The iconic slasher known from the ’90s is set to make a comeback in 2025 with I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Sony has unveiled the first trailer for this sequel reboot of the 1997 classic. The premise mirrors that of the original, focusing on a group of five friends who find themselves embroiled in a deadly accident they desperately attempt to conceal. They agree to keep silent about the tragic incident, but one year later, someone reveals they know the truth and is out for revenge in an unforgiving way.
With a killer wielding a hook on the prowl, the friends seek guidance from two survivors of the infamous Southport Massacre of 1997. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprise their original roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson, the lucky teens who escaped the clutches of the Fisherman killer.
“You need to deal with this,” Bronson tells the authorities during a town meeting. “This isn’t the first time there’s been violence like this in Southport.”
Julie poses a haunting question to one of their group: What did you do last summer?

The cast of I Know What You Did Last Summer includes Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell, Gabbriette Bechtel, Austin Nichols, Lola Tung, and Nicholas Alexander Chavez.
Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the film is based on a screenplay co-written by her, Leah McKendrick, and Sam Lansky. Robinson is known for her previous work on Netflix’s Do Revenge and co-writing Thor: Love and Thunder. Neal H. Moritz, who produced the original film, returns to produce this new installment.
Kevin Williamson, fresh off the success of the 1996 hit Scream, wrote the screenplay for the original I Know What You Did Last Summer, which was adapted from Lois Duncan’s 1973 novel. The film featured Hewitt, Prinze, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe, earning over $125 million against a budget of $17 million.
The franchise expanded with a sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, released in 1998, and a direct-to-video installment, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, in 2006.
Mark your calendars: I Know What You Did Last Summer is scheduled for theatrical release on July 18.
