Speculation has been swirling regarding Nvidia’s upcoming RTX 50-series GPUs, and the company recently offered a significant hint about their potential launch timeline. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang will deliver a keynote address at CES 2025 on January 6. This event might be our first look at the new generation of Nvidia graphics cards.
Even though Nvidia consistently attends this annual tech show, it’s been five years since Huang last took the stage. It’s expected that he will emphasize artificial intelligence, which has significantly contributed to Nvidia’s rise as one of the richest firms globally. However, we can also anticipate news about the RTX 50-series GPUs, as Nvidia often utilizes CES to unveil new graphics hardware.
Last year saw the introduction of Nvidia’s RTX 40 Super series, and in 2023, we welcomed the RTX 4070 Ti. While it is uncommon for Nvidia to debut an entirely new series at CES, it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility. The launch of the RTX 50-series cards may have experienced delays due to reported design issues with Nvidia’s Blackwell architecture.
Up until now, there has been uncertainty about whether Nvidia would roll out its RTX 50-series this year or wait until early 2025. However, new reports indicate that the company is aiming for an early 2025 release, particularly for the RTX 5090, with some rumors hinting at a launch during CES 2025. News of Nvidia’s keynote adds some weight to these speculations. Although exact release dates remain uncertain, it appears that the RTX 5090 may be the first to hit the market, followed by the RTX 5080 at a later time.
The launch date may still be under wraps, but the RTX 5090 is not expected to cater to those seeking low power consumption. Credible sources suggest this flagship GPU will demand over 600 watts of power and will be equipped with 32GB of next-generation GDDR7 memory. Interestingly, the card may utilize a dual-slot cooler design, which could make it more compact than the RTX 4090 while nonetheless requiring significantly more power.
