Many users start their mornings by opening TikTok to catch up on the latest popular clips and track the performance of their own videos. It’s also a good opportunity to review your account’s security settings, as TikTok has launched a new feature called Security Checkup.
Announced in a press release earlier this week, this new tool aims to help users strengthen their accounts against potential hacking attempts. To use the Security Checkup, go to Settings and privacy then click on Security and permissions in your TikTok profile, where you’ll find a list of steps to enhance your account’s security.
Among these steps are linking both your email and phone number for backup login options if you lose access, activating two-step verification for logins from new devices, removing any unknown or unused devices, and utilizing passkeys for access instead of just passwords, such as Face ID or a PIN. TikTok already proactively scans for unusual activity on your account, and any flagged issues will appear in the Security and permissions hub for your attention.

TikTok’s Security Checkup is inspired by a similar security feature from Google, sharing a comparable layout but with different settings, including overseeing third-party connections and stored passwords.
This introduction comes shortly after TikTok unveiled a new feature designed to help teenagers manage their late-night usage, which plays calming music if they open the app after 10 p.m. Additionally, the app’s future in the United States remains uncertain, as President Trump recently extended the deadline for a potential ban by 75 days, allowing ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, more time to negotiate a sale to an American firm. The new deadline for this decision is April 5.
