Just a few weeks after Shenzhen established a world record for the highest number of drones in a show, the city has once again set a new benchmark.
At the beginning of September, an event showcased a staggering 7,598 drones illuminating the evening sky, captivating spectators with a series of stunning visuals and animations, surpassing the previous record by a significant margin.
Recently, another spectacular display over Shenzhen Bay Park utilized a total of 10,197 drones, achieving two Guinness World Records—one for the most multirotors/drones flown at once from a single computer outdoors, and another for the largest aerial image created by multirotors/drones.
Videos shared on social media highlighted some of the spectacular imagery crafted by the drones, all coordinated through software operated from a laptop on the ground.
This latest drone show was part of the events leading up to China’s National Day on October 1.

The evolution of drone technology and its controlling software has opened doors for more companies to offer their services for such public displays.
Operating without smoke or toxic emissions, drones are increasingly viewed by event planners as a more eco-friendly and cost-effective alternative to traditional fireworks. Moreover, drones generate less noise, making the shows more enjoyable for audiences and less disturbing for surrounding communities and local wildlife.
Of course, the risk of a malfunctioning drone plummeting from the sky remains. However, if the performance takes place at a safe distance from the crowd, such incidents are unlikely to cause harm.
