Red Dead Redemption, the iconic open-world RPG that started the beloved Western series, is finally making its debut on PC after more than 14 years since its initial release.

Rockstar Games revealed that both Red Dead Redemption and its standalone zombie expansion Undead Nightmare will be available on platforms such as Steam, Epic Games Store, and the Rockstar Store starting October 29, bundled together. Players will also receive additional content from the Game of the Year edition, though specifics have yet to be disclosed. This release is a collaboration between Rockstar and Double Eleven, known for their expertise in porting and remastering games.

Though pre-orders are not yet available, fans can add the game to their wish list on Steam if that’s their preferred choice. As of now, the Epic Games Store listing is not active.

In line with modern gaming standards, Rockstar has incorporated numerous enhancements for the PC version. Gamers can expect a native 4K resolution with refresh rates up to 144hz, support for ultrawide and super ultrawide monitors, compatibility with Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR, DLSS frame generation, HDR10, as well as full support for mouse and keyboard controls. Additionally, players will have the option to fine-tune draw distance and shadow quality, among other graphic settings.

This update brings the game up to the visual standards of its prequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, which has been available on PC since 2019. For a sneak peek at the upcoming release, check out the trailer below.

Similar to Red Dead Redemption 2, the game won’t require top-tier hardware to run smoothly. The current Steam page suggests that an Intel Core i5-8500 or AMD Ryzen 5 3500X, 8 GB of RAM, and either an Nvidia RTX 2070 or AMD RX 5700 XT will suffice. Additionally, it only requires 12 GB of available storage space.

While it’s great to see this game accessible on all PC platforms at launch, be aware that a Rockstar Games account will be necessary to play, as noted on the Steam page.

Although Red Dead Redemption has been playable on modern consoles through backward compatibility on Xbox and as part of a 2023 release for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, the title’s absence from PC has been notable. The Switch and PS4 versions lacked any visual improvements and were capped at 30 frames per second, although Sony later introduced a 60 fps option for PlayStation 5.
