One notable drawback of the highly praised OnePlus Watch 3 is its limited availability in just one case size. However, recent developments surrounding an Oppo smartwatch launch in China suggest that this might soon change. The Oppo Watch X2 Mini is set to officially debut on April 10 and is already available for pre-order in China. This model could serve as a blueprint for a potential OnePlus Watch 3 Mini.
To provide some context, in 2021, Oppo and OnePlus established a strategic partnership that allows them to share resources in research, development, software, and camera technology. While the brands create distinct products, there’s a lot of similarity between them. The OnePlus Watch 3 has an Oppo counterpart, the Oppo Watch X2, and both devices share a striking resemblance.

The Oppo Watch X2 Mini features a compact design and a refined aesthetic. While it’s heavily advertised in a stunning 18K gold finish, it will also be offered in silver and black. Similar design elements are retained from the larger Watch X2, such as the fluted crown at the 2 o’clock position, although it’s been downsized to better fit the overall casing. Additionally, there’s a single action button located at 4 o’clock.
The asymmetrical design that gives the OnePlus Watch 3 its unique look has been streamlined for the Mini version. The integrated band has been replaced with a more conventional style, providing a less sporty appearance. Although full specifications haven’t been disclosed, it is anticipated that the Mini will borrow technology from the Watch X2 and OnePlus Watch 4, including a sophisticated dual-processor system that enhances efficiency based on the tasks being executed. This innovation should contribute to impressively long battery life.
It remains uncertain whether OnePlus will rebrand the Oppo Watch X2 Mini for a global launch. However, announcements regarding a smaller edition of the OnePlus Watch 3 indicate that the issue of having just one case size could be resolved by 2025. Introducing a second size would give OnePlus a competitive edge against rivals like Samsung, which offers its Galaxy Watch 7 in both 40mm and 44mm sizes, and Apple, which has 42mm and 46mm versions of the Apple Watch Series 10. Even Google has adjusted its approach, recently releasing a larger Pixel Watch 3.
Oppo has officially launched the Oppo Watch X2 Mini in China and has even partnered with world champion table tennis player Sun Yingsha for promotional activities.
