After a two-year break, one of the top video game adaptations is making a comeback this spring.
HBO has announced that The Last of Us season 2 will premiere at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Sunday, April 13. The debut episode will air on HBO and will also be available for streaming on Max. This season will feature a total of seven episodes.
Along with the premiere date, HBO has shared three new character posters showcasing Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, and Kaitlyn Dever as Abby.
Season 2 is set five years after the events of the first season. According to HBO, “Joel and Ellie find themselves at odds with each other amid a world that is even more dangerous and unpredictable than before.”

By the conclusion of season 1, Joel successfully rescues Ellie from the Fireflies, who intended to perform a fatal procedure on her in an attempt to develop a cure for the Cordyceps virus. Instead of revealing the truth, Joel deceives Ellie, telling her the Fireflies were unable to create a cure. The first season wraps up with Joel and Ellie returning to the Jackson community.
This season will see the return of Gabriel Luna as Tommy and Rutina Wesley as Maria. Joining the cast are new characters portrayed by Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac, with guest appearances by Catherine O’Hara.
Inspired by Naughty Dog’s acclaimed video game franchise, The Last of Us is penned and executive produced by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. The show’s first season received widespread acclaim, securing eight Emmys out of 24 nominations.
