The Retroid Pocket Mini generated considerable excitement prior to its release, but recent complaints about screen issues have left many users frustrated. In some instances, players find themselves unable to enjoy their favorite games at all. To address this, Retroid is extending the return period from March 8 to March 14; however, there’s a significant limitation: this offer is only available to the first 200 international customers. After this window, returns will no longer be accepted.
Retroid delivered this update through their Discord channel. A number of users have reported problems with certain filters that interfere with scanlines, creating an unsatisfactory viewing experience. More technically, the device outputs at a lower resolution than the advertised 960p, resulting in distortion as it stretches to fit the screen.
While numerous users either don’t notice or are indifferent to these problems, those who pursue a faithful retro gaming experience have voiced their concerns. Players who don’t utilize CRT or gridline filters are generally less affected, while those trying to achieve a specific aesthetic through filters find the results disappointing.

In their announcement, Retroid requested that only those genuinely affected by the screen issues take advantage of the return policy, citing the costs associated with processing returns. Additionally, to compensate all Retroid Pocket Mini users, the company will provide a $10 stackable coupon applicable towards the upcoming Retroid Flip2 and Retroid Classic.
The news has sparked a significant backlash, with many customers expressing outrage that a product with defective screen hardware was shipped, while others feel that the $10 compensation is a slap in the face to loyal customers.
Retroid is known in the gaming community as a manufacturer of handheld consoles primarily aimed at retro gaming enthusiasts.
