, editor, and director. His partner at Intrepid Pictures, Trevor Macy, also serves as a producer. The Life of Chuck originated as part of King’s 2020 collection, If It Bleeds.
Having previously adapted several of King’s works, such as Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep, Flanagan is also working on television adaptations of The Dark Tower and Carrie for Amazon MGM Studios, with Carrie recently greenlit for production.
The film made its debut at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival in early September, where it earned the prestigious People’s Choice Award. Shortly after, Neon acquired the North American distribution rights.
The Life of Chuck is set to hit select theaters on June 6, followed by a nationwide rollout on June 13.
