M4 Mac Launch Is Coming But Not As You Expect

The last several months have been filled with speculation and excitement surrounding the forthcoming M4 Macs, and the anticipated launch date of November 1 is just around the corner. Despite the absence of an official event announcement, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg remains convinced that the launch is “imminent,” with an announcement expected on October 30.

He points out that Apple Stores are experiencing significant shortages of iMac, Mac mini, MacBook Pro, Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad inventory—a common occurrence when updates are nearing release.

While much of the recent buzz has centered on the Mac lineup, there are also suggestions of new peripherals in the pipeline. The updates for the Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Keyboard are expected to primarily emphasize a transition to USB-C connections. There’s hope that Apple might also reposition the port on the Magic Mouse to alleviate the mocking it has faced for the past decade.

As for the timing of this launch, Gurman has stated on X (formerly Twitter) that a media event is scheduled for Los Angeles on October 30. His post indicates that there won’t be a keynote presentation, but rather product videos and press materials.

Apple is inviting media/creators at different appointment times throughout the day on 10/30 in LA — it appears they are not holding a group event to watch a keynote video. Thus, the launch will be an online-only affair featuring videos and press releases. https://t.co/sVk6GjrVeC

This update diminishes the hope for a traditional launch event, which is not entirely surprising. Considering that the M4 chip has already been revealed and is included in the latest iPad Pro, perhaps a grand event isn’t strictly necessary. However, with the Mac mini set for its first design update in over ten years, it would seem logical for Apple to showcase that in greater depth. Furthermore, if industry sources are accurate, there are six product announcements on the horizon, which would certainly warrant an event.

Regardless, clarity will arrive next Wednesday, and we’ll ensure to keep you updated on the latest developments.
