OnePlus Open 2 Release Date Might Have Leaked

The OnePlus Open, highly praised as one of the top folding smartphones of the previous year, appears to be on the verge of receiving a successor. Insider information from a leaker known as Rodent950 suggests that the OnePlus Open 2 is anticipated to debut in the first quarter of 2025.

According to the leaker, this new device will go by the name Oppo Find N5 in China and will be marketed as the OnePlus Open 2 in other regions. It’s worth mentioning that the original OnePlus Open was released in China under the name Oppo Find N3.

As reported by 91Mobile, the Oppo Find N5/OnePlus Open 2 could potentially be the world’s first foldable smartphone to feature the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. This device might include a circular camera design, a thickness of approximately 9mm, and could sport a 2K primary display akin to its predecessor.

Rumors indicate that the new phone will feature a 50MP Sony primary camera, a periscope telephoto lens, and an undisclosed third lens. For comparison, the current OnePlus Open is equipped with a 48MP primary camera, a 64MP telephoto lens, and a 48MP ultrawide lens.

The initial leaks regarding the OnePlus Open 2 began circulating last spring. It’s encouraging to see some confirmation that earlier speculations may hold true.

In our review of the OnePlus Open, we highlighted issues with the device’s hinge not being sturdy enough and the excessive size of the camera bump. We also questioned the performance of the macro and 120X Super Res cameras. It is hoped that the OnePlus Open 2 will address these concerns effectively.

This is an energetic period for Oppo and OnePlus, as the much-anticipated OnePlus 13 is expected to launch soon. Additionally, rumors suggest an early global launch for the OnePlus 12, which might be introduced even sooner in China, potentially making it the first smartphone to utilize the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset.

When the OnePlus Open 2 is finally unveiled, it will compete against formidable models like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the newly available Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
