Samsung is integrating artificial intelligence across a variety of its products, including home appliances. Earlier, we shared updates about AI technology in Samsung washing machines and the Bespoke AI Jet Ultra. Now, the tech giant is leveraging AI to keep an eye on your appliances and forewarn if they might fail.
This new feature, known as AI Pre-Care Notification, is part of the AI Subscription Club that Samsung introduced in 2024. The system employs AI to continuously evaluate the condition and usage of your appliances, monitoring factors like consumables, to identify potential issues before they escalate.
For instance, according to an example highlighted by Samsung, if your air conditioner’s refrigerant levels drop below the expected range or if a refrigerator’s temperature is atypically low, the AI will offer a diagnosis and insights into what might be occurring. To use this service, appliances need to be connected to the SmartThings platform, after which a customer service representative will reach out to you via phone.
Additionally, this system allows you to schedule on-site repairs to address problems proactively, thus preventing significant breakdowns. The AI Pre-Care Notification is compatible with various appliances such as air conditioners, air dressers, dishwashers, dryers, induction cooktops, kimchi refrigerators, microwaves/ovens, refrigerators, robot vacuum cleaners, and washing machines.
This innovative use of AI could be beneficial to avoid appliance failures that might lead to more extensive and costly damage, emphasizing the importance of preventative maintenance. Samsung underscores that early diagnosis allows you to resolve air conditioning issues before the busy summer season, when demand for service technicians often rises.
However, there’s a caveat: access to this feature is limited to members of the AI Subscription Club, which is currently available only in South Korea. The AI Subscription Club allows users to rent AI-enabled appliances that come with maintenance included, making this new Pre-Care Notification feature a convenient addition aimed at enhancing user experience.
Interestingly, the AI Subscription Club also offers the opportunity to rent Ballie, Samsung’s home robot, which is set for a wider rollout in late 2025. This raises the possibility that Samsung may broaden the offerings of its AI Subscription Club in the near future.
