Gamers have grown accustomed to lengthy waits for anticipated video games, with titles like Elder Scrolls 6 and Perfect Dark announced more than five years ago. However, there’s one PS5 title that has been in development for over a decade and is finally set for release this year. Lost Soul Aside is a labor of love from a solo developer, promising to be one of the most visually appealing action games of the year. Much has changed since its introduction, leading some to believe the game might have been scrapped. In this article, we’ll clear up any confusion and provide you with everything you need to know about Lost Soul Aside.
Release Date

After a decade-long development, Lost Soul Aside now has a confirmed launch date set for May 30, 2025.
Platforms

Lost Soul Aside will be available on PS5 and PC. Since it is published by PlayStation, it won’t be offered on Xbox Series X.
Trailers
The initial trailer for Lost Soul Aside, released eight years ago, offers an intriguing glimpse into the game, although it doesn’t fully represent the current iteration we’ll be playing in May. It’s fascinating to see the evolution that’s taken place over the years.
Another major trailer came in 2021, showcasing 18 minutes of gameplay that is much more indicative of the game's current design, providing the most comprehensive look at its action to date.
Most recently, during February's State of Play event, the preorder trailer confirmed the official release date for Lost Soul Aside.
The narrative follows Kazer, who embarks on a journey of redemption after forming a unique connection with a race called Arena, granting him the ability to communicate with them, summon weapons, and execute the actions demonstrated in gameplay. While the world is embroiled in conflict, that’s the extent of the plot revealed thus far.
Gameplay

Drawing inspiration from character action games, Lost Soul Aside promises fluid and fast-paced gameplay with a stylish flair. The developer cites Final Fantasy XV as an influence, although the game seems to resemble Final Fantasy XVI more closely now, particularly in the protagonist's design, which resembles Noctis.
Kazer wields various weapons during combat, seamlessly switching between them to execute diverse combos. Each weapon offers unique functions while allowing for chained attacks. Players can expect dynamic action filled with dodges, aerial juggles, and an impressive visual flair. It’s reminiscent of both FF16 and Devil May Cry 5.
The gameplay primarily centers on grandiose boss battles, although traditional mob combats are also present.
In addition to combat, Arena aids in movement. Players will see Kazer running along walls, calling upon floating platforms, and summoning wings for gliding across different terrains. The game is linear, lacking an open-world design, but promises hidden secrets to discover.
Players will have the opportunity to customize their character's loadouts, potentially mixing weapon types and gear, unlocking new abilities, and much more.
