Exciting News: A Sequel to Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood Is Happening!
Earlier this month, the buzz of a sequel to Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood at Netflix made waves in the entertainment world, and thankfully, it’s no prank. Industry sources have confirmed that the sequel will be directed by David Fincher, featuring a script crafted by Quentin Tarantino. Brad Pitt is set to return to his acclaimed role as Cliff Booth.
With Cliff back in the spotlight, fans are naturally curious about the fate of Rick Dalton. Will Leonardo DiCaprio reprise his role? Reports indicate that DiCaprio has been in discussions with Netflix, although it seems his return will be more akin to a cameo than a full-fledged part.
DiCaprio, known for his hefty paychecks, usually commands between $20 to $30 million per film. His recent project, Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, has reportedly netted him $20 million. However, for the OUATIH sequel, his compensation for a brief appearance won’t reach his standard fee but is still expected to be in the seven-figure range.
In a recent episode of The Hot Mic, industry insider Jeff Sneider disclosed that DiCaprio is delaying his decision on the offer from Netflix, reportedly seeking a higher payday, which has caused frustration among Netflix executives, Fincher, and Pitt. According to Sneider, he was offered $3 million for just one day of filming.
With filming anticipated to kick off by late summer, DiCaprio will need to make a decision soon, especially as he is eyeing future projects.
According to Sean Fennessey from The Ringer, the sequel will be set in 1977 and will be framed more as The Further Adventures of Cliff Booth rather than a traditional sequel.
The original Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, written and directed by Tarantino, explores the dynamic between an aging actor, Rick Dalton, and his stunt double, Cliff Booth, as they navigate Hollywood’s evolution. The film also weaves in the story of Rick’s neighbor, Sharon Tate (played by Margot Robbie), and the ramifications of the Manson family.
The film earned over $392 million globally and received ten Academy Award nominations, taking home accolades for Best Supporting Actor (Pitt) and Best Production Design.
As the excitement builds for this sequel, it remains to be seen how DiCaprio will fit into the project and what surprises lie ahead for fans of this iconic film.
