Nvidia has just launched a significant update for its app. For those who may not know, Nvidia has been consolidating multiple features and settings from GeForce Experience, the Nvidia Control Panel, and other applications like FrameView and ICAT into one comprehensive application, referred to as the Nvidia app. This integration aims to simplify graphic card management. Most excitingly, this latest version introduces a long-awaited feature: driver rollback.

Keeping your GPU drivers updated is advisable since new releases often include performance enhancements and optimizations tailored for the latest games. However, these updates can sometimes lead to unforeseen problems. It’s not uncommon for certain drivers to cause unexpected bugs or performance drops on some systems. For example, there are reports from users on Steam who experienced crashes in Ghost of Tsushima and Farming Simulator 22 following driver updates. Though these glitches are rarely widespread, they can nevertheless impact individual gamers. With driver rollback capabilities now available in the Nvidia app, addressing these issues becomes much simpler.

If you find yourself facing performance problems, you can now conveniently revert to a previous driver version directly within the Nvidia app. Previously, this process was tedious, requiring you to manually uninstall the old driver before installing the new one, or relying on third-party tools like Display Driver Uninstaller, which could sometimes still leave conflicts behind. With the integrated driver rollback feature, users can avoid a lot of those hassles, although it’s crucial to note that you can only roll back to drivers installed through the Nvidia app itself. If you manually installed a driver, you’ll still need to handle its removal yourself.

In addition to driver rollback, the latest update brings other notable features. Nvidia has relocated the G-Sync controls from the Nvidia Control Panel into the newly updated app, enabling users to activate G-Sync and tweak display settings more conveniently. The update also offers support for RTX HDR across multiple monitors, allowing for enhanced HDR-like experiences in games lacking native support.

Nvidia has also made several quality-of-life enhancements. Users can now customize the color and structure of their system stats overlay, which the company refers to as the Heads Up Display. Additionally, you now have the ability to sort and filter your game library, along with notifications indicating if Digital Rights Management (DRM) software might interfere with gameplay recording through ShadowPlay.

The Nvidia app is currently in beta but is publicly available for download. It coexists with GeForce Experience and the Nvidia Control Panel, with plans for Nvidia to fully migrate features from both of these applications into the app by year’s end.
