Minecraft introduced RTX support approximately five years ago, and an exciting new update that fully utilizes this feature is on the way. The Vibrant Visuals update hasn’t been released yet, but it is expected to arrive soon for both the Java and Bedrock editions, likely starting with Bedrock.
This forthcoming update will bring significant changes to lighting mechanics within the game. Players can expect to see some enemies, like Spiders and Endermen, having glowing eyes, along with light streaming through the windows of their structures. Water will exhibit reflective qualities, with light penetrating its surface to create a more mysterious, ethereal ambiance beneath the waves.
Another major enhancement will be the introduction of realistic shadows. These new shadows will be pixelated and designed to align with existing blocks, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the game world.

The update is backward compatible with all existing worlds. Players simply need to enable it in the settings. If there’s a favored world you enjoy (and let’s face it, who doesn’t have one?), just log in, select the desired time of day, and activate Vibrant Visuals to appreciate how enhanced lighting transforms your builds. This feature runs locally, allowing you to use it on multiplayer servers even if your friends’ devices can’t handle it—while they may not see the improvements, you definitely will.
Mojang has assured fans that despite these upgrades, the game retains its original Minecraft essence. The gameplay experience remains unchanged, maintaining the familiar comfort players love. While Vibrant Visuals elevates the game visually, it does not redefine it. The developers note that there is a wealth of fan-made mods available for those looking to further enhance graphics beyond what this update provides.
While no definite release date is available, GameSpot has indicated that the update is expected to launch “very, very soon.”
