Tesla has just launched its most budget-friendly variant of the Cybertruck in the United States. Priced at $69,990, this new “Long Range” rear-wheel drive (RWD) model can drop to $62,490 after applying the federal tax credit, making it an intriguing choice for many buyers, albeit with some unique traits.
Interestingly, despite being the least expensive option, this trim offers the highest mileage per charge, boasting an impressive range of 350 miles. In comparison, the more expensive All-Wheel Drive version provides a range of 325 miles, while the top-tier $99,990 Cyberbeast model can only achieve 301 miles.
The significant price difference, combined with the superior range, is likely to lure many potential buyers toward the Long Range variant. This more economical option stands out, particularly since Tesla quietly eliminated its prior entry-level model priced at $60,990 from the lineup last year.
However, it’s essential to keep in mind that the attractive price tag comes with some trade-offs. For one, the powered tonneau cover is no longer included; instead, a soft tonneau cover is available for an additional $750, although it adds a slight bonus of 12 extra miles in range.
Unlike the other models—which feature dual and triple-motor configurations—this Long Range version is single-motor. Consequently, its acceleration is more leisurely at 6.2 seconds, and the towing capacity has been reduced to 7,500 pounds, down from the 11,000 pounds seen in the more robust configurations.
Tesla has also made several reductions that may make potential buyers rethink their choice. The Long Range model lacks front ventilated seats, the specialized 9.4-inch display for rear passengers, and the active noise cancellation feature found in the audio system.
Additionally, the adaptive air suspension has been removed from this new version, as have the vault bed and ride height adjustments. It appears that Tesla is positioning this model as an incentive to upsell buyers to the higher-priced options.
